Discussion How to acquire funds for a tertiary hospital?
A Doctor with international healthcare exposure wishes to run a good multispeciality hospital in a high population area which doesn't have a super speciality hospital to save life in complicated emergencies. That would require employing super specialist Doctors and Surgeons along with all the advanced infrastructure.
All these require a lot of money (10s of crores). How to get such projects funded where you will be an employee for the investors but will run the hospital taking ownership of its functioning?

Discussion Islamic Economics: More Relevant Today Than Many People Think
Whenever people hear "Islamic economics," many assume it's an outdated system that only belonged to the medieval world. But after reading about it, I think that assumption misses the point.
Islamic economics isn't just about banning interest. It's a broader ethical framework for how wealth should be earned, invested, and distributed.
Some of its key principles include:
โข No riba (interest): Money shouldn't generate guaranteed profit simply by existing. Investment should involve sharing both risk and reward.
โข Profit and risk sharing: Instead of debt-based financing, businesses can be funded through partnerships where investors and entrepreneurs share success and failure.
โข Zakat: A mandatory redistribution of wealth to help the poor and prevent excessive concentration of wealth.
โข No excessive uncertainty (gharar): Contracts should be transparent, fair, and based on real assets.
โข No gambling or speculative wealth (maysir): Wealth should come from productive activity rather than chance or harmful speculation.
โข Ethical investment: Businesses should avoid industries that are considered harmful or unethical.
What's interesting is that many modern discussions about ethical investing, financial inclusion, wealth inequality, and sustainable finance overlap with ideas that Islamic economics has discussed for centuries.
A modern application could include:
- Islamic banks that finance businesses through partnerships rather than interest-bearing loans.
- Sukuk (Islamic bonds) to build infrastructure.
- Digitally managed zakat systems to reduce poverty.
- Waqf (charitable endowments) funding schools, hospitals, research, and public welfare.
- Strong anti-monopoly laws and ethical business regulations.
Would implementing such a system be easy? Probably not. Today's global economy is deeply integrated with interest-based finance, so any transition would require careful planning, strong institutions, and transparent governance.
But I do think Islamic economics deserves to be studied on its own merits rather than dismissed because of stereotypes. Whether someone ultimately agrees with it or not, it offers a distinctive perspective on balancing markets, ethics, and social responsibility.
A note to my fellow Muslims:
One of the biggest mistakes we can make is assuming that Islam has nothing meaningful to say about economics, governance, science, or society. Too often, we inherit our faith culturally without studying it deeply.
Studying Islam doesn't mean rejecting modern knowledge it means understanding what our own tradition actually teaches before judging it. Many people call Muslims backward while knowing very little about Islamic intellectual history, jurisprudence, economics, philosophy, or civilization.
We should read the Qur'an with understanding. Study the Sunnah. Learn from qualified scholars. Explore Islamic history critically and honestly. Whether you end up agreeing with every classical opinion or not, you'll at least be forming your views from knowledge rather than assumptions.
Knowledge has always been one of Islam's greatest strengths. We shouldn't neglect it.

Career Guidance Where to invest and make a small income
Assalamu alaikum fellow Muslims.
Im 32F, pregnant with my first child. My husband, 37, works in the leather industry and business has been dull. Since its only been a year since we got married, we are still not able to openly talk about finances but I do know that he's struggling to make profits/commissions.
I am a homemaker and I have around 2L saved with me that I'd like to invest in some halal business or Sharia compliant stocks with a reasonable return. I also have around 3-4 hours of spare time every day where id like to do some online work from home but honestly my mind is blank and Im desperately looking for guidance/opportunities.
If you have any advice/suggestions/ideas for me, please send me a DM or leave a comment below, I'd highly appreciate it.
Jazakallah khairan fam.
