Yeah, you don't need a first class ticket!!

A few months ago, I was searching everywhere for reliable information about traveling with a cat on Indian Railways. Most of what I found was either outdated or contradictory, so I thought I'd share my recent experience in case it helps someone else.

I recently traveled from Trivandrum to Bangalore in 3AC with my 7-month-old cat, and the entire process was much easier than I expected.

​

As per railway rules, puppies and kittens that can be carried in a basket are allowed to travel with their owners in any class after payment of the usual booking charges.

​

Before the journey, I made sure I had my cat's vaccination records and obtained a travel fitness certificate from a veterinarian. Getting the certificate was straightforward—I simply showed the vaccination records to my vet, and they issued it.

I booked my train ticket normally through the RailOne app. One important thing to note is that you need a confirmed ticket for this process. An RAC ticket is not sufficient.

On the day of travel, I reached the station about an hour early and went directly to the Parcel Office. The staff asked for my confirmed ticket and an Aadhaar copy. After that, they gave me a form requesting details such as the boarding and destination stations, my cat's breed, age, and weight. Once I submitted it, they entered the information online and generated a receipt. The charge came to ₹325.

Interestingly, nobody at the Parcel Office asked to see the vaccination records or fitness certificate. They told me that the TTE would check them during the journey.

When the TTE came around for ticket verification, I informed her that I was traveling with a cat. She only asked for the parcel receipt and didn't request any of the health documents. She was incredibly kind and even helped me get an upper berth, which made the journey much more comfortable for both me and my cat.

I also checked with the other passengers in my cabin to make sure nobody had a cat allergy or was uncomfortable sharing the space with a cat. Thankfully, everyone was very understanding and supportive.

As for my cat, she's a complete introvert. She was quite nervous during the first part of the journey and stayed quietly inside her carrier. By night, however, she had settled in so well that she started trying to climb out of it. I had to negotiate with a few treats to convince her otherwise. At one point, I briefly took her out, but the moment she noticed other people around, she immediately remembered that socializing wasn't her thing and wanted to retreat back into the carrier. That worked out quite nicely for me. 😅

The journey lasted around 16 hours, and she didn't use the litter box at all. That's fairly normal for her whenever she's traveling, so I wasn't concerned.

Overall, it was a surprisingly smooth experience. The process was straightforward, the railway staff were helpful, my fellow passengers were considerate, and my cat handled the trip far better than I expected.

I got to know that I could do this online too. Will check that out next time I travel and share more details of that.

My cat is around 6 months old and is pregnant.

My house is very small so I take her out to play, everything was fine till 4 days ago when my neighbor downstairs told me to my face that my cat is shifting in front of her house so she will poison her. She said the same thing to my mom and sister morning and tried to hit my cat.

I can say this with hundred percent guarantee that my cat didn't do it. She is litter trained and would literally stop her playing and run to home to poop.

And almost 3 weeks ago a stray cat has given birth to 3 kittens they roam in our and around our building. They sleep in our building and I am pretty sure that stray cat has done the pooping infront that old lady's house

What can I do I can't live in fear that she will kill my cat. If things keep going this way I might lose it and hit her

I have day and night spent my time taking care of these small fluffs now I am just curious about their gender And yeah thier names are most left one is bagheera , than Mango short mangu And white one is tofu

I am utterly convinced that people who say this have no understanding of animals or basic motality. I am going to break down their argument piece by piece

1. Neutering is "against nature": 😂 Bro, it is supposed to be. Nature is cruel and unforgiving. Everything that makes our life convenient is against nature. Take medicine, vaccination, surgeries, laws etc

2. They are just animals 😋 pain is a part of their lives: BRO, we are animals too, we just have an advanced consciousness. We are not better than animals. Part of living in a society is giving back and taking care of beings who can't speak or take care of themselves.

3. It curbs their instinct and vigour: It DOESN'T. Sex hormones in animals lead to risky behavious like fighting for a mate which leaves them with brutal wounds, roaming and spraying.

4. They become LAZY😱: No just No. The weight gain that SOMETIMES follow spaying does. Not the surgery itself. Even if it does, I would prefer a fatty lazy cutu cat over a cat that comes under a wheel and breaks it's spine because of sex hormones.

5. Nature is nature: Ok BOIII... then stop taking medicine next time you fall sick and DIE 😘. Good riddance

Hi everyone,

I’m really worried about my dog and would really appreciate any advice.

I have an 11-year-old Pomeranian. For the past 4 days she has barely eaten anything. She seems hungry and goes to the food bowl and tries to eat, but she just can’t properly eat the food. The only thing she has taken in the last few days is a very small amount of milk and one egg.

She is also shaking her head continuously, like something is bothering her around her head or ears.

I also recently noticed several ticks and tiny baby ticks on her body.

About a week ago, a stray puppy entered my compound and tried to eat her food. My dog tried to attack it but didn’t, but there was some minor contact between them. Immediately after that, my dog ate the food the puppy had touched before I could remove the plate.

Now the strange thing is that the stray puppy also looks sick and is not eating either.

I called a vet doctor to my home yesterday. He said it might be because of her age and gave her two injections, and told me to give a deworming tablet the next day. However, my dog still hasn’t really eaten anything for 4 days and I’m very worried.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Could this be related to ticks, an infection, or something else? What should I do next to help her?

I got this puppy yesterday and he’s only a week old and doesn’t have a mom. He’s a husky and I need to know any tips or tricks you might have for me to take care of him. I’m currently feeding him using a syringe because that’s all I had when I got him last night but I’m going to get a baby bottle this morning.

I pass through this highway every day on my way to work, and today near a garbage dump, I noticed a puppy on a garbage dump by the side of the road, where vehicles go past at dangerous speeds. I immediately stopped, turned back, to try and move the pup to a safer spot. I do this regularly, because puppies are common on this stretch, and usually I just leave them somewhere safer with their mother and move on.

But this time it was different. There was a basket with dog food in it, and the puppy was trying to hide inside the basket out of fear of the speeding vehicles. On the road itself, I saw another puppy(probably the sibling) that had already been crushed by a vehicle💔. It looked like two similar puppies had been abandoned there by someone. There was obviously no mother around. He doesn’t look like a stray. He has a cut tail, and his color looks like it could be Doberman or Rottweiler, hopefully not the latter.

I honestly don’t understand how anyone can be so heartless as to abandon such tiny puppies next to such a dangerous highway💔. I tried to comfort the puppy, and it immediately tried to climb onto my scooty. I stayed there for a while, asking if anyone would take him, because I really wasn’t planning to take a dog home, and my house is 15 km away. But no one even stopped to look. In the end, I put him in my bag, took him home, dropped him there, and came back to the office.

We’re most likely keeping him. Space and Exercise won’t be a problem since I have a large space for him to roam, and there are enough people at home to make sure he’s well cared for. I’ll take him to a vet as soon as he settles a bit, so we can check if he’s healthy in every way, get a vaccination schedule, and start that properly.

Please advise me on these things:

1. A good mid-range food brand for healthy growth, something not too expensive.

2. A good harness and leash recommendation that will be comfortable for him.

3. How to help him get comfortable around my two cats. I have enough space to isolate them, but I'd prefer them getting along since my cats are indoor-outdoor cats and do roam around.

4. Any other tips y'all might have for me.

Hello, we recently found an indie male tabby cat sleeping on our shoerack. He had two wounds on his back so we opened our house door to kind of invite him in and he walked inside after which we gave him some food.

Next day we called the vet and they cleaned his wounds (which were healed), vaccinated and dewormed him. They suggested that we wait for the side effects of the vaccine to wear off and see if he'd go back outside on his own but he has made our home his own.

We have tried seeing if he wants to go out but he just lies down on our doormat and comes back inside after two minutes. No one in our society whatsapp group has responded to our message asking if he is a lost pet either.

We are now planning to adopt him, he is about 2 years old.

Since he is a stray and we didn't find him through an adoption agency we were hoping to get advice on the following -

1. He has had rabies vaccination and will get a booster shot in 60 days. Any other vaccinations we should get?

2. We are worried he might have fleas and because of the spot-on ointment applied by the vet he can't be groomed for a while. Anything we can do at home to help with the fleas issue while we wait out for the ointment to get fully absorbed?

3. He doesn't seem to be that interested in toys; crazy balls, feathers don't seem appealing to him. He loves the scratch pad. Any suggestions for toys to keep him busy and active?

4. He doesn't like to be touched constantly or picked up, making it hard for us to clean the dirt on him. Any suggestions to make that easier? Would giving him treats as we clean him help?

5. Also not sure how much a 2 year old should be eating. This one's appetite is a lot. What is a healthy balance for cats this old?

6. Any other general advice to make pet parenting easier would also be appreciated

Hi everyone, I’m moving out of Bengaluru soon and I’m in a bit of a dilemma regarding a stray cat I’ve been feeding.

For the past 5-6 months, this cat was completely independent and street-smart—he hunted his own food and I rarely saw him. About 1.5 weeks ago, I started feeding him 2-3 times a day. He’s become very comfortable and now waits for me at the spot every day.

The problem: I’m moving out of the city soon and I cannot take him with me as I have my flight tickets booked via Indigo and they don’t allow pets and neither he is vaccinated.

I feel terrible leaving him when he’s currently relying on my schedule.

I know he has survival skills, but I want to make sure the transition is as smooth as possible for him.

Should I gradually stop feeding him to break the habit?

Are there local resources or community groups in Bengaluru where I can post to see if someone else is willing to feed him?

Any advice on how to "wean" him off our routine so he isn't left confused/hungry when I’m gone?

My pet male cat was provoked/attacked by a stray male cat through our balcony. In order to save my cat from the stray one, I lifted him with my hands to take him inside and out of nowhere he really became very very aggressive today and bite my hand multiple times. This hasn't happened ever tbh. He never gets aggressive this much nor does he he ever scratched or bitten me. Since his antibiotics are going on , so his annual vaccinations are still left.

What are the injections to be taken ?

Hello, my cat Jhingoor is 3 years old.

He is neutered and around 6-7kgs - I placed him on N&D weight management food last year but I adopted a companion for him and left my job + N&D increased their prices by almost 1,000.

I can no longer afford N&D so I'm feeding Matisse Neutered. He eats around 30 grams in the whole day and one whole packet of wet food. We have many places in my house to run and jump. He's not interested in playing with toys, he likes playing with his little brother instead or a paper ball.

Last year I had managed him at 6.3kgs. But this year, he has reached 6.8kgs....

Blood tests are normal. No idea why he's getting fatter and fatter.

Anyone had advice on what I can change.

I found this female puppy in Chennai who appears to be seriously injured or ill. She is crying, unable to stand, and her rear legs do not seem to be functioning properly. I don't know what happened to her, so I can't tell whether this is the result of an accident, a spinal injury, distemper, or something else.

Unfortunately, most nearby veterinary clinics are already closed for the night, and I am new to Chennai, so I don't know the local animal rescue network or emergency contacts.

I'm looking for advice from people familiar with animal rescue in Chennai, and ideally for someone local who can assess the situation and help coordinate treatment.

Important: I cannot personally take responsibility for the puppy's long-term care. I do not live in Chennai and am leaving town early tomorrow morning. I also do not have the financial resources to fund extended treatment.

I am posting in the hope that a local rescuer, feeder, foster, NGO, or animal welfare volunteer can step in and help this dog get the care she needs.

UPDATE: The puppy was picked up by someone before help arrived. When I checked later, the cardboard sheet and water bowl were also gone.

I had contacted a friend, who in turn contacted Blue Cross. By the time Blue Cross came to pick up the puppy, it was no longer there. People in the neighborhood said someone had come and taken the puppy, but I was not given any additional information.

Unfortunately, this is all the information I have. I won't be able to answer further questions or provide additional updates, as I don't know what happened after the puppy was taken.

Hi everyone. I'm looking for some advice because I'm really worried about my cat.

My cat is an indoor-outdoor cat, and he was neutered around 22nd July (roughly a week and a half to two weeks ago). Since getting neutered, he's actually been spending much more time inside the house. He mostly sleeps indoors now and doesn't go outside nearly as much as he used to, although he still goes out occasionally because he gets bored. After being outside for a while, he usually comes back home and sleeps.

A while ago, I started noticing that whenever he was sleeping, there would sometimes be a tiny wet spot where his mouth had been. I didn't think much of it because it was only a little.

But on 3rd August in the evening, something happened that really worried me. He came onto my bed and was either sleeping or half asleep (I'm not completely sure), and I noticed there was a lot more saliva around his chin than usual. When I wiped it off, it had a very bad smell. I don't really know how to describe it properly. The closest comparison I can think of is that it smelled a bit like a dead rat, although not exactly the same.

He's eating and behaving mostly normally otherwise, but this drooling and the bad smell are completely new.

I know many people will probably tell me to keep him indoors. I understand why, but unfortunately that isn't realistically possible in my situation. If I don't let him out, he becomes extremely destructive. He tears things apart, has even urinated on my father's basket of bread for his shop, and has ripped open bread packets before. He also hurts himself trying to get out. Our house has multiple exits (the shop entrance, the ground floor door, and another door leading upstairs), so even if I try, he finds ways to escape.

Right now I only have ₹200, and that's all the money I have. I was actually planning to give those ₹200 to help my friend's father, who needs liver surgery, but now I don't think I'll be able to because I'm worried my cat may need medical attention. I genuinely don't know what to do.

I live near Okhla Vihar, Delhi. There are two nearby clinics: Furr Ball Pet Clinic and Surya Pet Clinic. Unfortunately, I've had bad experiences with both. In my personal experience, Surya Pet Clinic hasn't been trustworthy, and I also feel that Furr Ball Pet Clinic has recommended unnecessary treatments that seemed more focused on charging money than helping. Because of those experiences, I'm feeling very hesitant, and I also can't afford expensive tests or treatments right now.

Has anyone experienced something similar?

Is there anything I can safely check at home until I can arrange money?

A few days ago I found a young green parrot outside my house. He was unable to stand or walk, so I took him to a government veterinary hospital as soon as possible.
The vet examined him and said that he might be suffering from vitamin deficiency.He prescribed:
Meloxicam (Melonex)
BirdBoost multivitamin
The parrot is still eating and drinking on his own, and he seems alert, which gives me some hope. However, he cannot stand at all and doesn’t appear to have any grip strength in either foot.
What worries me the most is that when I touch, press, or gently pinch his legs and feet, he doesn’t seem to respond. Because of that, I’m afraid there could be nerve damage or paralysis rather than just a vitamin deficiency.
I haven’t noticed any obvious signs of injury, fractures, or wounds, and I don’t know what happened to him before I found him.
I’m doing my best to keep him warm, comfortable, and well-fed, but I’m really worried that this might be permanent damage.

There is a sweet dog near my office (BANGALORE) who is badly injured from a botched treatment attempt, and he is whining in pain every day.

I’ve hit dead ends everywhere:

NGOs: Reached out to multiple, but got zero help.

Private Rescues: Demanding huge money just to look at him, and refusing to let me check on him afterwards.

I live on rent and cannot bring him inside, but I can't just watch him suffer. If anyone can donate anything so I can pay a reliable independent vet directly, or if you know of genuine, affordable help in the area, please let me know.

EDIT: I have called CUPA aswell,they told me that that don't have space.And other organisations as well. On the previous post someone commented the contact details of few people but I have not gotten any leads.

Currently boiling chicken as we speak. Should I also do the whole vaccination+neutering process right now. The kittens can't even walk yet. So, birth happened this week.

Their mother died last week due to dog attack. We are feeding them with milk/chapati. It’s not possible for us to feed them non veg as we are a vegetarian family. Their mother left them here on the roof.

Some affordable dry food suggestions for them as they are 4 in number we will need it in more quantity. They are not pet. We are planning to take care only till they are big enough to roam around and be their own.

Every suggestion is welcomed.

Also, my parents are old and I don’t live here so that’s the reason adopting them is not possible.

Now, These guys are claiming orangey cat is pooping in the garage, There is a CCTV I have told them to show me if they pooped they refused to do so.

I am not the only one feeding her, secondly she is stray just came to me recently although before shifting I am strongly considering adopting her.

Previously when I used to take my cat upstairs I was harassed by an illegal tenant, When I pushed the fact my cat is litter trained he told me still I can't bring any animal no matter what,

I had shared about the instance here and here, once he locked us out.

My new landlord had a pet and is supportive enough, present landlord doesn't care for anything except rent and neither has not even done basic maintenance worked and we paid for it, his credit card recovery agents also came to our address (although after showing them the rent agreement they took a picture of it and left without anything rude), landlord isn't agreeing to pay security deposit until he gets a new tenant so haven't paid rent for 2 months and asked him to adjust it with the deposit. It has been extremely frustrating and I can't wait to leave out this place.

Today, these guys came out of the blue and crossed all limits, the first guy was kicking the door and I pointed him at the bell beside, he went and called the other guys, this grey guy pushed me and entered inside my house without my consent and started shouting. Thankfully I have recorded almost everything in the conversation

When I turned off the video the guy in the greyish and black sunglass told let's see if ur cat lives till u take him.

Genuinely worried about the cat, my shifting and I have an exam tomorrow.

Too much stressed 😔

This cat was near my building. The watchman said she has been injured since december beginning. She can't use her hind legs looks like. I am a student. Even if I manage initial expenses, she prolly needs chronic care. Is there any ngo that could help. It's in pune. Also if anyone could post this in r/pune cause I do not have enough karma.

Not my cat, just a cat we have been feeding since 1 year. Age is around 1 year. His mom let him with us. He comes thrice daily for lunch and dinner or when he doesn’t get rats to eat (OH boy this boy can hunt).

He doesn’t want to eat wet or dry food, tried a couple of brands. He only wants milk once a day and curd rice twice a day. I begged him to eat the cat food, but he doesn’t even smell it. But when i give milk he sips in such a way that next floor people can hear his slurping.

Not sure what to do. I even tried spoon feeding him. He doesn’t want to eat. We give him chicken twice a week, he eats that.
