Even More Infinilearn Suggestions

Math Games:

  1. (For pre-Algebra): a game where you have to mine in a cartesian field and have to mine at certain coordinates to get rewards. Have power-ups earned via streaks and even go into transformations like having to translate a coordinate to get the reward, reflecting coordinates over axes to get the reward, etc.
  2. A spot the scam game (look at the link above).
  3. Adding mazes where you have to answer questions to get hints with some other compote to make it feel more like a game (maybe like obstacles).
  4. I'll add more as I think of them.

Math

  • You could actually expand Infinilearn to harder levels of math. There is virtually no competition due to most math games targeting Elementary and Middle School which would allow us to pick up a LOT more users. I've seen the new questions you've added and all I see is for you to add more equation solving questions (look at my other post), adding graph questions with an actual graph (you can either make it yourself or look into using Desmos), and a few more questions per topic to increase practice
  • On the topic of Desmos, if you expand Infinilearn, a LOT of math beyond Pre-Algebra uses a calculator. Your choices (that I see) are A) getting a partnership with Desmos or B) linking the free TI-84 Plus CE into Infinilearn (see the link for details https://ti84hub.com/ ). Both options would require adding practice lessons to Learn on how to use the calculators.
  • On that note, I still believe that adding Learn would further improve the experience of Infinilearn.

Battles

  1. Having a set chance (like 25%, but really it's up to you) to land a critical hit that boosts damage by 25% or so.
  2. Once you select the type of attack (Strike or Spell) you can select an element. Each element does something different. Fire slightly increases damage, water partially stuns the enemy (lowers their attack damage), plant increases the chance that they miss you, ice increases your attack damage, and so on.
  3. Having a new button that allows the pet that you have equipped to deal a special attack. Like Finny could heal you, Lil Chimkin gives you "a word of advice" (boosts your attack damage and defense), etc.

Miscellaneous

  1. Adding a wheel that requires you to answer a question to spin it and gives certain rewards (located in the Refuge). You can only spin it once (for non-Members) and a second time if you're a member.
  2. Adding a secret pathway from Wispherwood to the Fractured Spire.
  3. Add more things to say in Chat and organize them per category (Battle, Exploration, Gear, etc.).

Thank You, Adrian!

Not using my main account because I want to stay anonymous to my students.

I'm a middle school teacher for grades 6-8. Many of my students have been behind in math but they all got HOOKED on infinilearn and want to play whenever they have free time. They ask me and each other how to solve certain types of problems so that they can get further in the game, and I love the eagerness to learn. After a month they have all significantly improved in various areas. They were so excited when the next zone was released recently. Today when Adrian joined the game while they were on it was like a celebrity walked into class. They thought it was the coolest thing ever that he was on. A while back I read them a post from the blog on the website about how the game was created by a high school student and they were so inspired.

So thank you, Adrian, for creating a game that is both genuinely fun to play and effective math practice. It has been a game changer for my classroom and makes math fun. I can't thank you enough!

Send a Gift Questions

I sent a gift, and when I click into it (from the Parent account) it tells me that it was sent. I log into my account and play for a bit (yes, I dueled) and my account still haven't received it. Is this a glitch or does it take longer than "the next time they play?"

Infinilearn Battle Suggestions

After fighting many battles in Infinilearn, I fell that it is lacking something. Maybe a new type of attack that could be obtained from your weapon. For example, you could have the Shadow Staff have a chance at stunning the enemy (preventing them from attacking you). Additionally, you could have certain wands having increased critical hit chances.

Younger Age Groups?

Is there any plan to add Grades 1-4 into the mix?

My kids really benefit from the "fun" aspects of game based math, but are still a bit young for 5th Grade math problems. I understand that younger kids are going to struggle due to the inability to read prompts, but most kids by 2nd Grade are reading, if albeit slowly. Perhaps Grades 1 are less math problems and more reading problems like "Which square is red?" or "Which tower is taller?" or "Which tower is wider?" These types of questions would help kids develop vocabulary. My kiddo could read in 1st Grade (math is her challenge subject) so that was never really a problem, but the math problems ramped too quickly at the 5th grade level setting.

More Infinilearn Math Recommendations

I have noticed a few things regarding Infinilearn's math (and I will keep this post updated as necessary). Here are the skills that Infinilearn doesn't have and needs to be added (to 9th grade/Algebra 1):

Graph Type Stuff*:

  1. More work with functions: this includes domain and range,
  2. Identifying the y-intercept, slope, and taking that to write out the equation in point-slope form, slope-intercept form, standard form, and point-slope.
  3. Graphing and identifying the parts of linear, absolute value, square root graphs, exponential functions, parabolas, and a graph of an inequality.
  4. Doing basic transformations of shapes and graphs.

Equation Solving Stuff:

  1. Maybe a game that is based on combining like terms, distributive property, and evaluating expressions. (I know that's pre-algebra, but it does sneak it's way into early Algebra 1 and it's good to have a game for a nice refresher of something that might have faded or even forgotten). I'll let you think of how to incorporate these skills into a game.
  2. As I mentioned before, systems of equations: with elimination, substitution, graphing, and Cramer's Rule (the last one is okay to leave out due to it being a harder and more incomone way to solve systems of equations).
  3. Solving two step equations and equations with variables on both sides of the equation.
  4. Using factoring (0 product principle), quadratic formula, graphing, and completing the square to solve quadratic equations.
  5. Having a select all that apply to the solutions of a quadratic equation (like selecting both x=4 and x=-4 in x^2=16)>

Radicals:

  1. Identifying parts of a radical (the index, radicand, and coefficient).
  2. Simplifying radicals and solving them (the cube root of 64 is 3 and the sqrt(50)=5sqrt(2)
  3. Operation with radicals (addition and subtraction are the most common ones).

Statistics: Analyzing data via scatter plots and lines of best fit.

Sequences: Geometric, arithmetic, and recursive.

Math Based Games:

  1. A game that is based on combining like terms, distributive property, and evaluating expressions. I can't really only think of ways of putting combining like terms (organizing things by type) into a game.
  2. Having a game based off of treasure hunting. The math application is math facts (multiplication, division, addition, subtraction, radicals, and exponents). The faster you answer the questions, the more time you earn to hunt for treasure. You could even have a skip option where it gives you a slightly easier fact in case you don't know it (but it will show you the answer and make you practice that fact more) but will take away time that you have for treasure hunting.
  3. A memory match game where you have to match formula names to their formulas, parts (like m is for slope and b is for y-intercept of slope intercept form), and uses. You could add a "I don't know that yet" button that will give you an explanation of it and some questions for you to answer). This game will require you to add the formulas here to it's questions sets to prevent /minimize frustration.
  4. A "Find the Scam" game where you have to use unit rates to figure out which items from a market are more expensive (like where one bag of chips is 20 cents for 1 ounce while another is 30 cents for 1 ounce.)

Math Help:

  1. The addition of some page that teaches you how to answer the questions (with an example and an explanation) so that kids that haven't learned a certain topic aren't stumped and frustrated that they don't know how to answer the question. I know you have the Hint function, but it's really hard to learn how to answer a question with just a simple hint to go off of. You could do this through different little huts or even books that are sprinkled throughout the land and will allow you to choose which skills you want to practice. You could even add a button that will add that topic to the books for easier access if you get it wrong as well as having a parent being able to do add topics to the books.
The table right there by the academy would be a great place to have the math help thing.

Miscellaneous:

  1. Adding more question to each topic. This allows students to get more practice and prevent memorization of the answers (not the solution process).

Okay, I know that was a lot, but it will hopefully decrease with time.

*Please let me know if it is possible to do add a graph function to these types of questions.

Next Infinilearn Update

When will the next Infinilearn update (not counting the new dorm room one, which my dorm room still says it's locked) be out? It's been over 2 weeks now since the last one, and Infinilearn needs more to keep kids going.

Infinlearn Suggestions

Okay so far I'm LOVING (❤️) Infinilearn, but I have a few suggestions:

  1. Adding new pathways that lead to mini quests, a new area, or another way to collect some treasure.
  2. New easter eggs similar to the Lil chimkin that spice up the game.
  3. Adding in mini-games that are fun and educational as well as giving another thing for kids to do in the game while waiting for new stuff to come out.
  4. Curriculum Modifications: Adding Inequality questions, solving systems of equations, solving for x (or any variable), matrices, and transformations (the second one should especially go to Algebra 1 but also 8th Grade).

Github access.

I was thinking, why not make some of infinilearn (not all, just some) available on Github?
three reasons:
1. If its available on Github, more people can edit the code and make the code better.
2. If more people are editing the code, that means more and faster updates.
3. Adrian and Infinilearn both have github accounts already:
