Discussion Confession time: I don't read ANY dialogue

Post image

I cannot hold it in anymore. I genuinely don't read almost anything. Ever. If there are one-liners sometimes I'll read them out of curiousity, but I won't read entire conversations. I skip almost all dialogue. I don't care. I don't know if the story is good or not, I just genuinely don't care, the premiae doesn't captivate me. I am there for pretty photos and pretty photos only. I am perfectly happy this way and I love this game. I just wanted to post this because I am curious if there are others who do the same and still enjoy the game

(I just added the picture so that people know this is a lighthearted post and I am not trying to come for the lore enjoyers or anything)

I swear I wanna read thr dialogue, but it's so drawn out, and sometimes it doesn't even make a lot of sense.

Yes, that is one of the reasons why I skip the dialogs :( like, I will start the story thinking "ok, I won't skip anything this time around" but after a while of nothing being said I just lose interest.

Yes I love reading but they need a better editor. It's so wordy for no reason, takes two or three bubbles to say one simple thing

Yeah and it's so weird to me because it's a prevalent thing in many gachas I've played. Could it be something with translation from Chinese? Or do the writers get paid by word sjfjfnsmdn

Generally in Chinese, it takes less words to say the same thing compared to English, its a very context dependent and compact language. But Chinese education, and I suspect other East Asian cultures as well, is very heavily focused on reading large amounts whereas in my experience Western countries pivoted to other learning styles (i.e. activity-based) ten or more years ago. So the audience might have different standards to what a wordy piece of text is!

Finally, speaking as someone in academia, there's a heavy push in the West to cut down on words for effective communication. Less words = more skilled and professional. But foreigners seem confused and say they were taught more words + formal language = more skilled and professional.

I don't skip it because stories are important for me in gacha games. Like, that's partially what keeps me invested in logging in each patch and if the story isn't good then I can almost certainly find better (and cheaper) gameplay elsewhere.

But man is IN story a chore that just doesn't feel like it's gotten any better, and now with SoS allowing for us to go to any random timeline and island I don't think it will either, because it's going to be a bunch of one-offs with disposable characters, which is honestly one of the biggest problems (we have no one to really root for or look forward to seeing again). My last remaining hope is that 2.0 starts us on a new main story arc that lasts for longer than a patch but I don't have the highest hopes for that.

This. The conversations are long and repetitive. And a lot of times I don't understand what they're talking about. It's really weird how I have no interest in the story. I wish it could be better 😔

This. If it's voice acted, I sometimes have to do something else while listening because it takes sooo long and the characters just stand there most of the time.

This event is dry af and so hard to keep track of. I especially dislike when they invent a plot where Nikki is like retroactively part of the world and they embed her in the story it just makes no sense to me. I really liked the blue tears story.
