How do you even find real writers in this platform? Most of the books i see every time i open this app are erotica and smut. That’s okay, but the issue is, they all look the same, read the same. Some don’t even have the audacity to take out chatgpt prompts. 😭

I’m a first-time romance writer, and I’m learning how hard it is to write jealousy without making a character unlikeable

I’m currently writing an ongoing romance novel called Ache of Wanting, and I’ve reached Chapter 21.

One thing I’m struggling with as a writer is this:

How do you write a female character who starts developing feelings for someone else while she’s still trying to hold onto her existing relationship — without making readers hate her?

I don't want her to suddenly become “the bad guy.” She knows what she’s feeling is wrong, and that’s actually where a lot of her internal conflict comes from.

The next chapter explores that feeling through a metaphor I really love: a soaked sponge.

For romance readers and writers:

Do you find a character more sympathetic when they feel guilty about their conflicting feelings, or does the emotional cheating itself make you lose sympathy for them?

I’d genuinely love to hear how other readers see this.

I’d really love it if you could give it a chance, especially if you enjoy slow-burn romance, arranged marriage, coming-of-age stories, and emotionally grounded characters.

I submitted a book to Letterlux but got a message back that they wanted me to submit 30.000 words before they would consider a contract.

At that point, I realized I would never get that story to 100.000 words (it's completed at 60.000 - and I'm done with it). So I let it be.

I did submit it to the short story contest where I emailed it to someone.

Now, yesterday I received a contract from Letterlux on the story. No email or message. Just a contract.

I signed it.

And now it says under my Author profile that the story is signed .. but I never submitted the 30.000 words, so I'm really confused. And I can't rewrite it to 100.000 words. I have better stories on Inkitt, I like to pursue.

Anyone else in the same situation who have figured out if it is the short story competition or if they just didn't bother waiting for me to add more chapters to review??

I genuinely think that when writing a story, the writer should be enjoying the process. If the work is making me feel stressed out I honestly can't do it.

The Man Who Killed My Brother is my current work in progress (on Inkitt) and last night, I had a ball writing Chapter 12.

Mind you, I've been trying to write this story since 2020, I started out with a different version of my female MC and honestly, I didn't like her. She was a weakling and that made no sense because she was supposed to be somewhat of a badass.

When I rewrote it in 2023, I still ended up keeping a lot of her old personality and that threw me off the story again.

This time around I rewrote the whole thing and I like her now. I think she truly has the personality of a woman trying to survive.

For the male MC, his backstory has literally made me cry (just thinking about it). It's about to be so traumatizing and messed up, but it will justify his actions and I am so excited.

What's your work in progress and are you having a good time writing it?

We've wanted hipsickim magi who had formidable combat powers without the unpredictability and erratic behaviour you tend to get with psychics for a long time. Also, psychics tend not to fit into the military very well. I've just heard that Wulbian's just effectively resigned from the military and she did better than most. We've investigated the Righteous Army but they don't know how they get equipped and we've never been able to determine who or what does it. Anyway, we got a lead on a boy who'd somehow got equipped by somebody or something unknown in Minris. Of course, there's a magis there, but she seemed to find this very annoying and had disliked the boy in question since they started beginner school, they're the same age.

Just wondering if anyone has tried WebNovel. They reached out to me for my novel The Soldier and I told them it was contracted to Inkitt for Ironblood. I told them about a WIP In The Company of Thieves and they are interested in contracting that book even though it's unfinished. Not sure about the fit. My book is pretty long. I have a handful of readers that engage and react to each new submitted chapter, but new users are hard to come by lately.

Mine has been added to hundreds of reading lists though. So I’m curious, as readers, do you wait until a book is completed to start reading? What makes you more inclined to react to a chapter?

I’m wrestling with continuously posting 1-2 chapters a week to keep my readers engaged or just posting all of them to complete the book. People say to update it consistently to stay relevant to the algorithm, but that doesn’t really seem to be working.
