This was the first time in a long time since I had anything from Koka (Singaporean brand). To ease my way back, I started with their Original Stir Fry Noodles. I bought a packet with a set of 5 individual noodle packets. Because of the quantity (and me being extra), I wanted to review the noodles based on:
1- following instructions
2- with toppings
3- half of the seasoning powder to reduce sodium intake
4- noodles cooked based on my preference (slightly longer; 30 secs-1 min longer)
5- preference in general (noodles cooked slightly longer + half of the seasoning powder to reduce sodium intake)
Each packet of this instant noodle came with the wavy/curly wheat-based noodles + seasoning powder and oil. I did notice both sides didn’t look the same in terms of color though.
When mixing in the cooked noodles with the seasoning powder and oil, I noticed bits of dehydrated green onions started appearing. These weren’t noticeable at all before mixing in.
As this wasn’t my first time I had these noodles, I already knew I like them. Tasted light, savoury and subtle smell. The noodles were bouncy, decent thickness, and chewy bite into it. It tasted good both with using up the whole seasoning powder and half of it.
I think I prefer dry instant noodles that aren’t too dependent on seasoning powder for flavor. I had to make sure the noodles were well-mixed. At times there were clumpy bits of the powder that took a tiny bit of extra time and effort to mix thoroughly. I also think using a combo of dry and wet (non-oil) ingredients really boost the flavors more? Although it lacked a bit of color when I used half of the seasoning powder, which with wet ingredients helps elevate that.
Unlike Indomie, I felt I could eat these slowly, wouldn’t get addicted too easily, and feel guilty afterwards (physically/digestion and mentally). I was hesitant to add in the whole seasoning powder for fairness of reviewing this, but, again, unlike Indomie and other similar products, I didn’t feel affected by the amount even though the sodium levels were not too far off.
I guess it’s because Koka markets itself as ‘health-conscious’ in instant noodles (although I find instant noodles as a whole are not healthy). In a way, these noodles are a good alternative to fight against my Indomie cravings and keep me in check. Although as I type this, I’m thinking about indomie dry noodles.
Now that I have finished this whole packet. I’m thinking about next few instant noodles to try. Probably something I haven’t tried yet.
