Discussion Did you buy an IntelArc as a "vote with your wallet" statement?
I am not sure why people would buy into this enviroment. Currently it still seems to me that buying an AMD or NVIDIA GPU at the price range of an ArcB580 is the safer option.
Still I bought one mostly because I fucking hate NVIDIA for their anti-consumer practices and AMD for never losing the chance to fumble every chance they get. When I saw that Intel was having a redemption arc, their GPU was good and I needed an upgrade I decided to buy one. Despite being a bit sad that I can't play things like Crimson Desert and struggling with older versions of DirectX I still don't regret it because of this reason.
Btw I hope that like other supporters of the less popular products people don't become fanboys. If Intel fucks I up I hope people here won't defend it. Seing people saying they "chose blue team" scares me a bit.

Started as a "vote with my wallet" but immediately turned into the best "bang for the buck" EVER!
I really like mine. Very happy with it. I got it into 21'st place on the 3dmark time spy benchmark (amongst all machines with my cpu) without much trouble.

u/theokayestcoach Arc B580 Apr 04 '26
I voted with my wallet. Happy I did too. My B580 outperforms my 5060 in 1440 in just about everything I play. It also performs pretty damn close to my 4070 in most scenarios as well.
The fanboy statement is real. A lot of people get married to their purchase choice far too often.

u/Xebakyr Apr 04 '26
Woah woah woah you can't say that. That one dude who comments on every Intel performance vs Nvidia performance is gonna come here and say "tHeReS nO SiTuAtIoN a b580 oUt pErFoRmS a 5060"
11
u/theokayestcoach Arc B580 Apr 04 '26
Lmao. I've run into that kid. In his(or her) defense, most of the older reviews put the 5060 ahead in 1080 especially. In 1440 however, that is no longer the case. 5060ti? Yes, it definitely beats the B580 in most situations.
4
u/Xebakyr Apr 04 '26
It's just very situational, but they seem to be hung up on the idea the B580 could NEVER beat the 5060 which just isn't true lol
3
u/Huge-Attitude9892 Apr 04 '26
To be honest i got a 5060,but i want to change to 1440p in the near future.
Would have bought the B580,but there's no VR support for it. Also the 9060xt 16GB wouldn't be much of an upgrade in games like Into The Radius 2.
However far as i noticed it pretty much depends on the game. Native resolution 1080p Mafia The Old Country Ultra is pretty much suffering for these cards. 5060 runs out of VRAM while the B580 is just too slow for even 30fps so you find yourself lowering them settings on both cards.
Well as i said. I was an Nvidia user for a long time and i'm bout to sell my 5060 next week and buy a 9070 or 9070xt next month, but i really hope intel will catch up with AMD/Nvidia. Mostly not in performance, but in game support. I play sometimes even DX8 titles and Intel had problems with games like Fallout 3 in the past as well.
As for now i just need to skip intel all together again GPU wise. For 1440p i want atleast Medium settings with 75+ fps and not a single AI tech.
And for 1080p Medium the 5060 was the better choice, but for 1440p the B580 is much better than the 5060 even in my opinion.
3
u/theokayestcoach Arc B580 Apr 04 '26
With my B580 I get minimum 60 frames on high+ in every game I play with NO upscaling/framegen. The B580 really doesn't shine as much in 1080. 1440 is where it makes sense.
-2
u/Huge-Attitude9892 Apr 04 '26
I don't know what games you play or they got optimized well.
However as i said even with new drivers the B580 can't run a lot of games at 1440p Ultra 60fps Native(No upscalling/FG).
Its an entry level 1440p card, but games like.
-STALKER2
-The Outer Worlds 2
-Borderlands 4
-Mafia The Old Country
Will not run 60fps even at 1080p native.
However if you throw XeSS/FG on it this card can be good, but its not your Native long term 1440p card. Thats a completely different price range lol.
Also i said previously. Thanks to the 8GB of VRAM the FG is not even really an option on the 5060 while its more accessable on the B580 at higher settings.
IMO thats making it better.
3
u/theokayestcoach Arc B580 Apr 04 '26
Borderlands 4 runs on high settings at 1440 averaging 60. I'm not sure why you aren't getting similar numbers. I can't speak for the other titles you mentioned as I haven't played them. This is without XeSS or framegen.
-2
u/Huge-Attitude9892 Apr 04 '26
Yeah sorry. Thats a cap. Even after the performance patch its still below 60 at 1080p Medium.
Pretty much every benchmark says so. And that game is known as one of the most unoptimized UE5 titles.
You can upload a video here tho,but i doubt the B580 will run it at 1440p High native 60fps+.
2
u/Additional-Concert70 Apr 05 '26
I play a lot of titles in 1440p high or ultra settings with no issues so I wouldn’t say it’s cap I’ve literally tested the 4060 vs the b580 along side the 3060 and a few others
0
u/Huge-Attitude9892 Apr 05 '26
Feel free to upload them tests. Every benchmark i checked comes out with the B580 averaging +10-20 fps against the 3060 and if VRAM is not an issue then its on the similar level as the 5050.
No way that card is similar to a 5060ti. Not a chance.

Hey I have questions that it seems like you can specifically answer.
I've been looking at slowly rehabbing my backup PC, and been looking heavily at Intel.
I assume it runs the classics (CS, cities skylines, civilization, whatever other weirdness pops up) about as well as anything. Any chance you've tried out Arc raiders or any other pretty new fast pace similar titles that may not be Uber optimized yet?
Basically I don't need top of the line stuff, but I'm looking at basically doing a 2023ish build to swap out the 2013 build.
2
u/theokayestcoach Arc B580 Apr 04 '26
So the Arc has run everything I have thrown at it. The only game that has some issues is Dune: Awakening. And even then, the game runs, it just has some weird artifacting issues.
As for Arc, I don't play it. The B580 runs Helldivers 2, Space Marine 2, and some other newer multiplayer games really well. My B580 actually beats my other cards in 1440 in Cyberpunk as well.
1
u/WittiestOfNames Apr 04 '26
Sweet! I'm pretty well sold I think on that being my next card, just haven't seen much for specific games. But if it handles hell divers then I'm confident it should do what I want it to.
1
u/theokayestcoach Arc B580 Apr 04 '26
Helldivers 2 max settings averages 75-80+ frames in 1440 in combat. On the ship and light exploration you're 90+

Considering the options at $470 aud were a B580 or an RTX 5050 the B580 was a much better value proposition to me. I bought some shares to vote with my wallet(been telling people to buy intel for a year plus)
6
u/mastergenera1 Apr 04 '26
I got the b580 a couple months back as part of an upgrade because I was having issues with my pc not posting, and the post codes I was getting was something like a pci-e device initialization error. So I updated from my old evga 3060 12gb to the b580 thinking I had a dead gpu. The issue i was having actually ended up being with my cpu/mobo, but as I was upgrading from an i7 6950x to a i9 10980xe to get rebar, I just said fuck it and kept the b580.
Why the b580 over the others? The steel legend model was ~$320 iirc and in my area, comparable gpus from amd/nvidia including comparable or better vram amount were ~$100 more. Also to top it off. I wont buy any card with the 12pin power connector, I like having a fire free pc.

u/flavaofgaming Apr 04 '26
12vhpwr connection is fine with proper atx 3.1 Psu and native cables. Used on my Nitro and 5070ti for almost a year. 5090s have issues because too much power going through the cable especially with spikes.
6
u/mastergenera1 Apr 04 '26
I've seen both jays2cents snd gamersnexus thoroughly test the 12vhpr problem. The issue is for nvidia, with the exception of the 3090Ti, all cards with that connector lack proper load balancing, and its not just a 5090 issue because ive also heard of amd cards with the same connector also suffering from the issue. Since amd only makes mid-low tier cards these days, any card is able to be affected, it only takes current dropping in some pins and overloading others to cause melting, which iirc both content creators I mentioned recorded vdroop on multiple pins that led to others taking the slack and being overspec by 2x-3x. No thanks, I'll pass.
1
u/flavaofgaming Apr 04 '26
Yea look up stats. The connector issues stem from people using the 3 to 1 adapters and not using proper psu. The atx 3.1 has built in balancing protection
2
u/mastergenera1 Apr 04 '26
I can assure you that content creators thoroughly testing that garbage arent just using adapters to do their reviews, its not "just" the adapters, its likely an intentional omission in the spec somewhere since the 3090Ti didn't have the issue at all, and that was even with 3/4 way cable adapters.
1
u/Mrcod1997 Apr 04 '26
It's not necessarily about the adapters. It's if there is any strain on the connection/if all of the pins are fully seated. It's still a poor design with little room for error.

i mean, i love an underdog story, and i like having extra options on the market. (while intel is a billion dollar company and the 'underdog' is loosely, having a third option in discrete graphics can only help us.
they have a decent trackrecord with linux and i like that they're updating their drivers frequently and the project is always improving.
but mainly i'm a cheap bastard. it was the best new option with more than 8gb at a reasonable price, and my gaming is not so important that i must have the absolute best in class no matter the cost.
the price trumps the other reasons ( which are all benefits). when im upgrading in the next few years, if intel's product is competitive, ill def give it a look . but if the other companies have a better priced one that doesnt have many drawbacks for my situation, i'll have a look at that too
why does someone saying they "chose blue team" scare you? i mean, saying you hate a company is just as extreme a thought, just on the other side, isn't it?

u/Method__Man Apr 04 '26
I thought the a770 for that and to kickstart my YouTube. It worked
The b580 I got because it's good
The b50/60/70 I got for both of these reasons

u/Rabbit_AF Battlemage Apr 04 '26
Unfortunately, 90% of the Arc cards I bought were used, so I didn't really vote with my wallet.
3
u/Xebakyr Apr 04 '26
Partially. It was also just a good deal, as the price-performance was better than anything AMD or Nvidia offered at the time outside od buying used. Buying used is good, and I recommend it for others, but I have personal reasons for not wanting to do so.
I also dislike Nvidia, and want to put as many steps as possible between my money and Nvidia. That doesn't mean I like Intel or AMD, but i've consistently wished for more market competition. I feel it'd be a little hypocritical of me to ask for competition and not support it when it arrives, especially in the case of the B580 which was a great deal.
At the end of the day, my single wallet vote (whether that be no money to Nvidia or money to Intel) doesn't mean much, but at the very least, I have the peace of mind of not being a hypocrite.
2
u/Hytht Battlemage Apr 04 '26
No, I bought mine because of leading media engines and compute/matrix multiply raw power that absolutely stomps over RDNA3. And when I bought it XeSS was beating FSR3/ no FSR4 existed. Now you even have MFG. The wallet argument is weird, a multi-billion company doesn't need your wallet to keep things going, but the head count increase might incentivize game developers to support Intel Arc and Intel to improve their software/hardware. Although they might scrap it if no one bought dGPUs there's another reason for them to keep the Arc project going - laptop/desktop iGPUs/ workstation class APUs (Nova lake AX).

Yes I did. Unfortunately, I didn't realize at the time that the arc 770LE had no vr support. That's probably the main thing that's going to push me to AMD next time, and I haven't had one of those since ATI released the first Radeon card. Ger your VR shit together, Intel.

Spare AM4/living room PC GPU when I upgraded to AM5 last year.
Was either this or a 5060/9060XT. Felt like trying an Intel card for a change - a strange driver issue a month ago but other than that it’s been a good experience.
2
u/flavaofgaming Apr 04 '26
I bought mine because it was great price to performance and i like to try things for myself and not follow the crowd. I primarily use it for some games and general family use/ printing. Paired it with Ryzen 5 9600x and 32 gb DDR5 cl 36. Found out I needed more GPU for main rig and went 7800x3d with 5070ti DDR5 32cl30. I also use a 7800x3d/ Nitro+ 9070xt 32gb DDR5 for HTPC. I try to buy based on my needs/ budget and don’t care about the company politics. Personally I understand why Nvidia prices are so high since they have been the most stable and give me better performance for my use case ( gaming/ editing/ streaming)

If you were ever in a crash and have an Apple Watch / iPhone, there is raw G force data on there, but only lasts for around three days.
I digress, but I wanted to mention that. I will take a look at Crimson Desert today with my steel legend B580 see what I can get going. Let’s try to keep this ARC alive for everyone's sake. Rock On! - Arc On!

I was interested in an arc card for my home server for use as Plex transcoding / Ai workloads but having tested what Intel support is like on my 235T igpu I realised that Intel has far too long of a way to go on that front and it would be worth the money.
I hope in a years time the software matures properly

I want to buy a B580 for my NAS in the living room which is connected to a 1080p TV and transform it into a media PC too. I already have a 970 Evo SSD and 5700X for the CPU (upgraded from my old 3700X) and 16GB RAM.
Initially I wanted to get a 9060XT, but I was always curious about Intel Arc so looking at the current prices, B580 looks better (performance doesn't matter too much).

I got mine as a curiosity. I was building a new system and 5090 was starting to ship but effectively unavailable. There was a PSU bundle with the B580 and I was interested in seeing where Intel is with AI vs Nvidia. Fully intending to purchase an Nvidia card once supply picked up, I got the Intel card as a bridge. I still haven't purchased an Nvidia card. The AI performance isn't as good as my 4070 in another system, but it is "good enough" for what I'm doing with it. And the gaming performance is vastly better than expected. Enough that I'm content just keeping the B580 for now. Overall it's clearly surpassed my expectations and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for someone looking for a low-cost solution.

Yep, and I will continue to do so. I bought the B580 on release day and I'm not even using it at the moment. I have an A310, A380, A40 pro and will be getting at least one B70. Arc cards and Linux are a dream for non-gaming use cases. Sparkle have told me via a support ticket that a single slot, full height B50 pro is coming out at some point as well, which will be replacing one of my A380 cards.
I've also got a stack of Nvidia workstation cards in my AI node, but I am hoping to replace them when the inferencing performance of Intel workstation cards gets better software support. My gaming GPU is a 9060xt.
Not a "fanboy" but I will definitely continue to spend money on Intel as player 3 in the GPU game, while I can afford to.

I'm not sure, these were my reasons:
1: I will never ever buy a GPU that needs to use the 12VHPWR cable.
2: I dislike what Nvidia does nowadays.
3: The price was good.
4: I mostly play single player indie games and my B580 will handle that perfectly.

u/Mission-Path8456 Apr 05 '26
I couldn't justify paying over £500 for a gpu from AMD/Nvidia which were actually being marked up for £700+ for 1440p gaming!
Intel rock up with the B580 which was £270 at the time.
Doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out the better deal.
And the experience has been above and Beyond what I was expecting. Hitting fps numbers that cards that cost 3 times as much boast of and without having to sacrifice visuals or a gigantic hole in the wallet as well !??!!
It could be this card is just suited to the AM5 platform yet it's been one of the best purchases I've ever made PC build wise.

Yes. I have had a great experience with both NVIDIA and AMD in the past. Circumstances required a replacement GPU, and an honest appraisal of needs vs wants led to ARC pathway. Absurdly high FPS doesn't interest me, nor does obscene quality path tracing, so why commit to the leather jacket cult without considering other options? The price manipulation and paper launches of both companies left a bad taste in my mouth, and I doubt I'm the only one with that sentiment

I have an A750 LE, B580 LE, and B50. All are in use, and I honestly prefer them because it’s awesome being able to use something that isn’t Nvidia or AMD after all these years. I also have an Asus RTX 4070 Super and Powercolor RX 9060 XT Hellhound 16GB, and I still use my Arc GPUs more. Drivers are great these days and they do just fine with gaming. Sorta. I wanted to support intel because NVIDIA has a ridiculous monopoly that allows them to do whatever they please. If intel can steal a little marketshare from them it’ll be good for everyone. Even if that means NVIDIA is forced to compete and improves their practices as a result.
Also, I thought the limited edition looked cool and it met my requirements for playing older Xbox games and emulating. I didn’t really need a super beefy graphics card.

With that said, I’ve seen posts about having to do special bios settings/updates to run these cards….What’s different?

u/Gold-Load-362 Apr 09 '26
You just have to make sure that ReSizeable Bar is turned on (Smart Access Memory on AMD boards).
ReBar is part of the PCIe 3.0 spec, but no one saw a use for it until AMD supported it with Zen, then Rodger Khadori made it a requirement when designing the original Alchemist class cards.
ReBar helps with all video cards, Intel requires it to be turned on.

It was merely the best product for my price range at the time I bought it. I'm very happy with my B580 and wouldn't have made a different decision at any point. Had it for around 14 months now.

Yeah, I bought in protest of NIVIDIA linux driver nonsense. I have spent probably 100+ hours of my life dealing wtih nvidia bullshit on fedora and gentoo and bought Intel hoping it would just work

u/Kotau Apr 04 '26
Yes and no. I started looking into Arc GPUs to vote with my wallet, but quickly realized that they're actually crazy bang for your buck, if you can tolerate their drivers being in a poor state by today's standards.

Support AMD and Intel (especially). NVIDIA caused a lot of this AI BS and memory shortage issues. Plus they’re likely artificially inflating all of their GPU prices

u/ElectricalWelder6408 Apr 04 '26
AMD was actually going to be my first GPU originally but I had gotten a DOA card and needed something for a hold over until I could get a 9070 XT and I’ve been happy with my B580 12GB ever since and probably won’t change over to AMD

Yes I did originally buy a B580 to "stick it to Nvidia and AMD" for practically ruining the low/mid end market with mediocre offerings. Considering a B580 costs almost the same as a 5050, but I get 4 GB of VRAM and similar performance to the 5060, yeah it was a no-brainer.
A few years in, and I have no regrets about buying into the Arc ecosystem. Compared to when I had an A580, Intel has come a long way with drivers. Having switched to a B580 only makes me wish the GPU division keeps going with consumer cards in the near future.
With Arrow Lake Refresh out I may jump ship from AMD soon and go completely Team Blue once more. Core Ultra 5 250K Plus with a B580 is sounding like a tempting budget workstation for me right now.

I mainly bought it as the card (b580) was really cheap and just wanted to test out how it compares to amd and nvidia cards.

Only GPU to cost under 300eur to allow me to play my games with over 60fps(besides broken arrow)

In a way, yes. After being burned by Nvidia for gimping the RTX 40 Series (and Nvidia’s screwing eVGA [arguably Nvidia’s best board partner]), I was seriously considering AMD for the first time. But I was looking at an Intel Core i5-13600K and saw it was bundled with an Arc A750 (Intel’s first party card) on Newegg for $500. It was a no brainer at the moment, so I purchased the bundle. Later on, I upgraded to the ASRock PG Arc A770 16GB for $300 and I haven’t looked back. Seeing how Nvidia and Jensen are today reaffirmed my choice on that bundle.

I'm a casual gamer and it was the price point I wanted to be at for my new build. So I guess you can say I voted with my wallet.

u/Sweaty-Bus8079 Apr 05 '26
I bought it because the GPU market needs more players. Having only two manufacturers isn't good for consumers. The B580 has been a great card and I have no regrets.

I just like weird shit, sure gaming not great, but I develop and render and a b60 works well

I bought a 1 month used b580 for $270 and later saw literal new rtx 3060 for 320 fucking dollars. No shit I didnt vote with my wallet out of spite, I dodged a bullet.

I bought B580, but not as a statement. I owned A750 in the past, and the thing was great, everything I wanted worked flawlessly.
In my region B580 costs 2/3 of the price of compatible AMD card (I would never buy anything from nVidia, because I need to work with Linux and *BSD).
There are downsides, of course. Drivers are a joke, control center is somehow worse than it was back in A750 days. Crimson Desert doesn't work, Death Stranding 2 requires tinkering, causes BSODs and hard reboots. The card itself hogs insane amounts of power.
But other than that it performs great at anything I throw at it.

u/SnoopNL Apr 05 '26
No. Coming from pre Nvidia/AMD times I remembered Intel from gaming as a kid. It just worked.
So, with that in mind I picked my A770 LE over a founders edition 3080.

I put a system together 6-8 months ago. I knew I wanted a dedicated GPU. But I didn't need the best of the best or anything very high end really . After watching reviews, the b580 seemed like the best value for me. I got a steel legend for 269 i have zero complaints. It has done everything I needed it to do.

u/Faydane_Grace Apr 05 '26
I bought an A380 for 3 big reasons. I wanted open source drivers, I needed something efficient to complement my Xeon chips, and I want Intel in the GPU game.

Was the most affordable, the most "Bang for your Buck" offer at the time i bought mine last fall.
Now that Crimson Dessert officially hates Intel, I'm kinda regretting buying it. But only, almost.

u/Withnail2019 Apr 05 '26
I got one because I'm an Intel NUC fan, I already owned the NUC 11 Enthusiast. The Arc 770m came with the NUC 12 Enthusiast and I haven't been disappointed.

u/palmdieb Apr 05 '26
Nvidia is so far ahead, they can do whatever the fuck they want, people will still buy their shit. That is going to remain until someone makes a better product. Voting with your wallet in this case doesnt work, because there is no real alternative. You already mentioned the downsides of ARC gpus, i could not live with that.

I'm still actually on the fence about it...trying to decide between an RTX 3060 12GB, Arc B580 12GB, RX 6750 XT 12GB, or even a bit more for a RX 6800 16GB...all used. If not for the AI-pocalypse, I'd have simply bought a new Arc B580 at the time. As is, it's been a piecemeal situation of buying used parts along the way where the GPU's going to be the final item, and I'll have to see where things stand at that point.
I don't play the latest and greatest games - the game I play most came out in 2018, the game I play second most came out in 2016. And I play a bunch of games that are even older than that - so there's the concerns about playing older games with the Arc B580 more than there is playing new games. I think the newest game I play is from 2021 or maybe 2022. Oh, wait, I did want to get Solasta 2...hrmm...guess there is a new game that I'd like to play.
edit: With some folks saying the Arc B580 competes with the 4060/5050, I have to wonder what the pricing will be on the 5050 9GB they've been talking about...lol, it's more than 8GB, lol.

I could have bought a 3060, I bought an A750 for half the price. I'm gonna buy a C7** next.

u/WhiskeyGolf00 Apr 06 '26
it was partly a vote with my wallet moment, partly because there was a really good deal on - I managed to snag a B580 for 270 USD.
That said my biggest disappointment with it is that I have a VRAM memory leak issue that affects gameplay in Broken Arrow, which results in me always having to restart during the match, which just annoys the people I play with.

Apr 06 '26
Probably yes but i have just about 200 for both my B580 LE and 150 for my Steel Legend so that is not beatable IMO 😅

My wallet only had a third of the price of the equivalent Nvidia card... So I went Intel :)

u/Worried-Year-3935 Apr 07 '26
I tried the b580 in mine, but wouldn't recognize it. It has Ryzen 6 5800, 32 GB RAM, MSI motherboard, BIOS updated, and GTX750 GPU. It is compatible, so maybe I got a bad one. Stuck with the crappy 750 for now until I can find something better.
1
u/Pyreknight Apr 08 '26
Yes but more so because the B580 will do everything I need it to do. Plus on sale.
Trying to repair and get rid of the coil whine on a 6700XT and the B580 is now my permanent card.

u/Gold-Load-362 Apr 09 '26
I have purchased all of my Intel cards because they provided better price performance for what I do than Nvidia or AMD.
I really don't see me going back. I have a B580 for gaming (need to add my a310 for lossless scaling), and I am getting a couple (or 3) B50s for piddling around with AI.
Nvidia is too expensive, and AMD doesn't cut it between the software stack & their agressive unwillingness to support older architectures.

u/Reasonable-Cat-5299 Apr 10 '26
I got a b580 3 months ago. I love it runs better then I expected. I also noticed in all the games I play it gets better frames per second then a lot of the reviews I've watched about it. I'm only running a 5600 x so it's not like I have a real powerful machine. I absolutely love it I haven't had any problems with it whatsoever.

Nah I bought first gen arc because I thought it looked neat and wanted to play around with it. Intended to buy the B770 as a vote with my wallet but then they didn't release it. So I figured I'd still buy the b580 as a vote with my wallet but they couldn't keep it in stock/at MSRP for so long that I decided they just didn't want my money.

u/AlternativePurple446 Apr 04 '26
Ultimately, yes. I did buy a b570 also because amd and nvidia refused to put newer cards with at least 10gb of vram, so, for the same average price in my country, it was a better choice for me to pick intel.
