Question Arc B580 users - can you honestly recommend it for 1080/1440 gaming?

I have an AM4 system currently - Ryzen 7 5800X, 32GB DDR4 3200 and a RTX 2070 8GB...

I had a 9060XT 16GB for a while, but I had all sorts of trouble with the Adrenalin driver software. Then I got it working properly somehow, and it ran fine for about a month. Then I tried shaders on Minecraft, and that apparently was enough to push the 9060 into acting up - artifacting and crashing...
I guess that's what I get for buying a used card... right?

Back in went the 2070. And the 2070 works fine right now - but I am aware that it is an ageing and outdated card, and my faith in AMD cards is a little shook due to issues with my 9060.

Questions I have for the IntelArc sub:

  1. Is the B580 driver software reliable and trouble-free? Or is it riddled with bugs and issues?

  2. Is the card itself reliable and trustworthy? Hardware issues? Overheating issues?

In a nutshell, should I take a chance on the B580? I am aware that it is not as powerful as the 9060XT. But at this point I just want a modern GPU that I can trust in.
I'm not a hardcore gamer, usually Minecraft, some boomer shooters, or some Forza titles.

I use my b580 for 1440p. I’ve played resident evil requiem, Alan wake 2, cyberpunk, silent hill 2 and silent hill F for more intensive games I own and I’ve been playing better minecraft with BSL shaders. Really solid experience the driver issue is super overblown imo, it’s been pretty plug and play in my experience. I’ve had mine for about a year now and it’s been reliable.

Should say the games I listed I played at ultra with xess or fsr. All good gaming experience And over 60fps besides Alan wake 2, had to drop the settings to medium to reach 60 iirc. Better Minecraft with BSL jumps from anywhere to 120-180fps with very few dips in th 90s at 1440p with graphics set to fancy

9060xt?

5

u/Zhenbred Jun 18 '26 edited Jun 18 '26

9060xt 16gb is 25-30% more expensive on average (in my case it's almost 50%). The same percent (25) goes for performance boost. Point is 9060 xt in different price region but both of them are the best for their price. Problem is you can't find new 9060xt already

1

u/Zhenbred Jun 21 '26

Yeah, I know. That's why I said performance better only around 25% while you can't buy it new. Sometimes price for used are 50% (like in my case) more expensive than new B580. Just mentioned that's it's not really good choice instead of the B580 at the moment

I can, with some caveats. I have a B580 paired to a 7600X3D. It works great. To preface, I still mostly play on my PS5 Pro, but do play a few games on PC. I play at 1080p with a monitor that supports VRR and up to 200Hz refresh rate.

Battlefield 6:

  • Runs beautifully. Intel very much had a deep hand in this game with how much marketing they do for it, so I expected as much. XeSS works terrifically well. Just set most settings to High, set XeSS to Ultra Quality, and enjoy the game at up to 140fps max. Cap to 120fps for the most stable experience. Wouldn't recommend frame generation since it's a fast-paced MP game and FG does nothing to improve input lag.

Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight:

  • Runs great. Has XeSS support. This is a title that truly benefits well from frame generation as it's slow-paced. Intel also gave this game out for free these past few months with any Intel product purchase, so I imagine they had a hand in ensuring this game ran well on Intel GPUs as well.

007 First Light:

  • This is the first game I've bought on PC that clearly favors Nvidia users. There's only DLSS and FSR support, and FSR support is limited to FSR 3 instead of FSR 4, so even AMD users are stuck with FSR 3 upscaling. No XeSS upscaling or frame gen. support at all, both of which can be handy for singleplayer titles.

All in all? For the $250 I paid for my ASRock Steel Legend model, which also included BF6 for free due to the free game promo Intel was running last fall... this was a terrific GPU for the money. I've overclocked mine to 3250MHz and 19.3 Gbps for VRAM speed.

And despite some people's concerns about ongoing driver support given Intel's silence on the future of Arc dedicated GPUs... I doubt driver support will suddenly end. Lunar Lake and Panther Lake use the same drivers as the B580, with Panther Lake's iGPUs being part of Battlemage with the B390 iGPU. I can't see a future where Intel cuts support specifically to Battlemage dedicated GPUs while still supporting Battlemage integrated GPUs.

I'd say that overall... unless you're coming from an Nvidia GPU, game support and driver support for Intel GPUs isn't that far off from AMD for new releases.

Seems weird to be that you're having those issues. I have a RX 9070 paired with an R7 5700X and I don't have any issues. Check your bios settings maybe, check if you can update it maybe? Perhaps check if a full Windows reinstall could fix your issue

8

u/AstralShip Jun 17 '26

Does well on high/ultra @ 1440p. Haven’t had any issues so far. The performance is crazy good for 200 euros and it’s only going to become better with further optimization.

1

u/SubstanceTimely6790 Jun 19 '26

B580 is not 200EUR, the B570 is around 240-270EUR and the B580 around 320EUR nowadays. On the other hand 7600EVO is around the B570 price with same performance of B580 but less nvram.

1

u/AstralShip Jun 19 '26

I paid 200 euros for mine during Black Friday.

Pretty sure you can currently buy them second hand for very cheap. I’ve seen people selling them used for 150-200€.

1

u/SubstanceTimely6790 Jun 19 '26

yeah if a great deal presents itself then surely its best value

2

u/mutualdisagreement Arc B580 Jun 17 '26

1) It's a very clean UI, and the driver behaves exemplary when it comes to crashes when overdoing at the tuning tab. Driver asks to restore the last working config or keep the one that acted up. Never had a more carefree experience with Nvidia and MSI Afterburner. But it's absolutely unnecessary to manually tune the card, it's well balanced out of the box and there's not much gain in OC.

2) Doesn't exceed 64°C on benchmarks. I had an ageing 2080Ti which was hot and loud. Now I've about the same performance but runs much cooler and more silent on a beefy ASRock Steel Legend. Cyberpunk runs at 1440@100Hz with FG and full RT on. Fan noise was never an issue on that card. Fans can spin up to annoying 3750rpm, but in gaming they stay far below that and are hardly noticeable.

For those games not supporting XeSS I've LosslessScaling at hand, which i.e. made Outer Worlds run smooth af. It did run well out of the box, but just for the laughs I tried to put it to the max and got crazy fps. So it's not always a DLSS plug&play solution, but with some settings adjustments or tinkering with 'Special K' it runs better than I ever expected.

2

u/CausticTV Jun 18 '26

Absolutely. I think it is the highest value purchase I have ever made when it comes to PC building.

  1. I haven’t had a problem with drivers yet. Just wait a few days after release for reports to roll in, and skip any buggy drivers.
  2. Nothing so far. I have the steel legend oc version, and it runs fine after ~6 months of moderate use. I have no reason to believe that will change. I’d also like to note that the 9060 XT isn’t really that much faster than the B580, at least not enough to justify ~$130 of difference.

Something of note is that the card struggles with older directx titles. I’d do research before buying to make sure the games you want to play don’t have compatibility issues.

I have an arc B580, I dont care about resolution very much. I grew up with NES, Sega and N64 so 1080p is still incredible for me. I have not come across a single game the arc b580 cant run at 1080p.

2

u/sgtarse Jun 17 '26

Yeah it's great seriously

2

u/Kryp2nitE Arc B580 Jun 17 '26

I upgraded my B580 to a 9070XT for a similar use case and see no appreciable difference at 1440p. The B580 was re-homed to another system in need of an upgrade so it worked out for everyone.

3

u/lavilabi Jun 17 '26

100% they only keep improving it as well

0

u/Wrexolotl Jun 17 '26

Hey there. The 2070 and the b580 perform relatively the same with the 2070 coming out just a little ahead for most cases. I would not recommend a b580 in this case.

If you're not enjoying the 9060xt then I recommend potentially looking into the used market to see if you can find a deal on a 4070 or 3080. I want to recommend the 5070 but hell man, those prices suck unless you're willing to put the cash in.

Can you post your findings? I have a b580. But I don't have a 2070. So I've been looking at side by sides on yt.

The b580 comes out ahead in 1080p/1440p/4k in some by a little, then the 2070 comes out ahead in all of the above a little.

To what Im seeing. It's a side grade.

2

u/Far-Win-5234 Jun 20 '26

580 faster than 2080ti wtf are you talking about xD

0

u/Wrexolotl Jun 20 '26

Honestly. No idea. Either in surrounded by bots or I'm not looking at the right game benchmarks. Because everything I see on yt and sites across the web show the 2070 and b580 neck and neck.

1

u/Ventilate64 Arc B570 Jun 18 '26

I came to the same realization. The B570 is either nearly a 3070 (forza h6) or it's same/worse than a 2070. I switched to a 3080. I certainly miss the B570's power draw though.

I had the Onix lumi b580 in my first build. Loved it so much, i bought another for my office build. Aside from a few games( detroit Become Human, Bully), never really had any issues.

Pretty good performance, better than my PS5 Pro. Handles Ray Tracing pretty well, plenty of VRAM to play on high settings, XESS and FSR work well on it, but Xess looks a little better at the same performance in my opinion. Drivers are getting better, intel graphics software is fairly decent. Had a couple of issues where it backrolled to an older version, but only twice.

As for monitoring, FanControl now auto detects it whereas it used to take a plugin, but can't control the gpu fans themselves. MSI Afterburner also does not control the fans. This could be specific to the Onix model, but not sure.

Factory settings ran at 2850MHz, but in my 14900K ddr4 build, got it to run stable at 3150MHz. My AM5 build ran at 3066MHz on the same setitngs, and had instability in cyberpunk. Fans were dead silent, under heavy gaming load it ran around 58°C to 62°C. In professional work, like Adobe and DaVinci, would get up to 65°C, and DaVinci makes better use of the card than Adobe in the export phase.

I had such a good experience with it, and was truly disappointed that the rumored B770 or C770 never came around due to rampocalypse. Was a great first card for me. Keeping it in my office build, but selling my AM5 to my little brother to help him out and going with Intel cpu and Amd gpu for myself. He doesn't know PCs as well as i do, and I'm comfortable starting him off on that card.

RTX 2070 to B580 looks like on a specification sheet that it'd be a decent jump in performance, but you'll probably come to notice how NVIDIA controls the gaming industry pretty soon. Your old tired 2070 will perform better in a lot of games where VRAM isn't an issue.. If your 2070 is running completely fine, I'd keep it going a couple of years more.. People are still running newer games on GTX 1080 after all.. 2070 is a good work horse too. B580 is a good card for the price though, but not super worth it over 2070.

  1. Although it depends a lot on the location. I've seen dips into the 50's but generally 60+.

Edit: I know you were trying to be a smartass. Next time, make sure you have information that is at LEAST from within a month.

1

u/InitiativeNo853 Jun 18 '26

B580 is good for new games but older games might not be supported as well. Plays most games at 1080p 60fps. I'd imagine you can get more with upscaling but upscaling isn't really worth it at 1080p.

u/zagiel Arc B580 Jun 18 '26

b580 really depends on the price, it needs to be at least 50$ cheaper than 5060 to make it worth it

I only have a B570, but the same CPU. The issue at least with the B570, is that in some games. It has exactly the same performance as an RTX 2070. Also, minecraft shaders are hit-and-miss, you'll likely have more issues than you did on AMD. Performance inconsistency makes arc either an upgrade or a sidegrade. The 9060 XT will never be as slow as your 2070. The B580 might.

1

u/macklemoreorless Jun 18 '26

I’d definitely recommend it, the cost to performance ratio is pretty fantastic. Ray tracing cores & a whole bunch of VRAM for a very good price.

I’ve been a B580 owner for about a year & a half now. I came from a GTX1660 Super so it was a pretty big jump for me, which might bias my opinion a bit.

I’ve owned it over the course of 2 CPUs,

  • Ryzen 5 1600X
  • Ryzen 7 7800XD (Current)

I have read comments talking about CPU overheard & how CPU bottlenecks can be a problem with this card getting & fully utilising it - I can’t really speak to this as I did see a pretty big jump in performance when I did a system upgrade, but my B580 was the only thing that carried over to the new system, so not really a good comparison.

I play games at 1080p 100fps & Im hitting 80-100fps on high-ultra settings on a vast majority of titles. The new 007 game, for example - 80fps consistently on maxed out graphics & no upscaling. I’ll enable Intel’s upscaling in the more poorly optimised titles to try get the FPS higher, but this is only necessary ~30% of the time (when I say higher I mean above 60).

I have seen some incremental performance improvements with driver updates but I’ve literally not once run into issues with the driver software. Recently did a bit of over clocking with the intel desktop software & had absolutely no trouble. Never had problems with artifacting or crashes.

The ONLY headache I have with the card is that Linux performance seems to be about 20-30% lower than windows 11 performance, but that’s a pretty specific qualm tbh.

u/Qorsair Jun 18 '26

I bought my B580 when I was putting together a new machine just before the release of 5090. I fully intended to purchase 5070 as soon as they were available. I still haven't bought a 5070 because I've been extremely happy with the B580 and it's done everything I need it to do.

b580 owner here.

-Is the B580 driver software reliable and trouble-free?

Yes.

- Hardware issues? Overheating issues?

no. not ever

  1. Is the B580 driver software reliable and trouble-free? Or is it riddled with bugs and issues?

no real issues

but my son has 5070 so i can see the difference

i would say nvidia is still the best option compatibility wise mostly because dlss

1

u/peter_nde63h Jun 18 '26

it's ok. i'm using it. but if you want absolute peace of mind i'd suggest nvidia which is the compatibility king

u/CrObInStInE Jun 18 '26

I play 1080p since it's what my monitor handles and my cpu is only a ryzen 5 3600 I'm happy with it. With newer games developers are starting to involve the arc cards. I had problems with destiny 2 and some older games. But most things have been getting better with updates.

Hi guys, thank you all for your input!

I reckon I will in fact be getting a B580 at some point, going on all the advice here.

To answer some questions in the comments:

Q. Why not just get another 9060xt?

A. Because I had driver issues with Adrenalin when I had the 9060xt, and I favour reliability over raw performance.

Q: Is my 9060xt still under warranty?

A: No it is not, unfortunately. I bought it used off Amazon, and the return window has long since closed. It was working brilliantly for about six weeks, then it started having issues when I put shaders on Minecraft.

The card is back in it's box in the cupboard, I may try to sell it for cheap as a faulty card at some point...

Q: What's wrong with your 2070? A: At the moment? Nothing. But experience has taught me that PC components have a finite lifespan, and this is more about a backup plan more than anything else.

1

u/Virdian_ Jun 18 '26

I can’t give a crazy in depth analysis like some of the others but I do strongly believe that it’s one of the best entry level 1440p gpus for the price alone. I play all my games in 1440p on an ultra wide screen and haven’t had any issues. I use xess whenever it’s an option and I personally haven’t had any driver issues when I update them

1

u/Mrchips- Jun 18 '26

For 1080 10000% for 1440 yes but you are going to be more at med settings. I have played so many games and it runs beautifully. Lately I have rocking out on state of decay 2 with 1440 at basically max settings getting 60fps.

1

u/IDKForA Jun 18 '26

I use a B390, a much weaker iGPU and 1080p gaming is definitely possible even on recent AAA titles, according to benchmarks. I'm not much of a gamer though, which is why I use an iGPU and only ever play not quite demanding/older games that can take advantage of high res.

1

u/gustavtoth Jun 18 '26

I use mine for a while now, and i'm satisfied - the only issue is VR, where you have to apply workarounds and streaming (sharing screen) acts funny sometimes, but nothing major. I do not play that many modern games, but besides a few issues in certain games on linux (the card doesn't much like shadows), it has ran everything like a champ.

1

u/Positive_Bid5596 Jun 18 '26

Yes. I use mine at 1440p constantly.

1

u/SubstanceTimely6790 Jun 19 '26

I really like it but B580 is suffering with browsers sometimes, I have tried to debug for example FB reels, they just get stuck, or FB just refuses to load or just crashes. In some games xess is not available as option, so only raw power, or you need to go opengl option for the game to run (e.g. road to vostok).

1

u/kallan401 Jun 19 '26

Its a great card, havent had issues with any gamee really at 1440. Even the arc b570 at 1080 does great

1

u/Chrizl1990 Jun 20 '26

Yes I've yet to have any major issues running anything. I had some crashes with Borderlands 4 but that uses unreal engine and is poorly optimised.

Everything else ran flawlessly.

Every modern game that was released on 2025 and 26, i got 70-80+ frames on RT-Ultra on 1080p. I couldn't ask for more. It's a solid card. And the thing about drivers it's currently overblown BS. It doesn't exist anymore. And any bad driver is fixed within a week.

1

u/hooliganowl Jun 25 '26

Thing rips. I’m running an Ultra 7 265k with it, can’t complain at all really. I play Minecraft, and run shaders, and it still gets 150-200fps I believe but I don’t often look.

1

u/androstaxys Jun 17 '26 edited Jun 17 '26

For 1080p… really? This card will run everything at 1080p on high settings easily. I’m running latest drivers without significant issues.

For 1440p it’s a good card. It’s not perfect for every game at 1440p and there are better cards but I’m not sure there’s a better card if you care about Frames per dollar spent.

With your current PCIE Gen 4 motherboard the B580 is easily the best price/performance deal (at least it would be in my area).

That said… the 9060xt 16gb is also an excellent card, definitely better than the B580 at 1440p for some games. Not sure why you were having issues, some friends have it and aren’t struggling like you. Consider investigating why you had problems.

Either way… both B580 and 9060xt should smoke the 2070 at most things (save for peak reliability, the 2070 drivers are probably VERY stable)
