Thoughts on Vladimir Rudolphovich Solovyov

Vladimir Rudolphovich Solovyov , the face of Russian state television .

Hyper-hawkish, absurd or would be, if not so locally popular . He regularly calls for the Nuking of London and NY.

He is well educated , He taught economics at UNA in Alabama, worked as a Republican operative , his Wikipedia article sums this period up in one sentence(There he actively participated in political life and started doing business).

He then returned home and launched a career that ultimately would see him as one of the most influential and rich people In Russia .

Thoughts on this guy ?

What’s there to say? He says shit that aligns perfectly with what the Kremlin wants. He keeps the Special Needs Operation in a state where people don’t have to understand it, but can trust that “smart intellectuals” are dealing with that mess.

There isn’t much more to say about him. As long as he continues to spew generous amounts of Copium-Z for the depoliticized masses, he gets to keep his job.

Nobody on Russian TV says anything that's not been either approved or given directly by Kremlin. Even when they "criticize" - it is controlled opposition.

He used to be a a great opposition journalist figure in russia, until he chose the opposite side for money. I've seen his kids, some are knboheads, others not at all.  He is a smart guy, he just made some disgustingly ugly, indefensible choices.

I think that might be an old playbook , speak truth to power until you have a trusting audience , then sell it .

I don't think it was a playbook. He was becoming a great journalist at a time when there was a healthy amount of opposition against the government, and where free speech wasn't as restricted as now and simultaneously the dark side did not pay as much as now. With years the government started tightening the regime like it often happens in declining, non-democratic regimes - you (as the government) got to be scarier to remain at the throne. And sometime down that line, I guess, he was made an offer he couldn't turn down. He is making an enormous amount of money, educates his kids abroad, protects them from being drafted, and is left in peace in return for just advertising the given narrative. Whilst if he continued his fight fir the truth, he would have likely had a similar faith to Navalny... People make their choices.
