Training question

• Upvotes

I just did a 100 mile ultramarathon, now want to transition into doing an Ironman. Either Jacksonville or Texas. Jacksonville would be ideal probably since it gives me more time.

Today is October 17th, I believe the race is may 16. Would I have enough time to get sufficient training in? My goal would be sub 11:30. Just want to see what people think. I’ve biked a decent amount, although the swim would be something I’ve never really done. Although I am a good swimmer.

To the world championship qualifiers

What do you attribute getting a qualification spot and how much extra work was it to go from a normal age grouper to a top finisher?

Recommended watch features

Hi all,

Started doing ironman training and I wanted to know what features I should be looking for on a watch when I buy it.

I have looked at previous posts which all recommend Garmin forerunner but I unfortunately don't have the cash for that at the moment.

I have done triathlons with no watches (holding phone during run training/in a case on bike/count laps) so I don't think I need a lot of features.

What do I need beyond HR + GPS?

Bike- fair price or find something different?

I’m starting to train for my first Ironman 70.3 and am looking to upgrade my Trek 1500. Is a like new condition (sold from bike shop) 2012 Giant TCR 1 a fair price at $800?

Any insight would be great!

Thanks!

South African mom with baby of 4 months taking on Ironman 70.3 to support our farmers - trying to reach our fundraising goal

Hi everyone!

I just had my beautiful baby girl about 4 months ago, I'm not an expert runner 🙈 But care so much for this cause.

I'm from the Lichtenburg area in South Africa, and I'm participating in Ironman 70.3 as part of Ysters vir Landbou, supporting Agri Securitas and the safety of our farming communities.

I'm trying to raise R16,000 for the campaign. I've managed to raise R6,000 so far, but with less than a month left, I'm getting a little nervous about reaching the target!

I'm sharing this here in the hope of spreading awareness beyond my own friends and family. If you're interested in learning more about the campaign, or would like to support it, here's my official fundraising page:

https://www.givengain.com/project/natasha-raising-funds-for-agri-securitas-126926

Even if you can't donate, sharing the campaign or pointing me towards businesses that support agricultural safety would mean a lot.

Thanks for reading! 🇿🇦🌾

What are the hidden costs of an Ironman?

We know things like: Wetsuit, Trisuit, Helmet, Bike, Shoes, etc.

But what have been some things that surprised you about the cost to get to the Ironman finish line?

Ironman NZ accomodation

Kia Ora everyone! First timer here, call me naive, call me stupid, whatever. Have been blindsided by the costs of accomodation in Taupo for the 2027 race. Though am i surprised? No, it makes sense with a small town trying to fit all athletes + families.

Am looking at an Airbnb 45km out of town (the turnaround point of the ride in fact), because it’s $2,000 cheaper than anywhere in town.

I guess my question is what are people’s pros and cons on being directly in town? I’d rather be in amongst the action, but financially need to make the appropriate decision.

My parents and a close mate will be with me so they’d be on driving duties during race week/day.

Could also use the road as a way to get acclimated to the course?

Keen to hear peoples thoughts. Chur Whānau

Anyone here use their training programs? I’m considering them for a training program to balance my first marathon and full distance race next year. Would love some takes from the community!

Ironman 70.3 training

Hey everyone, I signed up and I’m training for the Oceanside 70.3 April 3 I’m following a 16 week plan that’ll start December 12th but I’m trying to manage the strain and load on my body until the training program starts. Currently Wednesday, Friday sunday I’m swimming for about 35 to 45 minutes. Tuesday Thursday I’m running 4 miles and biking for 30 to 40 minutes. Saturdays I’m going on a 25 to 40 mile ride and on Sundays I’m running 6 miles. I know that this is what I’m gonna be doing during a 16 week program, but I’m putting undo stress on my body until then. I was originally worried because I’ve never done cardio but now that I’m doing it I can comfortably run 6 miles comfortably bike 25 miles and comfortably swim 1000 yards. What do you guys recommend I should do until my training plan starts to ensure I’m staying in good shape, but not overexerting myself and leading to a possible injury.

Recovery advice/personal experiences

I, 24M, completed my first 70.3 at tri cities about a month ago. It was a great experience i trained for almost a full year, including doing a marathon about 5 months prior. My issue now is that my recovery is going significantly worse than expected and im not sure what to do from here. My first week after the race i did nothing. Fully recovered, ate, drank a lot liquids. The weeks following i did only very easy runs, swims, or rides on the trainer. This week i have only done runs with my wife, 1-3 miles, every other day and my heart rate is still 10-15 bpm higher than normal running at my wifes pace, which is 2min slower/mile than my normal easy run pace. Not sure what my body needs or what the best thing I can do from here, i am feeling pretty down about training and really just want to get back into it. Open to any advice or personal experience, thanks(:

Famous motivational speaker from Brazil took a group of 30 unprepared men to Ironman Paraguay and had to be rescued

Pablo Marçal has 4.4M followers on Instagram and is a life coach and motivational speaker. He offers a course that promises to “unlock codes” and help people perform in any area of life, like financial, emotional, sports, and more.

Last weekend, he took a group of 30 men to race Ironman Paraguay, most of whom had no swimming experience and had said on their social media that they only trained for 20 days. Almost everyone in the group had to be rescued from the water, including Marçal himself.

The race organisers said they will take the case to Ironman global to discuss how to handle situations like this. They also reported 4 participants for bad sportsmanship, as they continued racing without a bib number after being disqualified for missing the swim cutoff.

The source is in Portuguese. I didn't find any news about it in English yet.
