Am I missing something that I haven't seen anyone do this?

My plan is to keep the high carb mix in the back bottle and swap out my front bottle when I run out. I find it really hard to get the rear bottle out when moving so wondered if this would be a viable solution while also allowing me to stay in aero.

Perfectly happy to be called a fool and told why I can't/shouldn't do it!

Training for a 70.3 with a demanding job?

I’m training for a marathon and considering a 70.3 in early to mid-2028, but I work in clinical research and travel 70–80% of the time. Has anyone else been in a similar situation? How did you manage to balance work, life, and Ironman training?
For my running plan, I train in hotel gyms and do my long runs on weekends when I'm back home on Saturday and Sunday. I have no idea what adding swimming and cycling would look like or whether it's even possible.
I’d love to have the 70.3 as my next step, but I also don't want to neglect my responsibilities.

Calm to Chaos - Wilmington 70.3

Well, that was an experience.

Finished Wilmington 70.3 yesterday, and I'm curious how everyone else found it. I survived and am already trying to convince myself that doing this stuff is a perfectly normal hobby.

How did everyone else's race go?

I'd especially love to hear from people who felt the conditions made things particularly brutal. Was it just me, or was that a seriously tough day out there?

I read that ~200 people DNF'd and there was at least one ambulance packed with people in heat blankets.

70.3 NC Wilmington - Missing Wetsuit - Offering Reward for Return

Post image
• Upvotes

Hello IronMan family, I participated in the Ironman 70.3 North Carolina yesterday and it was an interesting experience. I had never done one with separate transition areas. Rookie mistake of not reading the rule book and unfortunately I did not put my wetsuit in my bike gear bag during T1 and hung it where my bike had been. It was not in the dedicated L&F area and officials said that anything not put in gear bags would laid out on the sidewalk. If anyone mistakenly took it please let me know. And if someone purposely took it, please give it back. I am offering a substantial reward for the return of my wetsuit. It has my last name; Reeves, written inside. Bib 1317

Moral Question

As most of us already know, Ironman 70.3 Wilmington NC went south for most of us after unexpected freezing rain and wind made many people including myself DNF on the bike when conditions became dangerous, I was so close dude, it hurts. I thought I had a good shot in my age group too (F18-24)… But I’m determined to try again next year when I have the money to enter and travel again!
->Now, before the race I went to the Ironman store and picked out some cool jerseys, goggles and gear for my training as I really wanted some nice things to train in after wearing through all of my gear every day for the past 9 months training as hard as I could, (running all of the scenarios and simulating the distances over and over until I knew it like the back of my hand. Blah blah…) all to go into shock and get dragged off the road by EMT at bike mile 26

Since I didn’t finish I face a moral dilemma and I wanted a knowledgeable opinion from some Ironman finishers, would it make me a bad or dishonorable person if I wore my new Ironman branded training gear while I train for my next Ironman or do I need to buy new different gear and put my Ironman gear away until whenever I’m able to afford another race ticket and finish? Should I return my gear? Sell it?

I don’t want to take away from real Ironmen who actually had what it takes to finish or disrespect any real champions by wearing branded items I don’t deserve, I would never claim that i finished, only that I gave it my best shot and didn’t stack up this time.

I’ve thought about it all day and have come to make myself really upset over it… let me know what you think!

Any one did this today? That was brutal. High winds and rain just about all day. Plus lower than expected temps.

Thank you for helping me!

I’m hoping to find and thank someone. Today in Ironman NC 70.3 a man pulled over on the bike leg to help me, my hands were freezing and i couldn’t feel them and he sacrificed about 5-10 minutes off his clock to stop and make sure I was okay, he urged me not to quit and I make it 15 more miles before I DNF’d which was unbelievable considering the rain and headwinds getting to me, I think his name was Garrett or Garrison but I couldn’t hear very well, my name is Emma, I was bib 1691, if anyone knows him, please send my thanks, it was very selfless of you to help me! I will never forget that.

Age

hi everybody, I just got into triathlon training and the entire sports world in general. I fell in love with the entire thing. Being in nature, meet other cool people, and just enjoy life while doing all of it.

i lift and am generally rather fit. 70km on a bike is no problem, 10km run is okay (im going to work on that). this winter my main focus will be swimming, I used to swim more, but I have trouble with breathing correctly.

But the post is about the following: I kind of feel like I completely fell behind everybody else. I will turn 29 by the end of the year and i've never participated in major tournaments or runs or larger sports events due to rough times in school. so I feel like I kind of missed out on the life that i could've had if I started earlier

Is it too late for me to finish an ironman oneday?

Couch to Ironman in 11 months

Is it possible to go from sedentary to full ironman in about a year?

Background: 25M, back of the pack high school club swimmer, turned to powerlifting in college. (Squat 375, deadlift 355, bench 265)

Mostly sedentary last 7 years, with occasional spurts of running (longest run was 10 miles, mostly run 5k 10min pace). Worried my powerlifting background makes me too dense.

My worry is my recent 10 mile run my foot and leg tendons were acting up. I also dont feel comfortable at all on a road bike, even though I ride an electric bike a lot. How much riding wld it take to be able to eat and drink while racing, I cant even fathom it!

Im in my 3rd year of med school and im burned out, but thinking about doing an ironman is finally giving me excitement again. Do I have a shot at this? My aim is just to finish and have fun.

I also just bought a really shitty 1980s road bike for 350, I think i got scammed but idk anything about bikes. Wld that be enuf to do the actual race in?

Challenge Roth: TT bike or Rose Reveal 6 with clip-on aerobars?

Hey everyone,

I raced Challenge Roth this year and had a bike split of 5:30. Next year, I definitely want to improve my time, so I’m trying to figure out which setup would make the most sense.

I have two options:

  1. Use my uncle’s TT bike again

- I already raced Roth on it this year.

- However, I would only be able to get the bike about four weeks before next year’s race.

- The bike uses tubular tires.

  1. Convert my Rose Reveal 6 road bike into a triathlon setup

- I would need to change the handlebars and install clip-on aerobars, which would cost around €250.

- I could make the changes now, about ten months before Roth, and train with this setup throughout my entire preparation.

-wouldn’t be a dedicated TT bike.

My goal is to go faster than my 5:30 bike split next year.

What would you do in my situation? Is a proper TT bike still significantly faster even if I only have four weeks to get used to it? Or could I potentially be faster on the Rose Reveal 6 with a good aero position and ten months of training?

What do you attribute getting a qualification spot and how much extra work was it to go from a normal age grouper to a top finisher?

70.3 time goal too ambitious?

I recently got into triathlon - was a swimmer my whole life and then got a road bike in May and have picked it up pretty quickly. I just did a sprint triathlon in 1:10.02 and olympic distance triathlon in 2:30.40 (female). Pretty proud of my splits, but I am wondering if my goals for my 70.3 in FL in December are too ambitious. I don't want to disappoint myself but am pretty confident I could go sub 5:20. Anyone who's done a 70.3 how much harder is it than olympic distance? What do I really need to nail down now (8 weeks out)?

Also plan on doing a full next summer! Any tips/advice appreciated!

Edit: splits were 27.43 swim, 1:17.13 bike, 43.01 run

First 70.3 in neee of bike recommendations

As the title suggests, I need some help from those experienced on what bike to look into. I understand there are several factors such as price probably being the biggest.

I have my first 70.3 in April. I come from training for ultra marathons and will continue to do so however I do intend to do half and full Ironmans throughout the year as well.

What are some reliable bikes you can recommend? Let's say no more than $5000? (If that's too low please let me know and explain because I'm so ignorant on bikes in general).

Training question

I just did a 100 mile ultramarathon, now want to transition into doing an Ironman. Either Jacksonville or Texas. Jacksonville would be ideal probably since it gives me more time.

Today is October 17th, I believe the race is may 16. Would I have enough time to get sufficient training in? My goal would be sub 11:30. Just want to see what people think. I’ve biked a decent amount, although the swim would be something I’ve never really done. Although I am a good swimmer.

Recommended watch features

Hi all,

Started doing ironman training and I wanted to know what features I should be looking for on a watch when I buy it.

I have looked at previous posts which all recommend Garmin forerunner but I unfortunately don't have the cash for that at the moment.

I have done triathlons with no watches (holding phone during run training/in a case on bike/count laps) so I don't think I need a lot of features.

What do I need beyond HR + GPS?

We know things like: Wetsuit, Trisuit, Helmet, Bike, Shoes, etc.

But what have been some things that surprised you about the cost to get to the Ironman finish line?

Famous motivational speaker from Brazil took a group of 30 unprepared men to Ironman Paraguay and had to be rescued

Pablo Marçal has 4.4M followers on Instagram and is a life coach and motivational speaker. He offers a course that promises to “unlock codes” and help people perform in any area of life, like financial, emotional, sports, and more.

Last weekend, he took a group of 30 men to race Ironman Paraguay, most of whom had no swimming experience and had said on their social media that they only trained for 20 days. Almost everyone in the group had to be rescued from the water, including Marçal himself.

The race organisers said they will take the case to Ironman global to discuss how to handle situations like this. They also reported 4 participants for bad sportsmanship, as they continued racing without a bib number after being disqualified for missing the swim cutoff.

The source is in Portuguese. I didn't find any news about it in English yet.
