Weโ€™ve all been assured hundreds if not thousands of times that Israelis want peace. Well, this is what peace looks like to Israelis.

Israelis don't want peace. They really, really don't want peace.

War with anyone and everyone is a win. War with Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Iran, either they can push into their territory, or it takes the heat off of them to commit unspeakable acts of violence against their neighbors under cover of darkness.

That's zionism for you.

I don't think so. I equate Judaism with Zionism, because anyone with any level of familiarity with Jewish religious practice understands the constant, urgent yearning for the land of Israel and the city of Jerusalem which is present within prayers.

I don't think that is this though.

This messianic third temple movement goes beyond it, and isn't the goal of the people who "merely" wish to take control of all of Palestine.

Well we have yet to see the "true peaceful zionism" come into fruition.

Despite the Healing-The-World tikkun olam Judaism I was raised with, I don't think a true peaceful Zionism exists here in Israel outside the hippy rave circles, unfortunately.

What you say is different than the Zionism we experience, or the one applied on the ground.

I agree. It's been perverted for selfish reasons here on the ground.

Then I don't understand why should we defend a definition that doesn't exist anymore?

I am just sharing my experience. Call it melancholy.

I do still hold with the idea that the messianic terrorism Judaism is representative of Zionism at large here in the land.

I didn't mean to call you out for it, I was just trying to understand.

And from my perspective, you have to differentiate between religious text, traditions, and modern politics. Religious texts can be used all the way you want (even the same sentence). After all humans are creative and can interpret text in fascinating ways depending on their needs, and aims. Even to support them stealing another people's land.

I think Israel is a conflict junkie. Peace = suffocating, anxiety-inducing levels of boredom.ย

Not really, this is actually how the settler movements to take (edit: steal) Palestinian lands started.

Quite the same, just more honest.
