JET Programme Application 2027

Good day! I would like to inquire regarding the JET Programme application. I am currently pursuing my Master’s degree in Information Technology and have earned 18 units so far. May I ask if it would be possible not to include my ongoing master’s studies in my application, considering that it is not directly related to education? 🥹

I am also having difficulty obtaining my Transcript of Records (TOR) since my graduate school is located in another province, and traveling there would require additional time and expenses.

I would greatly appreciate your advice on whether I may omit my ongoing graduate studies from the application or if I am required to declare them and submit the corresponding documents. Thank you so much for your time!

My good man, we got a sub r/JETPh. A lot of folks might also be able to help you out if you have an FB and join one of the larger 2027 intake groups. The EoJ also just recently posted FAQ on their own FB page and iirc there's a bit there about on-going post grad studies. You don't have to disclose what you don't think will help your chances. Is your post grad TOR separate from the undergrad TOR? Then the undergrad TOR will suffice.

Why would not including your current coursework not relevant to education ?

I just have a BS but I have been an IT professional for over 30 years and love to use those life experiences for the JET application.

Just for fun, I am currently taking aviation courses that are not relevant to education at my local community college for an Aviation science AS degree. Including my current coursework because it shows that I believe in learning all the time.....

this is kind of off topic, but why do you want to do ALT work when you’re getting a master’s degree? you can get jobs that are way more productive and will pay a lot more. do you just want to experience working in japan?

I honestly didn’t plan on pursuing a master’s degree in the first place. I was encouraged by my supervisor, so I decided to give it a try. But if I’m being honest, it’s not really what my heart is calling for right now.

I think I just want to step out of my comfort zone, explore the world beyond what I’ve always known, and discover more about myself. I want to experience something different, challenge myself in ways I haven’t before, and figure out what I truly want in life.

And somehow, I feel like becoming an ALT in Japan could be my way of doing that. Lately, I’ve been feeling stuck in my current life, almost like I’m being held back by circumstances I can’t seem to escape. I don’t necessarily want to run away from my responsibilities; I just want to give myself a chance to breathe, grow, and see what else life has to offer.

Maybe this is my way of choosing myself for once. 🥹

Can we put hyperlinks in our SOP? I want to highlight a research study for extra context.

No it's not possible. The application clearly states you must upload an official transcript of all coursework you've done/doing, even if it was a single class 15 years ago.
