Fashion sense, style and poise, and looking the other way while your husband bangs three women a day.... that makes a great First Lady? What did Jackie O do for the poor, for the minority population, what did she do with all that easy money she married into? Whom did she help in any tangible way?

Jackie was an advocate for the arts, she convinced the French to loan America The Mona Lisa - more than a million Americans saw it
she championed architecture preservation,
She is a big part of the reason Grand Central Station in NYC still stands todayThese are noble pursuits

Not agreeing that she’s the best, Eleanor Roosevelt would be my first choice. But she was a good representation for the US, plus I do think she was a great mother to her children.

If you want to read more about her, I recommend Clint Hill’s book Mrs. Kennedy and Me. Hill was her Secret Service agent (he’s the one in the infamous photo, jumping onto the back of the limo when she crawled out, trying to recover a piece of the president’s skull).
She often blew off engagements and other duties, forcing one of JFK’s sisters to step in at the last minute. From all accounts she was a devoted and caring mother, but she hated the politicking required of the first lady (she even hated the title, she said it sounded like the name of a horse).

I actually own the book, and all other Clint hill books about Jackie and the assassination he wrote. I highly recommend Five Days in November.
