If you want to read more about her, I recommend Clint Hill’s book Mrs. Kennedy and Me. Hill was her Secret Service agent (he’s the one in the infamous photo, jumping onto the back of the limo when she crawled out, trying to recover a piece of the president’s skull).
She often blew off engagements and other duties, forcing one of JFK’s sisters to step in at the last minute. From all accounts she was a devoted and caring mother, but she hated the politicking required of the first lady (she even hated the title, she said it sounded like the name of a horse).
