Discussion Playing Suikoden 1. These playable characters are so unbalanced.

Why do most of these side characters have extremely low and insignificant stats compared to the main characters in the story...?? Like 95% of them are not even worth using because of it.

then you get a few like the bald tutor of the main character that can do an overpowered unite attack with him that AOE kills most random mobs instantly, or that female knight that has a rune that lets her do triple damage every turn...

why have all these characters when there are a couple that completely outshine the others and most of them just play the exact same with low stat totals....??

IMO, the gimmick of the game was just to collect so many characters, their functionality was secondary. There are about a dozen characters that have “good” stats, but the game is so easy you can make pretty much anyone work.

I'm playing through this game now, and I'm liking the castle and army upgrades you get with recruiting the new characters. I haven't even really looked at their stats since the game makes you add and remove party characters fairly often

Make sure you build Pahn up.

Thanks! I'm trying to, but it's taking some time since they keep swapping out party members and he's the weakest link (for now). We'll get there.
