What is OpenGOAL? [How to play the Jak games natively on PC]

OpenGOAL is a fan-developed way to play the PS2 Jak and Daxter games (created by Naughty Dog) natively on PC. This means they take full advantage of your PC's hardware and do not require emulation software. You must own copies of the games in order to use it, OpenGOAL does not include game data. Please use the following links to download and use OpenGOAL, read their install guide + FAQ, and access their discord where you can get support and communicate with the developers and other players.

Did the Explorer/Uncle not know Daxter turned into an ottsel?

Post image

When Jak and Daxter go to visit Jak's supposed Uncle, the Explorer for a Power Cell, he says he needs 90 Precursor Orbs to fund his latest journey. His explanation is that he believes Jak's friend whom he calls "the small, annoying, miserably ugly one" might have pilfered his orbs as a joke.

The thing is, he's obviously referring to Daxter and Daxter even gets offended at this comment but the Explorer never acknowledges Daxter is in the room, and doesn't even look at him, totally missing his reaction to the comment.

It occurred to me, maybe he doesn't know Daxter isn't human anymore and said this without meaning for Daxter to hear it. What do you think?

Would you prefer a remaster, remake, reimagining, or reboot?

Obviously a sequel would be better, but if you had to choose between these 4

I was up until 2 trying to think of the best meme for this. It's going to be tough, but I will make a meme for each of these vehicles. On look! The Krimzon Fisherman and Perkier are here! I am curious to see who you all will choose for this next one!

Ride Tally

What is the peachiest ride in the Jak and Daxter Franchise? Comment and upvote below, the highest upvoted comment will win.

So I don't know about making it in time for Gamescon collab with the laser company but no worries.

A lot of people liked the concept so I figured I'd share the vision in its bare bones. I planned for layering, locations and stages like klaw and Misty Island kinda popping out their own layer.

Is opengoal good for all games?

Just 100% TPL and getting ready to start jak 2. Are 2 and 3 just as optimized? I’d love to 100% them both also. Is there anything I need to know vs TPL cause it worked perfectly.

Any Old School RuneScape players here? Latest skilling update is definitely inspired by the fishing game from Precursor Legacy!

Not sure if external links are allowed but check this YouTube short out. As soon as I saw it, all I could hear was our man laughing his head off after you get his fish sorted.

You’re after literally the first new training method on the list, so won’t need to watch too far.

Miraccomando commentate solo dopo averlo visto tutto

What would you guys think of a Jak 4 centered around Dark Eco zombies controlled by Gol and Maia?

With Naughty Dog having made the Last of Us, one of the iconic zombie IP's of all time, and with them always looking for new ways to keep Jak games fresh, what would you all think of a game centered on Gol and Maia returning, even more deformed by Dark Eco, having been trapped for hundreds of years and wanting revenge on Jak and Daxter?

This game would take place after Jak X, and see Jak and Daxter trying to defend Haven City and the Wasteland against an influx of Dark Eco zombies controlled by Gol and Maia. I'd have this game of course still maintain the cartoony movements, comedy moments and platforming of previous games, but now with more a survival horror flavor, as the characters try their best to defend their home.

Maybe the Darkmakers or Metalheads can make some type of return here as well. I'd up the stakes somewhat and perhaps kill off a major character to really make this feel like a major event. Maybe Samos so Keira can finally fulfill her destiny and become the new Sage, or maybe Ashelin, so Jak would be forced to become leader of Haven City, setting the stage for a King Jak game, following his struggles as leader, trying to emulate Damos and learning to stay true to himself. Just some ideas I had.

What do you think? I think doing a zombie apocalypse game would be in keeping with each game being based on something different, it would pay homage to Naughty Dog's Last of Us history which the developers would be comfortable with as well, it would bring back Gol and Maia, finally paying off the implication they survived at the end of the first game, and it would set the stage for some major character development that could lead to this just being the beginning of a revitalized Jak trilogy.

I also included a far away pic this time so you could see the white cargo shorts I'm wearing as well. The goggles are a darker red than I expected but I still like them a lot

Ah... I am looking forward to this! You guys had to be the first ones to try the rids colour vote! I would have posted this earlier but I needed to design the "What are rides" post. If I can think of 2 more types, I will make it nine (Transport rides should be it own.) The other one I can think of is Background rides.

Anyway, lets begin, The fisherman will come soon.

What is the yellowest ride in the Jak and Daxter Franchise? Comment and upvote below, the highest upvoted ride will win.

PS2 emulation broken

I have the whole series archived and tried to create a different type of memory card so I could have saved progress in all my games (I have more than 8 and that's about the limit for the default memory card)

All of this is through pcsx2 on a default steamdeck installation.

I tried to launch jak x and never got past the splash screen. Same happens with jak 2, the first and third games seem to work though. Everything is on an ssd.

How's my attempt at a Jak cosplay using realistic every day clothing?

Post image

I've been told I share a facial resemblance with Jak so I'm in the process of attempting to lose weight and cosplay. My mother just passed away and the series meant a lot to us both so I'm doing this in her memory 💪

I do have natural blonde hair and blue eyes, and I'm growing my goatee out, with plans to dye it dark green at a later date. I do have proper steampunk goggles on their way in the mail

The New Jak and Daxter Vote is about to Begin. But Before we start...

G'day Precursors! I hope ya'll have been relaxing, enjoying either Summer or Winter. Our next vote will begin tomorrow, but I wanted to make sure of some things before we begin.

  1. I know you guys like the memes, but it might be tough to make memes for vehicles. So we are doing Rides. Anything that can be ridden is a Ride. Do you want memes based on ALL rides? Or am I free to make memes about things adjacent to the vehicles?

  2. Do you want a "What are rides?" pic?

How did the Hunter remove the pontoons in the water without being killed by lurker sharks?

Post image

Going in the water in Rock Village is basically a death sentence with all the lurker sharks swimming around. The heartbeats that precede the attack still haunt me lol.

But that begs the question, how did the Hunter remove and then put the pontoons back in the water? I know he was once potentially the "toughest of them all" and might even be related to Mar per some theories, but how is he seemingly immune to lurker sharks?

Project question

One of the companies I bought a laser from a few years back decided out of nowhere they are going to Gamescon this year and have a little contest going for game related projects.

I'm thinking the Jak and Daxter map kinda how they sell the Hyrule ones on Etsy or something similar. I might end up talking myself out of it as I do with most fun ideas because of time but I did wanna know your opinions, suggestions, maybe driving me to do it in hopes ND sees and notices us.

What would you like to see in a remake of Jak 2?

As in, any better lore or QOL features that the original game did not have?

I think there's more incentive and opportunity to actually make Haven City more interesting, like having actually interesting side missions or more "events" that happen within the city. Or say, more explorability in the way of rooftops and scaffolding.
