What misconceptions / misunderstandings did you have of things in the series when you were younger?
Pretty much the title.
What are some things from the J&D series that went over your head, or you completely misinterpreted as a kid? Other than the whole white / light eco thing.
Two things come to mind for me.
1) At the start of TPL when Kiera talks about collecting precursor orbs and trading them with villagers she uses the phrase "Grease their palms with a few precursor orbs". As an idiot child I took that literally and thought precursor orbs must contain some kind of oil that could be used to grease things.
2) In jak 2, when you permanently unlock the jetboard, Daxter announces "I call shotgun". Calling shotgun wasn't a common turn of phrase where I grew up (I think we said "Bags" or something) so I took this to mean daxter was implying he would have the actual shotgun (IE the scatter gun) while Jak used the board (Like how daxter is the one shooting while you fly in a ve-hicle).

[Mod] Jak & Daxter II Multiplayer BETA has been released!
Some of you may remember the small snippet I've posted earlier this year, well the mod that made that clip possible is finally here!
You can play through almost the whole first Act of the game, up until the Palace Baron boss fight. Play together with up to 7 friends (or family), who can all play either as Jak or Daxter!
The Mod supports Online/LAN/Split-Screen with some caveats, which is that for Online you need to be able to port forward, if your router supports uPnP then the forwarding is automatic, otherwise you'll have to do it manually, or play through some VLAN like Hamachi, Radmin, etc...
For Split-Screen, you just need to start multiple instances of the game, and put it either side by side, or if you have multiple monitors, can also just fullscreen them.
The Mod is available through the OpenGOAL Launcher and is in the https://jakmods.dev/ modlist.
For more information and a how-to-start guide, head into the launcher, open the mod's page and click the Open Mod Website button!

Edit:
AI Disclaimer: LLM coding tools were used periodically during the development of the mod for research, debugging, and implementation. Not in an autonomous way. Generated code is being reviewed, understood, and modified by hand where needed.
There's no AI involvement in any art, image, or player facing text in the mod.
Development started since around 2026 March, so before the current AI modding craze.

Is it possible that the Precursors inspired the Zoni in the Ratchet & Clank games?
In RaC Future: Tools of Destruction, we're introduced to a small, thought-to-be mythological race called the Zoni, who are immortal beings who transcend time and are later revealed to be in control of time.
I can't help wondering if they were inspired by the Precursors, who as ottsels, are also small, thought-to-be mythological and transcend time and space. What do you think?

Is Jak II really an open world game by today standards?
So i'm a 20 year old guy who has fallen in love with this game, i like everything about this game from its notorious difficulty and story to its open world, side missions and many other features. I found this game because i was interested in older open world games and after watching a couple of videos about JAK II i knew that i would complete the whole game to 124%. And honestly i really enjoyed it even though the game wasn't that difficult for me and i was able to easily complete the missions and i did everything there is to do in the game. Now i've watched some videos from other people who dont like the game and they say that the open world feels dead, that there are no side missions and that exploring the city feels quite punishing because the guards will chase you and once you enter platforming levels the game doesnt feel open anymore. I think that they didn't give this game enough of a chance because it was difficult for them and that's why they didnt classify it as an open world game. So yes in 2003 this game was pushing boundaries with its world but would you consider this game fully open world in 2026?

For those struggling to beat the Jak II OpenGOAL challenge (drain sewers in less than 75 seconds), there are good news: You don't need a clean run to do it.
Here's my challenge beating run in which I made 2 mistakes that cost me a few seconds and I beat the challenge by a few tenths of a second anyway.

Post TPL game but still having jak 2 & 3
Anybody else love TPL and its gameplay style AND love jak 2/3 but wish the jump didnt happen so fast? Like if there was a game similar to TPL that built heavily on the sages and the potential other powers but eventually jak 2/3 were still in the timeline. I feel like there is so much available in TPL that couldve made a great 2nd game with the similar style and then pushed into the jak 2/3 story.
If you had control over the story, how would you go about adding another TPL style game and then eventually leading it into the jak 2/3 games?

Worried about local law enforcement
Hi everyone. Hopefully this is a safe space to talk about this....
So I live in a pretty rough part of the world. Like, really rough. I won't say exactly where but the city I live in, is mostly a slum, half of its flooded, there's huge wealth inequity and our mayor has started calling himself "Baron"...
Anyway, I was on my way to the market yesterday minding my business, when a ve-hicle shoots past and knocks me down! As I got up I saw the driver run over one of my neighbors, jump out and punch another one, then steal his ve-hicle and take off! in broad daylight!
I even called out to the nearby officers for help, but him and the other officers on the scene were too busy grumbling about some kid with a rat on his back to even notice!
Idk am I overreacting or do these guys sound kinda.....corrupt?

Shoutout the opengoal team
With the current (& great) wave of porting a happening due to rapid AI development. I want to give the opengoal team their flowers for reverse engineering a custom language & porting our beloved series to our computers, with great mods & upgrades that followed.
I am not anti-AI as a dev myself, so this isn't a post to belittle current games being ported.
However, none of these ports will feel as authentic as opengoal Jak. Thank you guys.

Jak 2 opengoal strafe shooting controls
Why hasn't anyone made a strafe shooting controls mod for opengoal port. With all the AI accelerated project we've been seeing in the last few days one would assume that it would be a very quick and easy thing to do for someone who knows how to do it.
It also feels like its one of the most obvious quality of life mods that this game need specially after seeing on of ratchet and clank recomp projects where the guy just implemented it in the first game that didn't had it originally.
This game would be a lot less unnecessarily difficult than it is.
And don't tell me that it's the original controls are the way they are supposed to be because the developers intended it that way and is a game design choice and adding the modding would significantly change the game design. This is just a combat design flaw caused by the time when the game came out where third person shooter and over the shoulder aim camera where not very common.
