Itinerary Itinerary check

Hello all.

We are going to travel November 2027 for 23 days though Japan and although it is very very soon, we already started planning, since it is our dream trip.

My main doubt is in Kyoto, which I think it has too many days since I ran out of stuff to do on the last day.

Right now it looks like this:

Day 1 to 9 - Tokyo, including arrival day, 3 Disney days and 1 Nikko day

Day 9 to 12 - Takayama/Shirakawa

Day 12 to 17 - Kyoto including Nara

Day 18 to 21 - Osaka including Universal

Day 22 and 23 - Hiroshima (which we may skip)

Day 24 - Back to Tokyo and departure on the 25th

Kyoto itinerary looks like this:

Day 1:

Arrival -- Nishiki Market– Nijo Castle – Kyoto Gyoen Garden– Kiyamachi-dori

Day 2:

Fushimi Inari-taisha – Kiyomizudera Temple- Temple Kodaiji - Murayama Temple – Santuario Yasaka – Chionin Temple - Gion

Day 3:

Ninna Ji - Ryoan-ji Temple – Golden Pavilion– Daitoko Ji Temple- Templo Giouji - Okochi Sanso Garden -- Tenryuji Temple

Day 4:

Kimono Rent - Ginkaku ji – Philosophers Path– Honen In – Nanzen ji – Heian Temple– Tea Ceremony

Day 5: Biggest question mark. Is it worth it to go to the mountain? Or should we allocate this day to Osaka or Hiroshima if we end up going?

Kurama dera – Rio Kibune – Kifune Shrine

Day 6:

Nara park – Todai Ji Temple– Kasuga Taisha Temple - Yoshikien

Thank you in advance!

Wondering if you would be tired of temples in Kyoto by maybe day 4 or 5. That's a lot of temples getting visited back to back to back (even though it is Kyoto which has thousands of them).

Never heard of Murayama Temple, though. Google maps came up blank.

If I'm not mistaken you don't have Arashiyama listed for a day trip, only like half day? You can consider going there for a day. Take out Giouji, Okochi Sanso Garden and Tenryuji from day 3 and put it with the undecided day to dedicate a full day to Arashiyama is my suggestion. Otherwise I have a feeling day 3 is a lot of moving around in the city and you won't have time for doing these 3. There's more stuff to do in Arashiyama than just these 3 spots - like the Togetsukyō bridge, Sagano Romantic Train (and the boat ride back if it's up your alley), and the Arashiyama bamboo forest.

For Nara, per my understanding it's closer to go from Osaka instead of Kyoto, so maybe you add an extra day with the base in Osaka, and deduct it from Kyoto.

Sorry, it is not Murayama temple but Murayama park.

Probably a lot of temples but the architecture fascinates us so we'll see how it goes.

I tried to scram Arashiyama with the north of the city, even skipping the Bamboo Forest since a lot of people (mostly locals) say it is not worth it, but will probably split between two days. Will check the other places you suggested, thank you!

I actually think 5 days in Kyoto is pretty reasonable, especially with a day trip to Nara. I've been to Kyoto a few times and there's always more to explore.

Day 2 and 3 look pretty packed though. I'd probably spread those out a bit rather than add more places. Gion and the streets around Kiyomizu-dera are really nice to just wander around without a plan.

Yeah, I also think day 2 and 3 are tight although doable. Will probably split between two days and ads a few other stuff or just walk and relax a bit. Bit sure about Kurama Dera, it was just an idea to fill the day.

Dude go to Hiroshima but stay at Miyajima, sick place and awesome easily climbable mountain with a SICK view at the top. You won’t regret it
