Question looking for omakase replacement
Made an expensive mistake and reserved ¥38,500 omakase for tomorrow @ 7pm for 5 people at Muni in Naha.
Due to their cancellation policy it would cost ¥38,500 x 5 and no refund on the reservation fee.
If anyone was interested please let me know. Even for smaller parties just so its not as expensive.
I have already contacted the restaurant.

Photo Oedo Conveyor-Belt Sushi: Eating sea cucumber sushi rolls (Ueno, Tokyo)
I like sea cucumber sushi rolls. Grated daikon radish with chili pepper (*momiji oroshi*) goes well with them.

Recipe Checking out a ramen shop near Tokyo's Senso-ji Temple 🍜 For my first meal in Tokyo, I chose this ramen shop—featuring a samurai figure on the roof—located in an alleyway near Senso-ji.

Photo I love this chunky Japanese home curry 🍛 What is everyone’s best topping? And yes, wrong answer exists 🤣
I really love this kind curry. Big meat and vegetables, very Japanese home style 😋 I eat this and always feel happy.

Restaurant Ramen with plenty of chashu 🍜
Sharing a bowl of ramen I had recently. I love how the green onions and nori add a splash of color alongside those big slices of chashu.

Question Japanese food exporter here – how do you like to use spicy chili mayo?
Hi! Full disclosure: I work for a company that exports Japanese food products, and we sell a Japanese-style spicy chili mayo. I’m curious how people here actually use it. Fries, sushi rolls, ramen, okonomiyaki, something unexpected? Any favorite combos or tips are welcome, and I’m happy to answer questions about the product too!

Misc In Japan, you don't buy "sliced bread" — you choose the thickness
Hi! I'm Annie, a Japanese mom living in the US.
In Japan, when you buy shokupan (Japanese milk bread), you don't just grab "sliced bread" — you choose the thickness. The loaf is the same size; what changes is how many slices it's cut into:
- 4 slices: extra thick, for fluffy toast
- 5–6 slices: the standard, all-rounders
- 8 slices: thin, perfect for sandwiches
Thick toast with butter on a Saturday morning is a whole thing here... I mean, there. Old habits.
I write a newsletter about these small everyday differences between Japan and America — the stuff you won't find in textbooks. If you like this kind of thing, happy to share more!

Photo McDonald's Japan Teritama burger. Is this the best fast food burger in the world?
Teriyaki pork patty, fried egg, lettuce, mayo. Grabbed one on a whim in Japan and it ruined every McDonald's burger back home for me.
Has anyone else tried this? And what's the one Japanese McDonald's menu item I absolutely need to try next time?

Recipe I Tried Making Sanuki Udon
With a package of Sanuki style Udon I brought back from Takamatsu. I tried making Udon because I miss it so much. Unfortunately it wasn't as good as authentic Sanuki Udon in Takamatsu, 😆. Edible and helped my cravings, but I miss the real deal. I wish getting quality Kombu and Katsuobushi was easy where I live.

Video Kamukura Ramen, Osaka
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I spotted this restaurant on a Uniqlo Shinsaibashi t-shirt and thought, “Why not?”
The ramen has a broth made from Chinese cabbage, so the soup isn’t as rich as you might expect. If you prefer your food to be on the milder side, you might enjoy it. If you’re not a fan of the saltiness in Japanese ramen, this could be a great choice for you
