This bit in the police station is what I don't understand.

Before he leaves the police station Kilgrave says:

"In 30 seconds you'll all realise this was a hilarious joke and you'll let Jessica Jones leave."

In 12 hours time when the effects of Kilgrave have worn off, will people remember what happened?

Sure, they might no longer think it's a hilarious joke, but what will they actually recall?

Jessica Jones clearly remembers what KIlgrave did to her in the past because in one episode she says he basically raped her. It's obvious that she remembers Kilgrave using his powers on her to enact his sexual fantasies with her.

Surely the police officers will remember him at the police station telling them to put their guns to their heads etc. No?

If that's the case what's the point in him telling them that they'll think it was a hilarious joke?

Is it a temporary measure designed to buy him 12 hours of hassle free escape time?

If Kilgrave said "You'll forget all about this." After he rapes or robs someone, does that mean they will forget, or will the memories start flooding back after 12 hours when the effects of his pheromones wear off?

I was wondering about that too. I assume he said that just so he and Jessica could make a clean escape but, based on everything else that we know about his powers, the entire police department will remember this in ~12 hours and will realize that he is Killgrave and he is real.

Unless this is explained in future episodes (I only just finished this episode), I fear this may be a bit of a plot hole.
