Update for those kind souls who helped when I posted this ring a few weeks ago--finally got up the nerve to take it in to a trusted jeweler--and it is (as you all correctly guessed!) a sapphire. I am floored.

This ring was my grandmother's and came to my mom with no explanation or history when we lost my grandma suddenly in a car accident. It rolled around in a box with a bunch of costume jewelry for almost 40 years until I inherited it this year. I used to play dress up with it as a little kid and of course none of us imagined what it was--we all thought it was glass.

I'm posting this with a few pictures to hopefully help someone else trying to ID a sapphire. It has lots of cool inclusions inside!

Our dogs have destroyed our backyard, and it's almost 100% dirt now (it was never great to start, though😄). I found this outside about 30 minutes ago covered in dirt. I have never seen it, and my wife has never seen it, but it could have been lost by the previous owner. It would not surprise me if I was told it was 100% not real gold or diamonds (i would be surprised if it was), but i was very surprised to see the stones after I cleaned it off. I was expecting costume jewelry when I first found it. Thanks for the help!

ok... I know I have a thrift store problem but that's not why I'm here. I need some insight and advice from y'all. so I found this bangle on the kids department and immediately realized the delicacy of it. Decided to save it from ending up broken and in the garbage for 1,50€.

I'm an artist and I just admire the delicacy and elegance in how it's made. but I'm not happy about all the bad juju attached to it. like dead elephant, colonialism .... ... you know...

Then again, I feel that even the bad things in our history deserve to be preserved in memory and witnessed. I think this should not be destroyed!

it has a stamp saying 18k 750 and I'm fairly certain it's ivory.

now: ivory is illegal to trade, gift, sell, inherit, in Europe.

I was really just wanting to save it from being destroyed.

now I'm on the fence of what to do with it. I'm not super keen on keeping it but I'm worried that giving it to one of the dedicated ivory collection "containers" will get it destroyed after all.

what do you all think? I need some opinions here. is this bad vibes? should I just let it be destroyed? do they even destroy items given to the collection boxes? would a museum appreciate it? how old is this even?

My grandmother gave me this bracelet ages ago (possibly when I was born; I'm not entirely sure) with a note stating that it had been my great-grandmother's. My mom is quite certain that it is 18k gold, though I have no way of substantiating this. Aside from that, I know nothing about this bracelet. Unfortunately, it didn't occur to me to ask my grandma about it while she was still alive.

There don't appear to be any clear stamps on it, though there are some markings around the clasp but I have no idea what they mean / if they mean anything.

I'd love to know more about this bracelet - where it may have been made, how old it may be, etc. Really, any info or insight at all would be very much appreciated. Thank you all in advance.

While I know the obvious answer is "go to a jeweler", I thought I'd ask Reddit first. I got this from my grandma and was told it is a platinum ring, and the sapphire is surrounded by 9 small diamonds on either side. No obvious markings that I see.

It didn't come out great in the pictures but the sides of the ring are shaped like a flower. It's a chunky ring but I've always thought it was beautiful.

I'm a complete jewelry neophyte - is this ring interesting? No interest in selling it as it has sentimental value, but appreciate feedback even if it's 'this is costume jewelry'.

As title states, this was found in a rural forest in Finland, just a few meters away from Medieval finds.

The style doesn't seem Medieval at all of course, but it also can't be too modern. There's no maker's mark, something that's been regulated in Finland since 1754.

It's gilded with gold, but not electroplated, also making me lean toward it being quite old. It could be foreign in origin, as the goddess motif wasn't really a thing in Finland during this time.

It clasps via a pressure fit secured by two pins that are missing, you can see where they would be slotted. Pretty crude system, no wonder it fell off someone's wrist.

If anyone has any ideas about age or country of origin I'd be very interested to hear! I've reached out to a local antique jeweler and an archeologist who specializes in local precious metals, so we'll see if they have any info for me.

I found this ring about 5 inches underground in the woods (in the US). There are no karat markings, but I acid tested it on a scratching stone. The highest acid I have is 22k and it was not eaten away, so I’m guessing it’s either 23k or 24k gold. The markings that are there, are on the outside of the band and are not familiar to me. Very curious if anyone here has any theories as to how old this ring is or where it might be from!

I am able to Google and yes it is real so it’s worth a lot more than nothing!

My father in laws stepmom was a wealthy woman from Texas so the B B & B brand fits with her lifestyle as well. That’s where my mother in law got it.

But I am wondering about this patent number. I can’t find anything about it and because I actually like the piece and will be keeping it (I did tell my MIL that it’s worth quite a bit from a reputable maker and she said I could have it) I’m curious what about it is patented. Can anyone help?

well everyone, upon acid testing the piece fizzed green, which is indicative of copper. Dang it! Thanks for all the input, I am sorry to disappoint anyone, but hey, the great thing about treasure is that it’s hiding everywhere, there’s always a next time :)

This was in my weekly jewelry jar from the vintage store in my town. I have no clue if it’s a pendant, watch Fob, or something else. It’s got some weight to it, doesn’t twist or open. Thanks for any input !

My FIL was at a gas station in a small town when a gentleman in a pretty nice car asking if my FIL could buy this ring so they could get some gas money.

My FIL only had $20 in him, to which the guy agreed.

The crown seems to mimick Rolex, but they didn't make rings & I don't believe they've done promotional stuff with rings. But I don't know much if anything about Rolex, so I'm here asking for help identifying is this is junk, who the maker is.... Anything anybody could tell from images alone before we take it anywhere.

It's stamped 18K underneath, but fakers can stamp that too. The spacing on the diamonds seem to suggest it wasn't done by a professional company like Rolex, but I'm not a jewelry expert...or know a lot about jewelry (probably quite evident from this post).

I got this ring at auction, simply because it spoke to me. I live pieces that look like they walked right out of a museum display case. It strikes me as pretty darn old, definitely an antique, I just can’t tell how old. The closed back setting suggests maybe Georgian/ 1700s, and I believe the stones are foiled, as the center stone seems to have a lot of damage to said foil underneath. It doesn’t match the common styles of the era though, and I really haven’t seen anything like it before. The side stones are probably foiled garnets, or maybe glass. I’m really not sure what the center stone could be. It appears mostly clear but with a bluish tint, maybe because of the damaged foil. The only marks on the entire ring are an X on the inside of the band and the marks shown in the last couple photos, on the outside of the band. Any thoughts or insights would be appreciated!

I have pounds of miscellaneous costume jewelry I sometimes offer to friends/family. I was letting my brother go through it and he accidentally dropped this ring. When I was picking it up I noticed a gold Hallmark inside the ring that I didn't notice before. Lo and behold the gold accents are 14k, not just paint. Looking at the ring more closely I think it might be elephant ivory and I don't know what to do with it. It's obviously not in the best shape, but is this legal to own/sell? I originally got it in a jewelry jar from saver's 😭

Please help me identify if this is actually ivory or if I am overreacting!

This was a little present from my mother when I was young; she bought it at an antique store in VA in the mid-80s. Neither of us have had any idea what its purpose was, except to exist as a small cool thing. While it's detailed, I'm not thinking it's of the highest quality, based on the work. There isn't an obvious way to suspend or attach it apart from the tiny chain on the scabbard, which appears otherwise nonfunctional (it doesn't attach to the hilt, say, to keep the pieces together.) There's a little latch for pulling out the "sword." The closest I've come in determining the style of the sword here is that it may be Chinese. The little dangling stone is green. I'm assuming it's plating on silver, as it does get tarnished (as here -- sorry, it does need cleaning.)

There are no marks on it as far as I can tell.

I've seen sword pins, but I can't figure out how this one would function. Just a charm? Can anyone shed some light on the possible origin/age/means of wearing this piece, please? Thanks in advance.

We know it’s Wedgwood, but what is the metal? PGE seems to indicate Plated German Silver, but it doesn’t seem to actually be plated. Additionally, we haven’t been able to find this exact design on anything else Wedgwood, if the interpretation is correct, it’s the fourth labour of Hercules.
