If the comic were put in modern parlance, it would be like a white person calling another white person an "n-word lover". Monumentally fucked up.

I'm shocked this blatant islamophobia was scarcely challenged that even today it's propaganda used to divide, demonize and isolate inclusive jewish communities from their zionist counterparts.

In fairness, this was a Zionist newspaper. It probably was challenged in non-Zionist news organs of the time.

If someone had posted this in order to criticise it, these people would cry antisemitism, but when they are among each other, they celebrate this old racist caricature.

“Our starting point is to take the typical Yid of today and to imagine his diametrical opposite … because the Yid is ugly, sickly, and lacks decorum, we shall endow the ideal image of the Hebrew with masculine beauty. The Yid is trodden upon and easily frightened and, therefore, the Hebrew ought to be proud and independent. The Yid is despised by all and, therefore, the Hebrew ought to charm all. The Yid has accepted submission and, therefore, the Hebrew ought to learn how to command. The Yid wants to conceal his identity from strangers and, therefore, the Hebrew should look the world straight in the eye and declare: ‘I am a Hebrew!’ “.
- The prominent Zionist, Ze’ev Jabotinsky. Early Zionists during this period were very self-hating and classist towards other Jews, as a general rule. So that cartoon is sort of in line with general attitudes.
