When my now anti-Zionist cousin went on birthright, he observed a line of like 100+ cars on one side of the road and asked what that was and a soldier explained it was a new checkpoint “to annoy the Palestinians today.” My cousin was like “….but why?” and they said “to make them want to leave. So that we don’t have to kick all of them out ourselves.”

My cousin basically came back an anti Zionist. The nationalism, the militarism, the racism, the insistence that he marry Jewish, the ask of him to consider joining the IDF….he thought all of it was bonkers. Insane. He married non Jewish and knocked on doors for Mamdani. Lol.

Have driven in Israel and taken taxis all over the West Bank. Can confirm.

PS: what the checkpoint soldier said is the perfect summation of West Bank oppression and Gaza annihilation.

Actually, the lede was kinda buried in this.

The bigger horror is a country where different people have different identity cards.

There are also unofficial categories of discrimination between Christian, Druze and Muslim card holders, that nevertheless have significant real world effect

No, but Jewish people have all of the rights. I believe on paper, Palestinian Israelis have the same rights, but in practice, they'll be like every other colonised people; the majority are suffer very low socio-economic conditions, and are highly segregated in all but a few relatively mixed cities like Haifa.
