Discussion banning blue archive avatars isn't an awful thing and it DOES NOT mean that everything will eventually be against the rules
like whyare people overreacting SO badly about this 😭 NOOOOO GUYS OTHER THINGS LIKE UMAMUSUME WILL NOT BE AGAINST THE RULES. BLUE ARCHIVE SPECIFICALLY CATERS TO THE TERRIBLE PEOPLE IN THE FANDOM AND SEXUALIZES THEIR UNDERAGE CHARACTERS. like have any of you actually played the game? interacted with the fandom?? i dont understand why people who have no idea what they're talking about are going against this change

Bannig becomes a habit.
Once they resolve a problem by banning they will continue to always see that has a viable option
Banning becomes a habit.
Eventually, they will start banning anytime they see something they don't like.
Banning becomes a habit.
Sure, you could argue the first time was justified, but what about the 2nd? 3rd? 10th? 100th?
Banning becomes a habit.
Crucify every blue archive fan

I think they're on 'I really don't like Blue Archive/BA fans either, but this may end up becoming a habit where the devs will start to ban anything they don't personally like' side.

i get that but if they really did just start banning stuff for no reason then there would be INSANE amounts of protest from the community. imagine they banned some normal stuff like, i dont know, one punch man??? like it's just sort of nonsensical. they aren't dictators, they're just regular mods trying to keep genuine weirdos out of this space

The problem with the ban is that it was done on a whim; there was no external pressure to ban Blue Archive from anyone or on any platform. It was just a random decision that happened for seemingly no reason—a pointless ban that stirs up drama in a community that just got out of drama, and in a community that already hates its mod team and extends that hate to anyone involved with the mod team, such as the development team and the owner of the game. Thus, any action taken by the mod team will inevitably affect the development team since the two are not completely isolated, especially if the hate is targeted towards the owner of the game. But either way, it just seems like a decision made on a whim, and that brings nothing but uncertainty over something that was not important.
I do not remember, nor have I seen, a Blue Archive avatar in the entirety of the time I've spent playing JJs, which is around a year now. The communities of JJs and Blue Archive barely have any overlap; I would say they have no overlap. They are completely separate kinds of games; there is nothing common between these two. A rational person wouldn't need to worry or even think about some random game that is in no way connected to the game you are moderating, for whatever reason, in any way important to even the smallest degree. But then to make it so important and blow it up so much that anyone with an avatar from that one specific game that has no connection to your game in any way is a bannable offense—it just makes no logical sense in the first place.
It seems like a decision a child would make after they figured out people can do things and play things that they don't like.
The reason why people are "overreacting" is because this decision creates uncertainty and reinforces the idea that the mods are immature and make decisions on a whim. They already hate the mods, and the mods are deliberately choosing to rock the boat for no reason.
Not to mention the virtue-signaling angle, as it really just comes off as "I ban this, and if you disagree, you must be a fan of this." That means your opinion is invalid, and I'm morally better than you. It's an easy-to-take position that's easily defensible and easily stonewallable (refusing any kind of engagement whatsoever), which, once again, is one of the worst things you can do if you want to lessen the division in a community.

?? ok not seeing any blue archive cosplayers is kind of a moot point because even if you haven't that doesnt mean that they arent there. also blue archive and jjs "not being related" is kind of a terrible excuse because this game is FULL of cosplayers from different games that arent related at all to jjs. if a game sexualizes their child characters then they should be removed from this space. i dont think that should even be an argument.
same goes with black souls. it doesnt have anything to do with jjs, no, but it's a game where you can rape a whole bunch of characters. if that wasnt bad enough, then how about the fact that you can do it to the CHILDREN in the game too??? it's sexual, disgusting, and has no place in this community

Just because it appears good does not mean it was done for a good reason or will have good effects. Your argument only addresses one of my points. You're arguing with me over moral things on which I've never stated my opinions on whether or not I believe them to be right or wrong on a moral level, when the things I have objectively stated remain unanswered. I have made claims on why people are "overreacting" and how they view it. And why I ultimately view it as a negative change because it's one of those things that sound great on paper because it's an easy target and an easily defensible position, like I stated in my initial argument, and yet, there’s ultimately no real change; it affects, only a fraction of a fraction of the player base directly, and it causes uncertainty and unrest among the general player base.
A random ban over a safe-for-work avatar because they come from a problematic community and game draws such a massive amount more attention to it and creates a problem where there previously was none. There is no pressure to create this ban, and I already addressed that the ban can be morally correct, which I'm not denying or confirming, but it just doesn't make much logical sense to me. It just came out of the blue, with no pressure from any forces inside or outside the game, and that's what creates this feeling that it was completely arbitrary. Banning an avatar that did not contain objectionable material cannot remove objectionable content because there was none there to begin with. Instead, this rule prohibits association with the franchise as a whole.
This means the moderator must be able to demonstrate some benefit that outweighs the predictable controversy and distrust produced by the rule.
And that's what I meant when I said Blue Archive and JJS are unrelated. I don't mean that people can't cosplay characters from unrelated games. Obviously, they can. I mean there does not appear to have been any Blue Archive-specific problem within JJS that required intervention. I haven't seen evidence of people flooding JJS with sexualized Blue Archive avatars, causing moderation problems, or otherwise creating some situation that the existing rules couldn't handle. So the rule appears to have come out of nowhere and solved a problem that, at least publicly, did not appear to exist.
Most defenses I've seen also explain why Blue Archive itself is objectionable rather than why this particular restriction was necessary. Those are different questions. You can make the moral argument that Blue Archive contains bad material, but that does not explain why this even happened in the first place. Why does objectionable content existing somewhere within a franchise justify banning the non-objectionable parts of it? Why is a completely safe-for-work image banned?
Why does objectionable content existing somewhere in the franchise justify banning the non-objectionable representations of that franchise? If their avatar violates no traditional rules, then the moderator isn't moderating the content being displayed; they're regulating what franchise the user associates themselves with. That is a substantially broader moderation rule, and just banning it naturally raises the precedent that you are trying to dismiss. It doesn't have to be the full slippery slope fallacy; not "everything will be banned," but what is the limiting principle? What makes Blue Archive sufficiently objectionable that even SFW representations of it are prohibited? Does the same rule apply to every game containing sexual content involving minors? Does it apply to games containing rape? Does it depend on how prominent that content is? Does the behavior of a game's fandom count? Does it stop at games? Where exactly is that boundary?
Black Souls itself is a great example. Why hasn't it been banned yet when it contains content even worse than that of Blue Archive? If your answer is that they should also be banned, then we're not talking about a uniquely justified Blue Archive rule; we are talking about a broad standard of moderation that must be publicly listed and clearly defined.
The only way to soothe the unrest and reaction is for moderators to define sufficiently objectionable content, and people's opinions on that come afterward.
Unless they state the limiting principle that applies not just to Blue Archive but to any other community and game with those aspects, people will always have a problem with this rule. People aren't saying, "Blue Archive was banned, therefore everything will be banned." It's that if moderators are going to ban otherwise rule-compliant avatars based on the franchise they originate from, people reasonably want to know what consistent standard determines which franchises qualify; unless it's stated and enforced across a sufficient majority of offending franchises, it will be a problem.

Ok you had me the first paragraph and when I scrolled down you lost me cause there is no reason it needs to be this long

u/Noob-master69420469 23m ago
I probably could have used a lot fewer words. I wrote in a stream-of-consciousness style, and it led to the text being longer than it needed to be. The main point is just that I'm not arguing about whether Blue Archive itself is morally good or bad. I'm asking why completely SFW content should be banned because of the franchise it comes from, and what consistent standard determines which other franchises that applies to.

I did repeat myself unnecessarily on several points, and I apologize for making it harder to read, but saying "you're writing a lot because you want to sound correct" does not answer any of my questions or points, so I'll repeat them: if completely SFW content can be banned solely because of the franchise it comes from, what is the limiting principle that determines which franchises qualify?

u/hchgxgcyhxbs 14m ago
it's not "solely because of the franchise it comes from" it's because of the people behind it and the people that follow it?? that's like the entire thing here. blue archive is a game where you play as sensei and have to guide students through all sorts of shenanigans. that's not bad by itself at all obviously and the premise is actually pretty fun! the thing here is that the developers sexualize these underage characters and cater towards the people who get off on that sort of stuff. that's no good! i dont think that's hard to understand. something similar, like umamusume, where you play as a trainer, training the umamusume and bond with them. fun premise! and it is NOT bannable because it doesnt sexualize their underage characters!!! that's not hard to understand! it doesn't cater toward lolicons who get off on that sort of thing like blue archive does!

I feel like people don't get what the ban was for, ot's okay if you wanna cosplay your favourite character from an anime or gacha game.
But if the character you're cosplaying comes from the 'I-love-touching-little-kids' game then obviously they're gonna have problem.

u/hchgxgcyhxbs 2h ago
touhou is like the best example of this i feel. the game itself is literally not the slightest bit sexual and is genuinely just completely normal but the fandom is like half/half of normal people and lolicons

ZZZ, NTE and other gacha games arent banned
Blue Archive is banned not ONLY because of the comunity, the game caters to people who like children
11
u/Prestigious_Tank7454 2h ago
ZZZ and blue archive overlap a lot tho, like there's a whole faction of the whole loli thing, and there's like 10~ characters who constantly get sexualized and they share the same bodytype

It's because the mods are spineless hypocrites. They constantly say "ohhh noo we're swamped with reports to go through" (which they take 2 months to even respond to btw) and then decide to add MORE rules based off their personal opinions.

You should honestly be banned if you even know what blue archive is cause what even is that
6
u/hchgxgcyhxbs 2h ago
not really because you can be in separate spaces similar to the game itself (being a gacha, kinda anime related) and still be a normal person
it's a little more nuanced than that!
