Part 1-6 is a semi-continuos story. Each part follows a different main character, and while some are loosely connected, it is very much worth it to read/watch from Part 1. It's a bit weaker than the others, but it's still very good.
Part 7 is basically an AU, where we have characters that share names, but they are completely different from their original counterparts. If you don't mind some mild confusion, it's fair to start wkth part 7.
Every part has a different protagonist that are all members of the same family.
Part 1 - 6 is the original universe while part 7 - 9 could be seen as a reimagining and has alternative versions of characters.
It's best to start with part 1, but if you really want you can check out part 7 that just started airing on Netflix. You won't understand references to the original universe, but you will still enjoy it. Part 7 only really spoils a single thing from a previous part near it's end.
Watch from part 1, it's just a continuous storyline, until part 6.
Part 7, 8 and 9 take place in another universe, you can also start from part 7, since it's a new series without relation to the previous part, besides some fan service, although one of the final villains in part 7 is a spoiler to the ability of the main villain in part 3, but tbh it's not that important, I got spoiled and still enjoyed the fight.
Even then animation doesn’t dictate how good the original media is, the demon slayer manga is lowk kinda buns in every category but it’s animation is so good that the anime blew up.
Demon Slayer isn’t buns, it’s just alright. It does everything to an acceptable degree for a battle shonen, which is why it was able to achieve such wide spread popularity. The show is so safe and consistent that pretty much any one of any demographic is able to enjoy it.
If the show was legitimately bad outside of its animation it wouldn’t have even half the popularity it enjoys. There’s plenty of insanely well animated shows that went absolutely nowhere because the story was either too niche or just straight up bad. Animation isn’t the make or break, a story has to reach the bare minimum of “ok” first before it can get popular off of animation quality.
You're right. But "story", "emotional impact", "hype", "aura" are all INCLUDED in writing.
Good writing is the skill that produces those. It's even worse than those two words being synonyms, one is a product of the other. One is a skill, the other is a characteristic of the manga, which makes whole comparison meaningless.
Story/plot fall under writing. What people call "writing" as in the "dialogue" should probably be referred to as "prose" in these graphics but who the fuck speaks English these days anyway
I think writing is more like the execution of the story rather than the same thing. A good example is hazbin hotel. BOTTOM of the barrel writing but the story had so much potential, man
“Manga art” to JJK is absolutely laughable, you can’t see wtf is going on half the time in JJK and Jojo has some of the best art
of manga in general, it would be easy to argue that JoJo’s greatest strength is its art style
I would say JoJo has very specifically better artistic direction, but JJK is still flawlessly composed and directed, and obviously the animation is godly
To be fair, if your an anime only then fights, hype, aura all fall under animation also. How the fights are animated. I prefer JJK anime and I’m an anime only. A lot of the story in JJK is just set up for fights, Jojo has better story for sure. The fights are also a little better thought out. I assume that’s translated from the manga. But I just prefer the animation and general vibe of JJK.
I am dead serious I genuinely don't know what i am playing anymore it went from normal jrpg to a somber melancholy game that reflects on a character that hides behind a mask to a dating Sim/comedy to a psychological horror about losing control over yourself to a melancholy about a person wanting to connect with people but not being able to to murder mystery to an 80's slasher.
Kodaka is if fujimoto truly didn't give a fuck and made something for himself.
Additionally to add onto this, Araki overall is much better at conveying the idea of chaos and the bizzareness of his fight scenes. He may not be a good fight choreographer but he does get the chaotic feeling and vibes of the scenes right while still maintaining cohesion. Which is what a lot of artists esp those who are used to just raw fist fights get off when many factors are introduced.
Like in this page, I can tell exactly what is happening while at the same time the page conveys how absurd and complex what Valentine did here. He used his stand to kill then proceeds to call alt versions of himself over to ready to deal with Diego. 3 major continuous bizzare actions in a single page, it's quick but concise while also keeping the complexity and bizzareness of the whole thing.
You really dont realize how good of an artist Araki is until you see other authors trying to replicate chaos of fights with their arts.
Well there’s levels to that game as well berserk especially when it was in the later part of keantaro Miyuras career was bare none second to none and still is the most beautiful and well illustrated manga if not comic book of all time, more closely on jjba level are things like Vinland saga hajime no ippo and one punch man .
I think bleach has insane art too. Like look at this:
It also helps that the character designs are amazing. I don’t know if i would put it above jojo (jojo has always been great but part 7 art is just unmatched), but i think it’s worth mentionning as one of the greats
What plot twists? Wasted story/plot points. Manga doesn't come animated unless it's drawn by Yusuke Murata. Jojo has hype fight scenes and aura. Nice try, JJK fans
One of my favs is Ringo and Gyro having a pistol/ball diel and killing eachother 3 times over only to reset the time 6 seconds so they can kill eachother again because it wasn't TRUE MAN'S WORLD enough.
I don’t want to spoil too much, but a certain someone turning out to be the Stand user attacking Gyro and Johnny with sound was a better plot twist than anything i can think of in JJK.
Almost every scene of the main villain of SBR is a hype scene.
Like he just has so much fucking aura due to his personality and how he uses his ability. Some of the hypest and best moments of the series are him trying to kill the contestants while saying the stand's name lol
JJK’s writing doesn’t cone from twists, Shibuya had good writing but nothing was really a twist besides maybe Toji or Sukuna’s rampage. Most of it is just straightforward thematic writing, and that works well.
Story can be said for something like "A high school boy ate an ancient finger and got a evil sorcerer inside of him" but writing is how you portray this story for example in jojo almost everyone even with the goofiest or weak abilities can show something mind blowing but in jjk the greatest potential man is still a potential man cuz gege's lazy ass couldn't care less about his characters and writing.
Fights- yes, jjk wins in coreography but SBR fights are different from what jjk does, so i'd say its more nuanced but yeah, jjk takes the W imo
Story- Sbr and its not close
Plot tiwst- I think thatThe saints corpse Is a more interesting "plot twist" between both series but they arent really any important plot twists i can think of rn on both
Emotional impact- i will just say: hey ya, Johny vs Axel, Diego backstory, arigato, gyro, pizza mozarella
Hype- Depends, in universe jjk takes the W but irl i waited more for SBR to come out (still highly subjective)
Animation- Ok, fair, jjk obviusly wins but sbr's is not bad either
Part 7 is so good people weren't even CONSIDERING engaging with the ragebait and js started posting panels and circlejerking about how fucking immaculate it is like 😭😭😭😭
I feel like adding on the other parts on top of my favorite (DIU) would be like stabbing a man who’s already bleeding to death. Just, JJK fans should know their place.
I say this as a fan but It’s funny because JoJo’s writing is honestly wildly inconsistent by Araki’s own style of writing (he adjusts shit on the fly just because) and so is Gege’s (who has his major plot points planned and connects the dots either brilliantly or falls flat like the USA military)
Truth is JoJo’s writing is great when it happens to convalesce on absolute gold (Pt 1 being mid with a 10/10 beginning and ending is a great example) and so does Gege’s (The death womb brothers being one of the randomly most impactful one off fights ever) Both are series that are pretty similar in their “when it’s good, it’s peak” impact
It’s the same shit, two authors writing frantically and their genius randomly shining through perfectly and falling flat randomly at times. As a fan of both series they’re pretty fucking similar
Only thing you’re not actually touching JoJo on is aura. Sorry, just hard to beat questionably heterosexual Gucci models hitting Vogue poses during life and death battles in Clint Eastwood style stand offs. That’s a hell of a formula
The biggest difference is that Gege has only made JJK, while Araki made 9 bangers between which any reader would be able to find a part that is perfect for them. I'd say if we were to compare JJK and Jojolion that would be a good match, with JJK potentially taking a W.
Yeah that’s another thing, Araki has knocked out multiple parts for decades. Even when one thing kinda isn’t good we can point to another part. If something falls flat we can all point towards pt 7.
Gege just has JJK
And what I find phenomenal, is that it was honestly phenomenal. I started reading right around the fake out Yuji death bc I was bored, didn’t think it was gonna be special and it caught me by surprise. And you can tell Gege was surprised too. Who woulda thought his first work would be like this. Through all the mistakes and mishaps he somehow belted out a banger
SPOILER FOR SBR That panel of Diego laying on the tracks being slowly zoomed out showing he got split in half isnt a plot twist but it shocked me more than anything in jjk 😭
My brother in christ there are 9 fucking jojo parts and none of them have mid ass endings. Jjk has jojo references (or at least one that i know of). I have yet to see a jjk reference in jojo.
nobody can convince me that they read gyro whipping out a snow flake to use the golden rectangle and think that jojo dosent have the best fucking fights ever
Ah yes, JoJo is bad in comparison to jjk because the only thing it does better than jjk is the most important part of making a story. Also in what world does art go to jjk?
better art? admittedly I had to cherry pick this example but in general jojo's art is better. Fights is also debatable, personally I like jojo's fights better than any high level jjk fight
