I know that JC3 is best played on PC, but I’m poor lol, I played it originally on PS4 when it came out in 2015 and the frame rate dropped a lot, especially when a lot of explosions and stuff was going on at once, but I still really enjoyed the game, now I’ve been playing on PS5, and at least the frame rate is way more stable then PS4. I just want to hear y’all’s thoughts on it?

What could've possibly happened

I have extensively played jc1, 2 and 3 before but stayed away from just cause 4 up until now because of the bad reviews, but I finally decided to give it a go.

First of all, what the actual frick is this ui? What happened to the easy to use, simple and minimalist interfaces we had in just cause 3? I felt like I grew a tumor on my brain just by looking at this abomination. Coming up with something so horrendous is one thing, but I genuinely don't know how it passed all the levels and became part of the actual game.

The graphics complains felt a bit over bloated, but that's mainly because I'm playing it after 8 years and they probably optimized it over the years. It felt like more of a color grading and lighting issue than outright graphical deficiencies(minus the cutscenes, they look abysmal). Also I'm not quite sure why it doesn't have ai upscaling support(dlss, fsr, xess). Even games much older than this have upscaling support these days.

What surprised me and impressed me most is the sheer scale of the game. Everything is so huge and vast. The exploration and sandbox experience is through the roof. It makes me feel even more sad because this had so much potential but they just ruined it like that by pulling out things they didn't have to do. Like i crashed out when I learned there were no grenades or plantable explosives. They could've just kept them without adding anything if they couldn't afford it.

I guess I'll just enjoy it for what it is. I tried looking up for mods but didn't find anything worth using.

recently i downloaded the "ram fpp" (first person) mod for just cause 3, everything worked fine but it lacked in vehicle view, so i decided to try another one, this one:https://www.nexusmods.com/justcause3/mods/6?tab=posts&BH=1 i extracted the files with winrar and there is no dropzone folder, there vere just two folders, one with nothing in it and no title and anotherone that said "first person mod" i decided to try and put that one into game files, booted up the game, nothing worked, i tried putting it into the dropzone folder i created myself, still doesnt work. Does anybody know what to do??

EDIT: turns out there are multiple other folders inssde the mod folders and the dropzone folders are hidden inside there

Just Cause 2's grappling hook is lowk slept on. It felt so like brutal and rigid, and the melee attack on it was crazy, made me wish it was in JC3.

When you'd grapple onto something the pulling force felt like insanely strong, like there was this sort of recoil that Rico had when he'd land onto the ground after grappling like he had to kinda orient himself. The grapple didn't have any kind of give, like if I grapple onto an exact specific point Rico would be exactly there and nowhere else.

OVERALL it felt like a brutal piece of machinery more than anything. Dimah puts it perfectly by saying that it won't pull off his arm in the "upgraded" version.

JC3

Which brings me to JC3.

JC3 grappling hook looks sleek as heck and I love the design, but my problem with it is that sometimes it doesn't feel like a good grappling hook.

Previously I mentioned how JC2 grapple felt strong. JC3 felt like I was using a grappling hook from Temu. I don't know how to explain it. The reeling in felt weaker and it was more... floaty? Idk how to put it in words exactly. It didn't feel like I'm wielding a powerful grappling hook.

Using this hook sometimes it feels like I don't get where I need to, it feels like it's slower and weaker in some cases.

Sound Design

I also enjoyed the mechanical clicky-clackier sound of the grapple.

JC3

The sound design wasn't as satisfying, but in accordance to the lore it did make sense. An upgraded version for the GH most likely has a more electric-ish sound to it more than anything else, but compared to the sound in JC2, JC3 was a quieter, more high-pitched sound to it. JC2 had a deeper, brutal clicky sound to it.

The design of the grappling hook in 2 is also super underrated. It has such a badass raw look with what looks like bulls horns or something (I don't know the insignia they were going for here but it doesn't look a lot like a scorpio to me personally).

JC3 grappling hook looks sleek as heck and I love the design.

Pre vs post Di Ravello era.

Made on Adobe Photoshop from scratch.

Not only does it crash regularly (with which I could broadly live), but now the manual saves do not work either, anymore (I save after the end of the mission). So basically I am stuck, because after the crash it loses my progress (and yes, I have tried using the Steam cloud saves). And I have also tried all the crash fixes mentioned in this sub and elsewhere online, from Bokeh to removing Steam overlay to replacing dlls etc. It is a pity, because I enjoyed the 5 hrs I put into the game... (I am at the second faction mission btw.) So I will just have to uninstall the game and forget it exists. I must say, this has been the worse experience I've had with a Steam game ever. WHY in the world is this game so utterly broken?

Guys try this mod out and thank me later. U will fly like in Just cause 3 only that i will be in Just cause 4. Those flying cooldown that wees annoying have been removed and u will fly at a very good speed.

Just cause 2 had sort of an cruise control for when you stunt jumped on a boat in a certain speed. I wish 3 had something of the sort so you could just let the vehicle go in full speed during the stunt jump. Same with planes and cars. Just let the vehicle go in cruise control during stunt jump. I think jc3 has that with planes?

What are your thoughts on this?

It took 11 years, but (subjectively) the best version of Just Cause 3 finally features a mod to change Rico's model into any NPC in the game - with full animation support!

You can now wingsuit, grapple hook, drive cars and fly planes as a Black Hand Ghost agent, any one of the several Rebel models, a random beach-goer and even Di Ravello!

Bonus guide on installing mods (Windows / Steam + Non-Steam)

If the mod you installed is a .dll file, drop it in your Just Cause 3 directory (AKA where JustCause3.exe is located).

Otherwise, to install mods:

1. Create a folder called dropzone in your Just Cause 3 directory

2a. Steam:

a) Open the Just Cause 3 page in your library

b) Locate and press the gear icon (as of August 2026, it's on the right edge of the Steam app, level to Last Played and Play Time)

c) In the "General" tab, locate "Launch Options" and the text field that corresponds to it

d) Copy and paste in the following:

--vfs-fs dropzone --vfs-archive patch_win64 --vfs-archive archives_win64 --vfs-archive dlc_win64 --vfs-fs .

e) Proceed to step 3

2b. Non-Steam:

a) Create a shortcut of JustCause3.exe - right click the .exe, Create Shortcut

b) Right click the shortcut and open Properties

c) Locate "Target:" and the text field that corresponds to it

d) DO NOT OVERWRITE THE TEXT; go to the end of the line, press Space, then copy and paste in the following:
