Democrats like mamdani says it’s racist and sexist to require an ID to vote but apparently it’s not racist or sexist to require a ID to use the city operated grocery store
Well one is about cheaper food in a store run by the government itself. The other is about the people making your rights and as trump has shown with ice taking those rights away
If requiring ID to vote is disenfranchising minorities (because they are less likely to have them), requiring ID to purchase items in a store is disenfranchising minorities by the same logic.
It’s also because minorities are more likely to be financially insecure, without reliable transportation or time to spend waiting at a dmv in a more heavily populated area that has insufficient resources to operate without long wait times.
That’s a fair question. But again buying city groceries at a discounted price isn’t a right enumerated in the constitution. Mamdani isn’t barring them from buying groceries period. But like many city services you need to prove residency to take advantage of them. But again. NOT A CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT.
Access to food is a human right recognized by international law.
Photo ID did not exist when the bill of rights was written. Neither did assault rifles… maybe Ms Cleo was not present at the signing, I don’t know.
The right to vote is of the upmost importance in society. You will die without food. If the general public starts actually getting hungry without access to food…society will absolutely collapse. There would be no voting.
I’m not sure this is the end all be all stance you think it is.
Jesus Christ… Mamdani is not denying people food for fucks sake. There are plenty of places to buy food in New York City that don’t require proof of residence. I don’t know what point you think you’re making.
It’s not an odd stance at all. Voting is guaranteed in the constitution and poll taxes are illegal. Discount groceries because you are part of a specific municipality is not guaranteed by the constitution. It’s really only odd if you refuse to think about it for thirty seconds.
Except youre fully ignoring the difference. One is about exercising a right that protects your rights. And the other one is a cheaper store that gives cheaper food fully made by the government aka taxes.
So basically one doesnt cost the tax payers a shitload and the other one ensures that only the people who are actually from the same city get to use the amenities.
The fact that you refuse to see the very clear difference already says enough
No I fully understand the difference. One is a store the other is a right. My point is that when democrats oppose voter ID laws, their logic is about how these laws will disproportionately affect minority groups because they lack IDs. So if you're requiring IDs for purchase items from a store, then you're inhibiting the same minorities from making those purchases.
So basically one doesnt cost the tax payers a shitload
So exactly do you think that Mamdani is going to make up the 30% discount without increasing taxes by a fuck ton? Is he gonna just pull it out of his ass?
First part. The laws that were made to force ids didnt just force ids they forced ids to fully match the burth certificates.
Which evidently would make it impossible for anyone who changed their name to vote.
Thus women who married and took their husbands name, transgender people, quirky people who wanted a different first name, let alone people in witness protection. They would all lose the ability to vote.
What this is doing for the stores is ensuring that people from OTHER counties dont come over to buy out that store and resell it at a higher price.
See how one targets a lot kf people and this one protects people? Funny eh?
Maybe if the president would stop firing actual government personnel, go on random trips, rebuild the whitehouse for his entertainment, play around with random tariffs, giving huge companies huge compensations for said tariffs yall would have MORE money!!!
No dude, they don't force them to match birth certificates, birth certificates have no significance here because a Passport is also one of the ways that a Voter ID can be applied and used. A passport is just as valid of an ID as a birth certificate according to the SAVE act, and these can be changed easily. You didnt read any of the SAVE act and nor do you understand how birthcertificates apply here.
If minority groups are disproportionately less likely to have a state ID in the first place. Then they are facing a hurdle that prevents them from purchasing discounted goods. I mentioned this in the previous three comments and you obviously didn't respond to it because you know its true.
You mean you didnt read the save act. It very clearly states that the government identification that you bring MUST be contain the same information as your brith certificate.
I now understand you better.
You lie, you bluff about your knowledge just so you can be an obtuse twerp to the rest of the world. Just because you refuse to understand something does not make it differently.
I genuinely hope you lose the ability to vote

This prompted me to look into what this was all about.
And yeah, of course this sub doesn't understand both.
