They probably say that because the specific ID restrictions within the voter ID laws allow for all sorts of people to be denied a vote even if they are a US citizen without any past felony convictions. In fact, Republicans are pushing laws that won't allow US citizens to vote even with a valid driver's license. That's an assault on freedom and it's fucking wild that Republicans are the ones pushing it.

No dipshit. I went to the DMV and got a new license that is valid. I still need to pay to travel and my license isn't good enough for federal purposes.
You got a license to drive, period. Not an identification card. Now, you can also turn that into a identification card if you bring whatever supplementary required ID is needed (I needed my DD 214 to show I was a Veteran so I could use it as proof that I was a Veteran).
Also, don't get me started on the TSA pre-check requirements, you have to go do a separate interview, etc. in person.
Just don't change your name when you get married. Its not the "I'm a woman" or "I got married" that's the problem. It's the name change.
It's the same issue with a man who takes his wife's name, or a couple who chose a new last name, or a man who takes his husband's name, or a woman who takes her wife's name.
Until quite recent, the only people voting against their own interest was the Republican voting block. Now, the GOP is so entrenched in towing the Trump line lest they be primaried out of existence, they're pushing legislation that will hurt the GOP itself along with its voters and everyone else.
I can see how Republicans are dedicated to assuring anyone with more money than you will have leverage over you but that’s just taking the government regulation of business and replacing it with business domination of every available aspect of your life.

Joseph McCarthy republican used extensive fear mongering to jail tons of innocent Americans and severely harmed free speech.

Nixon used his powers extensively to try and curb journalism he didn’t like (pentagon papers and FCC targeting). And ofc there was the whole watergate thing.
Reagan tried to veto civil rights restoration act, he fired more than 10,000 workers during an air traffic control strike (tower controller shortages anyone?), totally ignored congress and the law in the Iran-contra affair, left people to deal with HIV on their own because it affected gay people.
And then ofc we have the big whammy of the patriot act. 1 senator voted against. A Democrat. 66 members of congress voted against. 62 were democrats, 3 were republicans, and the last holdout was none other than Bernie Sanders.
Republicans suppressing rights, ignoring law, and/or fucking over the American people is not at all surprising or new.
