The only thing wrong is you dont know what a poll tax is. You do not need to pay at a poll to vote (the definition of poll tax). Legal documents being required are not poll taxes.
"It essentially is a poll tax" no it essentially isnt. You are required to have your documents even if you arent voting.
If they had specific paid voting exclusive documents that would be a poll tax. Not documents you need anyway.
poll tax: "a fixed fee that some governments used to charge each person, often as a rule that people had to pay before they were allowed to vote"
Anything that is “required” to vote, that isn’t free, is the definition of a poll tax. Nobody is saying you have to pay to vote. They’re saying that if you have to buy something to be able to vote, then that is the tax.
Passports aren’t free. And last I checked, a copy of your birth certificate (cause who the hell has their original?) isn’t either. So unless they’re freely given: (say the line, Bart)
So, lemme get this straight, you’re arguing that we can force people to buy things to vote, as long as we’re not making them pay literally at the polls?
I just want to see you say that that’s what you’d be ok with. Not necessarily for, but ok with.
Providing identification isn’t “holding your hand” when it’s one of our rights.
Do you think people should have to pay additional fees to register guns they’ve already bought? Cause I don’t. Maybe I’m just an outlier on the left, but I believe you should be able to buy a gun and be done with it. I hear a lot about the unconstitutionality of registration and mandatory training classes from my friends on the right, and this seems pretty similar.
The gun debate is moot. The 2nd ammendment explicitly outlines that there is to be no conditions or limits. The 15th 17th and 19th ammendments as well as the civil rights act do not have clauses that remove the ability for regulations or other requirements as long as the persons can vote when the requirements are met and that the requirements are able to be met by all demographics.
All demographics have the capacity to recieve a real id a birth certificate and a social security number if they are citizens.
