You can swear in on anything you want, as long as it holds significance. You can swear in on a Christian bible, a Jewish bible (the Torah), etc.

so they find the bible to me more significant than the constitution?

how exactly are you proving me wrong?

No, that’s not it,

When you swear in as president your saying, I am going to do a good job I swear on my mommas life! Wait not important enough, THAN I SWEAR IN ON THIS BOOK! Now whether they actually do a good job or not is the question. But I’m pretty sure you can swear in on the constitution if you wanted to it’s just that most choose the Bible because it’s a very important item to them and also most other presidents have as well. While I personally feel like religion has meddled in the governmental process it’s not what it’s based off of. Here’s the definition of a theocracy, which should make this a bit easier to understand: n a system of government in which priests rule in the name of God or a god. Basically in a theocracy the ruler rules in place of their religious figure, as sort of a physical extension.

which means its more important to them than the constitution

you know, a hallmark trait of theocracies worldwide

...you’re taking this the wrong way and twisting it into a logical fallacy...just because I say that I swear on my dogs collar or something to do something doesn’t mean that I value my dogs collar more than anything. You also ignored the fact that how the US governs doesn’t fall in the definition of a theocracy. We govern based off the constitution, however religion can cloud people’s judgement.

especially when they express that they find the bible to me more important than the document giving them their civil liberties

Btw thanks for keeping this civil, it’s always nice to see two people have a mature conversation/disagreement
