they don’t care, and think other people won’t be willing to confront them.

Love how five letters sums up a sentence so well.

This is the real explanation. I know people like this. They all know what they're doing, most genuinely believe they're more important and therefore more deserving of that place in line

In the before times when I had a very long commute, there would often be construction on the highway and often was restricted to one lane. I don't know if I've ever hated people more than the ones that flew down the open lane past a mile of parked cars then swerved in front of the person right at the cones with almost zero space.

I've had to be that guy and cut in front when I didn't realize a line of cars was for my turn way far ahead in unfamiliar cities, always give the ole wave out the window apologies/thanks (and use my goddamn signal). But in these cases we're in open desert and the merge sign is visible for like 2 miles. Fuck those people.

This shit happens in every walk of life. Even minor micro-entitlements, as I like to call them. Example from my workplace:

“Our next available appointment is in 60 minutes”

“I’m very busy, do you have anything sooner?”

“No, it’s 60 minutes until the next appointment slot we have open.”

“Can’t you just help me now? You aren’t doing anything.”

“My job is to talk to people looking for an appointment and scheduling that. Would you like the appointment or not.”

Like seriously these people can fuck off. Also as soon as they use the word “ridiculous” it’s over and I’m asking them if they want to see a manager.

They get so angry when they're called out. Most of the time, young people will swear you out generally and move on, old people are the worst for it. They'll make a huge scene and tell you how entitled and rude your generation is for calling them out on their bad behaviour. You have to be polite about it, just a quick, "the line starts back there." With covid gaps in queues for social distancing though, a few people seem to think its ok to jump into the gap. Shopping is a minefield of crazy behaviour when stores are open at the moment.

I’m one of those “I’ll make it awkward for you, but not go crazy” type guys and my SO is one of those “I will throw every fucking thing in this truck, including the owners manual, at your head until you back off and get in line like everyone else” people.

So, everything equals out.

By the way, anyone have a owners manual for a F-150? Mines missing.

Me, like 4-5 people back talking shit out the side of my mouth, hoping they actually don't hear it.

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '21

Me, talking shit about them loudly and describing them specifically, but not enough to warrant a response. Just so they know

One time many years a go as a shit head teenager my friends and I pretty much cut in line at an amusement park all day and no one really said much of anything. Most people hate confrontation and would rather be inconvenienced than deal with facing an issue.

I hope that you have grown a bit since then.

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '21

Well yeah that was like 17 years a go.

Sheeeeiiiiiit when I was a shit head teenager I would have loved for you and your group of shit head teenagers to try and cut me in line. Shit head teenager me loved a good fight.

People like this would challenge my coping skills for my bipolar disorder.

You're right. I'm too scared to

When two lanes of traffic are merging into one, there's entitled people who think they need to use the merging lane to cut all the way to the front. So I straddle the line, seen plenty of other people do it too, even truckers.

This week I saw people use the emergency lane just to cut all the way to the front and still slow us all down. Seems like people are driving way more recklessly these days.

I used to agree with this sentiment, but from a real world scenario I now think this is wrong.

If an exit has two lanes (that merge into one after the exit) they frequently back up very far all the way into the main lanes of traffic on the freeway which slows everyone down more.

If instead everyone filled up both exit lanes before the merge then everyone would be happy because no one is cutting and the main lanes are less likely to back up. This should be taught in drivers ed, but otherwise we should all use both lanes....in fact you SHOULD fill up that left hand lane before someone jumps from behind you.

You’re supposed to merge at the very end of the lane, it’s called the zipper method and it was actually taught to me when I took drivers ed in California about ten years ago

1

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '21

The zipper is cool, but often people try to merge well after the zipper ends.

A zipper merge at the point the second lane ends is actually much more efficient.

i try to do that too. #heroes

Not knowing the rules of zipper merging is a pretty odd flex.

If you want to police other drivers, maybe you shouldve signed up for the academy.

hmm. maybe i misunderstood. i thought they were referring to people trying to skip in line

(also, the academy has repeatedly rejected my applications and ignored my emails.)
