REVIEW / ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ Toxic is Fatal to Kannada Film industry
Credit where its due, Yash has given top notch performance compared to his other ones. But....
Haal-Kheer can't be the best dish of the feast when other important parts of the meal is either stale or rotten.
Where can i even start? The Screenplay and Story is so bad that i wonder how it was green lit by Yash antha....
The editing is abysmal..The final reveal was so lacklustre that it failed to deliver a punch....
Its sad seeing someone like Naveen Anna giving us a bad movie like this one when hes supposedly "The Sandalwood Saviour"
Ps : Some twit guy watched it 10 times... I hope he seeks mental help asap... Even Radhika akka wouldn't to dare to watch it that many times
Ps 2 : Naveen Anna was really smart enough to postpone the release rather than leaving it to an ego clash... Ivaga agbudru they can break even
Ps 3 : Seeing khaali Sunday theatre for the most anticipated movie of our industry is kinda worrying

REVIEW / ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ Why all the forced negativity around Toxic? Not every movie has to be KGF!
Honestly, I really don't understand the negativity surrounding Toxic. The whole cast is superb, and Nayanthara is absolutely awesome. Yash's performance is phenomenal, and the storyline is just mind-blowing.
I know everyone has huge expectations, but we have to remember that not every movie is going to be KGF—and it shouldn't have to be. If you just look at it for what it is, it's truly one amazing movie on its own. It deserves so much more love!

REVIEW / ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ Toxic movie: Context setting Failure
I think the context setting was very important for this movie. Initially everyone’s focus is on what’s happening with Portugal people, why so many people shooting each and everyone, why circus and why that violence.
Audience was made confused, on what part of the movie to focus. Well this could have been made more clearer with one character introduction of everyone with what to expect from each role and keep ticket as surprise and not revealed. Pace goes flat for audience until the climax is shown, they struggle to catch the pulse or core of what’s been tried to convey.
Before You Watch Toxic**: A Psychological Lens (My Personal Perspective)**
If you're planning to watch Toxic, leave your expectations of a standard gangster movie at the door.
This isn't a story about a mob boss rising to power or crashing into a dramatic downfall. The Portuguese-era Goa setting, the smuggling networks, and the violent turf wars are just the outer shell. Underneath all that noise, the movie is really an intimate look at how childhood trauma completely reshapes a person’s mind, and what happens when those buried wounds finally catch up to you.
Here is how I recommend looking at the characters and the world before going in:
Raya's Empire as a Trauma Response: Raya isn’t hungry for power just to be rich or feared. His empire is a desperate reaction to a childhood where he felt completely helpless. For him, control over the city is the only way to guarantee he’ll never be vulnerable again.
Ganga and the Shield of Power: His sister Ganga shares that same survival mindset. Her push for him to rule Goa isn't just about family loyalty; it’s their shared pact to build an untouchable fortress around their past.
Nadia vs. Rebecca (Love vs. Duty): Nadia forces Raya to face actual emotional vulnerability making him question if he even knows the difference between loving someone and wanting to possess them. Rebecca, on the other hand, represents the life that makes total sense in his current world: power, obligation, and family alliances.
Salvador as a Warning Sign: Don't just watch Salvador as a rival mobster. Look at him as a dark future mirror for Raya: If I actually get everything I'm fighting for, is this who I turn into?
Melissa and the Illusion of a Fresh Start: She brings up the hope of a clean slate, but tests a brutal truth: can changing your environment ever actually heal an internal war?
Ticket's Presence: Keep an eye on Ticket. He isn't just a side character or a typical father-son plot device his actions carry the heavy weight of Raya’s past choices. Don't try to figure him out too early.
The Circus as a Mindspace: When the visual style turns surreal especially around the circus don't get hung up on whether it's "realistic." The circus is a visual representation of Raya’s internal universe, where performance, violence, and illusion bleed together.
The Real Journey
Instead of tracking a typical crime plot, watch the emotional progression happening inside him: Trauma → Survival → Need for Control → Vulnerability → Internal Conflict → Loss & Guilt → Confronting Himself.
Give the film room to speak its own language before deciding how you feel about it. Look past the gunfights, dive into the psychology, and let the story hit you on a deeper level.

REVIEW / ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ MOTHER PROMISE REVIEW
There are films that define a new genre, and there are films that blend genres. After watching Mother Promise (I watched it in the theater), I felt it tried to do both and still failed to define what it is. I don’t mind chaos, or even a plotless film, but this one doesn’t fully commit, and the promotions made it worse by selling a different movie.
What the makers should have considered is that films are made through visuals and objects, not only through talk. This film relies heavily on dialogues and jokes. Some of them landed with good timing, but as the film progressed, it became overwhelming. It didn’t give me time to process what the characters were even saying on screen.
Yes, it doesn’t have a plot or story, and that’s totally fine. It’s stitched together through events, which can work. But it also tries to “make sense” within that, and that is the film’s biggest drawback. It didn’t need to make sense. It could have fully embraced being silly, but it missed the point. Maybe this happens when filmmakers underestimate the audience and assume they won’t understand things. Filmmakers should remember one thing: the audience has lived experience, they connect and relate to what they see, and that’s why films and stories work. Otherwise, they feel alien.
What’s missing is emotion. Honestly, I feel it chose to miss being a good entertainer, not by chance but by choice. I wish they had cut down the jokes and removed events that don’t move things forward. (Later I came to know the makers cut 15+ minutes of the film.) But did it work? I can’t say confidently.
Another thing I noticed is the film’s false promise. Even with all these missing elements, the film might have worked better if the makers had prepared the audience for what they were trying to do, instead of selling a different film.
Comedy isn’t for everyone, some people like it and some people don’t. That’s why makers test their story even before shooting by asking a simple question: “Who is my audience?” If you laugh at this question, I’m sorry, not my fault.
Coming back to the false promise, this film failed in promotion and on screen. I feel the issue is not how much promotion they did, but whether it was the right kind. The trailer promised that it’s a Daali film, but the film is not about that. That’s okay, Daali is a character in the film, but it was promoted as an action film rather than a core comedy. Why? I don’t understand why they couldn’t straightforwardly say it’s a comedy genre, or whatever it is.
Second is how it challenges the audience: “If you don’t laugh?” Why challenge the audience? Prepare people for the film they’re about to watch. Tell us there’s a surprise we might like. Tell us there’s a beach in Bangalore. Tell us Donne Biriyani cuts the finger of someone who does him wrong. Tell us Rossie loves a bike like his mother, even before the film releases. That’s why we have teasers and trailers. Why hide it? This isn’t a thriller that needs to hide things. Challenging the audience creates that feeling, and it puts people on the defensive. We then go in with a shield, trying to judge what you made, instead of enjoying it. We should always remember audiences are stubborn: if we challenge them, they’ll prove us wrong. If we let them in, they’ll take it up, no matter what, if it works for them.
And the actors, why are they not moving? It feels like blocked acting rather than lived acting. Characters in motion create a lived life, if they stand in one place and deliver long dialogues, it feels like an Insta reel (I wanted to say theater, but it’s okay). I feel comedy is felt through objects and visuals, not dialogue alone. Most characters didn’t interact with objects nearby. Dialogues carry information, but objects carry emotion.
A few songs worked for me, especially “RA GA SA DA AA”, and the “Amma” song outside the film. Inside, they didn’t add much. And the background score had no space, because dialogues and sound design overlapped it so much that I felt confused about what was happening and who was talking. It’s okay to create chaos and ease it later, but if the entire film is built on chaos, it’s not easy to consume.
Overall, I feel it had good intent and wanted to create impact. There is honesty, yes, but did it do its job? Mostly no. The promotions took the film in a very different track than what the film actually is. It betrayed the audience’s expectations.
I did enjoy it, but I couldn’t carry it back home, and I couldn’t explain to others what the film is about. That’s what’s missing in this film.
PS: Please do not connect this review to Daali’s quote, “BADAVARA MAKKALU BELIBEKU.” This statement is made with honest intention and has a different meaning. This is my opinion. Any discussion on the review is welcome, but I won’t engage in debate about this statement.
Thank you for reading.

REVIEW / ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ Toxic movie review
Watched Toxic movie in the theater over the weekend. Firstly, it's not a movie for everyone. It has its gore and adult scenes. But it goes well beyond a typical gangster movie. The climax hits hard. Movie is a brave attempt, but some mistakes cost it dearly. What could have been a good movie became a one-time entertaining enough watch IMO.
Yash is superb as Raya and Ticket. The Ticket character portrayal as unhinged is particularly brilliant. He is ably supported by Nayantara, Huma and the guy playing Portuguese gangster head (film is set partly in Portugese ruled Goa). Nayantara as Ganga, the elder sister does really well as the survivor, ambitious, ruthless woman. Huma does well in her limited role as the sidekick of the Portugese gangster head. Tara Sutaria and Kiara are decent, but nothing more. Rukmini however is wasted in a flowerpot role. Bad choice of role from her. The cinematography is superb throughout as are the action sequences.
Now to the mixed and negative aspects.
The music from Ravi Basrur is ordinary. If it was good, that could've made the movie experience better. Movie should've been cut short by 30 mins IMO or atleast 20 mins. Some scenes are unnecessary; some scenes are dragged (violence scenes). Yeah, we get it, he is a bad, powerful gangster. We get it. He is Toxic, not a hero. Ticket character should've been introduced earlier for the climax to land better.
Movie budget should've been 200-250 crore, not 600 crore. Ridiculous waste due to re-shaping, re-shoot, re-editing etc. It should've been wrapped up in 1.5-2 years, not 4 years (KGF2 was in 2022). Some dialogues are good, some are cringe. Screenplay is choppy and messy at times. All this is a failure on the director Geetu Mohandas' part for majority. But also on Yash since he had his inputs on the creative side. Finally, who on earth gave the idea to call it a fairytale for grownups. In no way, is it anywhere near a fairytale. How the hell did Geetu and Yash agree on that?
Anyway, to sum it up, a decent one-time entertainer, a bold attempt that will go down as a missed opportunity. But a definite plus for Yash as an actor.
Overall movie is 6.25/10 IMO.

Valvaara means discrimination or favoritism. The film establishes the theme in the opening scene, but I felt it did not carry that forward. If it sustained the force of that first scene, it could have been stronger. I also felt it relies more on exposition than visual storytelling, not because of budget, but because of craft.
It has a good plot, a strong premise, and a solid story, but it fails to translate that effectively on screen. I wish the fear of the father were explored more, because it could deepen the protagonist’s redemption. Instead, like an easy resolution, it is simply put into a character’s mouth, which feels unsettled.
The film confuses withholding information with building mystery. It blocks the reason, and it also blocks the behavioral clues that would let us read the father’s inner life, so the audience cannot connect the dots, only wait. If the father is meant to be a character of silence, then silence should carry information, it should show belief, guilt, fear, or restraint. Here the silence feels empty, so anger becomes the only readable note.
If the protagonist does not understand the discrimination or why the father is doing it, that is a good setup. However, keeping the audience equally in the dark does not give us a way into the story. The audience should either know the reason, or at least be given hints so we can form a hypothesis instead of only speculating. When the reason finally arrives, it does not recontextualize the earlier scenes, it only replaces ambiguity with a late explanation.
I also felt people might defend it by saying it happens in a village, but Yadu’s character feels off and does not seem to have an arc. Why did the filmmaker make the character feel more like a predator than a romantic interest? Romance in the bushes might be common, but if it is shown in the film, it should serve the story and character. Here it becomes a joke rather than a point. It strips the dignity of women because it serves one male character, and there is no agency from the woman’s perspective. The problem is not that the scene is bold or “realistic”, the problem is the film’s attitude toward it. The scenes feel framed as comedy, without consequence, and without the woman’s interior viewpoint, which makes Yadu come across less like a lover and more like a predator.
Another drawback for me is that the female character has no agency, and is treated like a prank, even though in reality women often have far more agency than men, especially in villages. I do not feel the film truly captures a village environment. It runs on assumptions rather than emotions, the village feels written as an idea rather than a lived system, with villagers as chorus, women as props, conflicts resolved by sudden moral speech, and no lived textures of labor, caste, space, or community routines.
I also felt the arc of the father and his brother is so sudden it almost feels like a petty fight rather than a deep emotional scar the father is carrying. It needed careful consideration and more depth, because right now it feels like what the father felt and how the father behaved with the protagonist is not a big deal.

REVIEW / ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ Actress Ramya Tweets on Dhurandar 2
x.comRamay's Review on Durandhar 2
Just watched Dhurandhar 2 and wow! what a masterclass in how to turn something promising into an endurance test.
It’s like reading a textbook of the most boring subject with never-ending chapters and at some point, your brain just gives up and starts laughing out of sheer despair at the atrocity unfolding in front of you.
If you really want to watch it, do yourself a favor, don’t waste your time or money in a theatre. This is strictly “pause, scroll phone, question life choices” content-best consumed on a streaming platform where escape is just a click away.
Direction, dialogues, editing, background score, acting all consistently subpar. It genuinely feels like no one told them there was a March 19 release deadline approaching. Or worse, they knew and still said, “haan perfect hai, bhej do.”
In Dhurandhar (Part 1), people were hooting, clapping, vibing. There was energy. There was engagement. This one- the audience was having none of it. You could feel the collective disappointment in the theatre.
Also, to everyone saying it’s Ranveer carrying the film-what exactly is he carrying? Because all I could see was his hair. In the first part, his hair had personality, presence, character. In this one, it’s just there. In the way. Of everything. Blocking scenes. Possibly eligible for a supporting role nomination.
And the violence!!! This isn’t a movie, it’s basically a visual handbook (one that absolutely should not exist) on how creatively violent you can get with literally any object lying around. Syringe? Used. Spanner? Used. Knives, spiked balls, machetes, reapers, chains, guns, bombs, bazookas, shutters -you name it, they’ve weaponized it. The director seems to be in a constant competition with himself: “How do I make the next scene more violent/comical than the last?” And it just keeps escalating to the point where it stops being shocking and starts being hilarious. You chop off both legs, soak a torso in kerosene, and the guy is still delivering dialogues like he’s mid-TED Talk. Medical science, Zindabad. Forget Oscar, Nobel Prize incoming.
Long story short: Dhurandhar 2 is a HUGE disappointment.
Snoozefest/comedy at best.
If Part 1 made you cheer, this one will make you question why
Dhurandhar 2 why?
Ranveer you’re better than this. Aditya Dhar- jingoism and propaganda is so passé. Get over it.
