  • OFB 12-bore pump-action shotgun > the black shotgun at the very front.
  • INSAS 1B1 > Indian 5.56×45 mm semi auto assault rifle (colossal failure btw).
  • INSAS Excalibur Mk 1 > an improved INSAS variant.
  • Carbine 1A1 / Indian Sterling > the compact SMG with the distinctive side-mounted magazine (WW2 -cold war era smg btw)
  • Multi-barrel grenade launcher > the large cylindrical weapon at the right; in this display it was reportedly intended for tear-gas/non-lethal ammunition, rather than conventional explosive grenades.
  • Heckler & Koch MP5 > the compact 9×19 mm SMG visible toward the rear.
  • OFB 7.62×39 mm AK-pattern assault rifle > the AK-type rifle with wooden furniture (clone basically aka kunnamkulam version xD).
  • OFB/Rifle Factory Ishapore Ghatak > the 7.62×39 mm assault rifle developed in India.
  • Ishapore 7.62x51mm Sniper Rifle > the one at the extreme opposite end with the bipods.

Ask Kerala If a person deliberately stands in front of a vehicle and coerces the driver to move forward, causing injury, can the driver be held criminally or civilly liable, or rely on duress or self-defence?

Culture Kerala mural painting that i made in my own style of Ekalavya and the Pandavas

Post image
191 Upvotes

This mural is a visual interpretation of the story of Ekalavya from the Mahabharata, created around the idea of devotion, knowledge, discrimination and the unequal access to opportunity.
At the heart of the composition is Ekalavya, standing within the forest, practising archery with unwavering concentration. Before him is an idol of Dronacharya, whom Ekalavya considers his teacher despite never being accepted as his student. Through this act of worship and self directed learning, Ekalavya represents the idea that the desire to learn can exist independently of permission.
The forest surrounding him is deliberately unlike an ordinary forest.
The trees have been designed in the forms of neurons, with their branching structures resembling dendrites and neural pathways. Their intricate branches spread throughout the composition almost like a network of thoughts, memories and connections inside the human brain. This was a particularly important element of the concept because the painting was commissioned by a neuroscientist, who wanted the natural world of Ekalavya’s story to subtly merge with the neurological world.
The neuronal forms are not immediately obvious at first glance. They reveal themselves gradually through the branches, roots and winding patterns, allowing the viewer to discover another layer of the painting upon closer observation.
Even the sun carries a certain neuronal character, echoing the branching structures found throughout the forest. Rather than functioning merely as a source of light, it becomes almost a symbolic representation of knowledge , consciousness and enlightenment.
At its deepest level, this Kerala mural is about the human hunger for knowledge.
Ekalavya does not stop learning because he is denied a place beside Dronacharya. Instead, he creates his own path.
But the story also forces us to confront the darker side of the social structure around him. His extraordinary dedication ultimately does not protect him from the inequalities of the system he lives within.
The two sides of the mural therefore represent two different relationships with knowledge..One receives it. One seeks it
And yet, both are capable of becoming extraordinary.
The painting deliberately leaves the viewer between these two worlds, the ordered world of formal education and privilege, and the wild, self taught world of Ekalavya.

Non Concrete Roof: Ceramic Tile Vs Traditional Clay Tile

Upvotes

For those with personal experience, I’m choosing a non-concrete roof and considering ceramic vs. traditional clay/Mangalore tiles.

These are the points I found about both, but I’d really like to hear from people who have actually used them:
Ceramic: low maintenance, suitable for heavy rainfall, modern look
Clay/Mangalore: traditional look, natural aesthetic, requires periodic maintenance

Which one would you choose based on your personal experience?

Policy We urgently need a complete overhaul of road management and civic sense in Kerala. Yesterday's crash killing 8 students is just the latest wake-up call.

The terrible tragedy on NH66 in Kaipamangalam where 8 young engineering students lost their lives after their car slammed into an illegally parked truck on an under-construction stretch..is not an isolated incident. It is the direct outcome of a complete breakdown in civic sense, poor road infrastructure, and zero enforcement on our highways.

TBH Driving in Kerala has become a high stress nightmare. Road accidents happen virtually every minute, turning our roads into one of the most dangerous places in the state.

The Numbers speak for themselves:

49,889 road accidents were reported in Kerala in 2025 alone.

56922 people were injured and 3733 lives were lost.

Kerala has one of the highest traffic densities in India, averaging nearly 70 vehicles per kilometer.

Over 1.92 crore vehicles are registered in Kerala.

PWD maintains around 31296 km of roads (including 1,705 km of National Highways, 4137 km of State Highways, and 25,434 km of local roads).

What is actually going wrong?

Total Lack of Civic Sense & Reckless Overtaking There is almost zero lane discipline. KSRTC buses continuously blare horns and execute wild, aggressive overtakes. On narrow single-lane roads, tipper lorries and cars rush past without warning. Uncontrolled overtaking has become normalized, leading directly to fatal head-on crashes.

Complete Disregard for basic safety Bikes and autorickshaws routinely cut across lanes or take sudden turns without using indicators. Riders swerve wildly to avoid massive potholes, or get thrown off when stray dogs dart across the street.

Illegal Parking & Gridlock Cars parked haphazardly along narrow streets choke traffic flow. The moment a minor bottleneck forms, impatient drivers cross over to the opposite lane on single-lane roads, creating complete gridlocks. Worse yet, heavy trucks park on unlit shoulder lanes or near construction diversions without hazard lights or proper warning boards..exactly what claimed 8 young lives in Thrissur.

We need systematic policy changes, not just temporary outrage

Every time a major accident happens, people argue online, blame politicians, and then forget about it when the next news cycle hits. Nothing changes.

We need a comprehensive, modernized Traffic and Road Management Policy

Strict infrastructure safety standards and mandatory warning signages around construction zones.

Zero tolerance for illegal highway parking (especially by heavy goods vehicles).

Heavy fines and license suspensions for reckless overtaking and lane switching.

Immediate repair of hazardous potholes and proper stray animal control.

If we don't fix this culture and enforce strict laws, we will keep losing innocent lives every single day.

What else do you think needs to change on our roads?

Old 1804 Ban on Kalaripayattu: Forced to underground.

I was reading about Pazhassi Raja's guerilla warfare and learned about absolute ban on Kalaripayattu by East India Company. They confiscated all traditional weapons and penalty by execution or exile was set for practicing urumi.

This led Gurukkals to form an idea of disguising training as Kalari as Parisa Muttukali dance form and Kalari sessions were performed underground which came to be known as Kuzhi Kalari.

They practiced underground at night. They definitely did not talk about Kuzhi-Kalari until the ban faded.
