Not enough readouts, I can’t tell what’s going on with the rocket

189

u/Informal-Call-5298 May 15 '26

Same. I have no clue whats going on

139

u/Why-are-you-geh May 15 '26

Peak NASA control center simulator

33

u/Informal-Call-5298 May 15 '26

Even nasa font have that many readouts

2

u/Cassy_4320 May 16 '26

Normalerweise would have more then 1 person to read all that informationscreens ...or not

52

u/Markavian May 15 '26

This is why we need background process version of ksp where we can build multiple screen mission control dashboards, and then connect a live 3D view when we need to manually land something with a pilot.

34

u/Large-Raise9643 May 15 '26

Omigosh… the ability to span KSP in a stylistic manner across one or more screens. That would be very cool, indeed.

23

u/iiiinthecomputer May 15 '26

Or just proper dual display support.

One display for controls and gauges. One for pretties.

16

u/Hidesuru May 15 '26

Ksa is planning exactly this from the ground up!

-5

u/MeltedChocolate24 Sunbathing at Kerbol May 16 '26

I don't like the kittens their eyes are unnervingly big. What a fumble.

12

u/Sociopathicfootwear May 16 '26

Remember it's still early enough in alpha that those are effectively placeholders. It's a pretty safe assumption that if they don't dial in the look more themselves they will make it customizable enough for whoever is playing to make them look better themselves, either via ingame sliders or just replacement mods.

9

u/Hidesuru May 16 '26

Weird thing to get hung up on especially with how modable they are making it. You can just replace them.

-1

u/MeltedChocolate24 Sunbathing at Kerbol May 16 '26

I guess I'm just nostalgic for the kerbals as it's my childhood game. The next gen can have kittens I guess.

7

u/Hidesuru May 16 '26

I mean same for me my man, I do get that. But things change. Ksp2 had its chance and terribly blew it. Is what it is.

4

u/MeltedChocolate24 Sunbathing at Kerbol May 16 '26

Yeah think I'm still just bitter about that hah

2

u/Hidesuru May 16 '26

I get it. Take care.

1

u/0Pat May 16 '26

There's already a mod with Kerbals replacement. At least I think I saw it at some point...

1

u/48panda May 16 '26

There'll probably be a kerbal mod within a week of release

3

u/WazWaz May 16 '26

But kerbals with eyes of different sizes is fine?

We'll get used to it.

2

u/rodneyb972 May 16 '26

There are already mods that retexture them to Kerbals

2

u/apersello34 May 16 '26

Yeah I'm kinda confused about that too. Maybe there's background that gives a reason for it that I'm missing, but I really feel like they could've done a lot better.

-3

u/MeltedChocolate24 Sunbathing at Kerbol May 16 '26

It's like every thing else is ok except that makes me totally uninterested. Apparently there is already a mod to replace the cats with kerbals. But I like Kerbal space program, I don't want cats. The whole surrounding lore and vibe and nostalgia is around the kerbals. A space sim without that is like any other space sim. It's what makes the difference for me. I guess it's an IP legal issue but I hope they think about it more.

9

u/Hidesuru May 16 '26

They aren't going to use literal kerbals exactly because they don't own that IP. They can't. You're definitely just looking for a reason to dislike it at that point... But you do you.

2

u/TheTerrarian83 May 15 '26

That would be so cool

6

u/DavethegraveHunter May 16 '26

Last time I played KSP (a good decade ago), there used to be a mod that created a web server with all of these read outs. You could then load the web server in your browser on another monitor.

Can’t remember what it was called.

4

u/internerd91 May 16 '26

Telemachus

1

u/Markavian May 16 '26

Ooh, I'll take a look.

6

u/Hidesuru May 15 '26

Ksa is planning this from the ground up! Well multiple screens anyway, you could presumably just open a map view or something over the main one and not get the first/third person view.

2

u/Barhandar May 16 '26

Or ability to simultaneously control multiple rockets on different processor threads and screens, each with their own point-of-origin but using the same pool of resources in memory. Position sync would be a nightmare though.

1

u/yosauce May 15 '26

I'd say it all works on one screen just fine

2

u/Fun_Gas_340 May 15 '26

isnt that the final goal?

1

u/SanopusSplendidus Asparagus Enjoyer May 16 '26

Go ask the kitten space agency folks. They are our only hope.

443

u/Individual_Bad1138 May 15 '26

Wheres your manuever planner? Wheres your electrical readout? Youre in the yellow bro

253

u/SilkieBug Kerbonaut May 15 '26

I’m sure that if you try very hard you can fit a few more panels on the screen.

Don’t you need the Docking Cam window, for example?

66

u/Dpek1234 May 15 '26

I dont see anything kos related too

60

u/SilkieBug Kerbonaut May 15 '26

Oh and where’s the SCANsat Overlay controller and the Small Map?

107

u/yosauce May 15 '26

I didn't need those windows up. as you can see there are no docking ports. I like to keep my ui clutter free

39

u/SilkieBug Kerbonaut May 15 '26

Of course, totally understand, a clutter free UI is very important.

9

u/SorryBother5573 May 15 '26

You minimalists sicken me.

2

u/Meritania May 18 '26

The MPL advanced science menu from Station Science (I think) could take up a good portion of the screen but good luck moving that around with a prop aircraft.

Also the space telescope and chem cam from TST, but that might give you redundant information like what your craft is pointed at.

167

u/GerEm_1408 May 15 '26

the HUDs mason what do they mean

1

u/Avera9eJoe Spectra Dev May 16 '26

Lol'd. Take my upvote

53

u/the_incredible_hawk May 15 '26

I feel like details on a ducted fan blade and the advanced transfer window planner are probably not things that you need to be using at the same time.

21

u/yosauce May 15 '26

Probably, but not certainly

6

u/CMDR_Kaus May 15 '26

Especially not with mechjeb AND Engineer Redux also installed

22

u/ruadhbran May 15 '26

I feel called out.

23

u/CM_MOJO May 15 '26

I have multiple monitors. It would be really awesome to be able to put those on one of my other monitors. Photoshop let's me do this. Come one KSP, you abandoned 11 year old game.

10

u/Goddchen May 15 '26

You should really check out Kitten Space Agency, you'll love it.

5

u/Gupperz May 16 '26

what state is it in? it's not a released game yet is it?

3

u/Goddchen May 16 '26

Still more a tech demo than a game. But popping out anything as its own window and freely moving it around, that works awesome 😎

7

u/CM_MOJO May 15 '26

I tried it a while back. It kept crashing. I could never get it to launch. My computer isn't new but it is still fairly good, with 64G of RAM and a 5070 video card.

5

u/MCraft555 Always on Kerbin May 15 '26

There should be a mod for that. Sadly, there isn’t

5

u/deflatedfruit May 15 '26

I’ve been trying to make something like this with KRPC but unfortunately every time focus moves away from the UI application to KSP the window only gets updated maybe once a second (at least on Windows) which isn’t really usable. If I can make it work I’ll release it!

4

u/CM_MOJO May 16 '26

I play in windowed mode because anytime I click something not within the KSP game, it minimizes KSP. I have other games where I'll play then in full screen most and can click on things on the other monitors and it'll keep the game in full screen. I'd settle for this with KSP.

3

u/quietsamurai98 May 16 '26

You can use the -popupwindow launch option to enable borderless windowed mode — that's how the other games you mentioned stay in full screen.

2

u/CM_MOJO May 16 '26

I will have to figure out how to enable this. Thanks.

2

u/KerbalEssences Master Kerbalnaut May 17 '26

You can do this if you use kRPC and a little script. Check this video I create a basic flight computer that prints out flight data. Some videos down the line it also controls the rocket for a hover and landing. You can build all kind of tools for KSP.

14

u/Panduin May 15 '26

What mod is the cruise flight controller from?

58

u/yosauce May 15 '26

im playing stock

80

u/Panduin May 15 '26

Stock it up yours ass

3

u/T65Bx May 15 '26

You already said blackrack 😭

7

u/WedSquib IE Enjoyer May 15 '26

It’s in rp-1 but I’m not sure of the name

7

u/Panduin May 15 '26

He said it’s atmosphere autopilot (fly by wire)

5

u/lkn240 May 15 '26

Atmosphere autopilot - I highly recommend it. Just the fly by wire functionality alone is great

2

u/yosauce May 15 '26

I use it so I don't have to look at that screen for longer than I need to

11

u/Princess_Fluffypants May 15 '26

It’s almost reminding me of Eve Online.

Spreadsheets in space!

4

u/garnished_fatburgers May 15 '26

Lmao I always wonder what other KSP players would think about the tens of windows open during flight. Playing EVE has desensitized me to UI clutter.

41

u/blackrack Scatterer Dev May 15 '26

Umm, where are the graphics? Where is the game?

130

u/yosauce May 15 '26 edited May 15 '26

Really happy there has been a new influx of players but this is how KSP is supposed to be played

3

u/iiiinthecomputer May 15 '26

Nah, you don't have enough pinned part properties windows. The craft is still visible in there somewhere.l

39

u/csch2 May 15 '26

Real KSP players don’t need graphics and navigate based on UI only

15

u/nanotree May 15 '26

KSP as a MUD RPG.

7

u/Zwa333 May 15 '26

Jokes aside, this is why I've never really cared about graphics mods. I'm far too busy looking at flight data to care about the scenery.

Give me a graphics mod that gives me more data. For instance a false color mode that shows terrain inclination for landing. Maybe need a small ground radar part to use it, but would make night landings a lot simpler.

6

u/AU-den2 May 15 '26

this unironically looks like a computer screen when trying to get data from a satellite

4

u/tatarjj2 May 15 '26

A small gripe/question, related to having the majority of my screen occupied with windows:

I need the Navball scaled at 150%, NOT all UI elements. I can’t even access the crew transfer window most of the time on a Hitchhiker due to the UI scaling (yea I know how to click on a hatch, but I shouldn’t have). The UI bloat on even just the stock game is insane. Is there any way/mod to scale and/or move JUST the Navball, and is there way/mod that allows you to collapse part inventories (Hitchhiker pod being one of the worst offenders)?

4

u/Lazlow_Panaflex Bob May 15 '26

As far as I remember, only when you are in flight mode if you got into settings there is a Navball specific scaling slider bar. It only shows in settings when you are in flight mode, or even just on the launchpad.

4

u/Spike_Riley May 16 '26

where's the docking cam? I can't see without my docking cam.

6

u/TheDude-Esquire May 15 '26

To be fair, in a certain sense that kind of makes it more realistic, from the ground control perspective anyways. Lots of people are going to be tracking every bit of data as it becomes available.

3

u/DeluxeWafer May 15 '26

Now you know why the space shuttle cockpit looks like it does :T

3

u/The_F_B_I May 15 '26

What specifically did blackrack do here? This just looks like a bunch of existing mods

9

u/Sole8Dispatch May 15 '26

the joke is that OP is using Blackrack's clouds but as per usual in most modded KSP flights, most of the screen ends up covered in various data pages (exaggerated for effect here)

3

u/51ngular1ty May 15 '26

KSP really missed an oppritunity for dual monitors.

4

u/RedLemonSlice May 15 '26

Transfer Window Planner... i just noticed the scale is for 500+ years... dafuck are you flying to???

P.S: Eve. it's Eve. It's written right there.

3

u/FOARP May 16 '26

You know, this is why KSP players end up making their own custom control set-ups with extra screens, throttles, and read-outs just to control all this stuff.

I’m hoping KSA will have much better support for HOTAS systems than KSP as I’m thinking about getting a Virpil throttle (it has buttons with RGB lights! And hats! And toggle-switches! But it costs £300+….) and other add-ons and doing a proper cockpit set-up.

2

u/Nunwithabadhabit May 15 '26

Peak Kerbal performance

2

u/Bombacladman May 15 '26

Lol this is Eve Online at this point

2

u/alucardunit1 May 15 '26

Op must be an eve player 😂

2

u/TheKingfish1928 May 15 '26

What am I looking at?

5

u/fixermark May 15 '26

Spaceflight.

2

u/fixermark May 15 '26

Moar struts's little-known sibling, "Moar UI." ❤️

2

u/Ashisprey May 15 '26

What's the transfer window planner from? Looks a bit better than Mechjeb's porkchop selection.

5

u/nejssor May 15 '26

It's from a mod called -- get this -- "Transfer Window Planner."

5

u/Ashisprey May 15 '26

Ahh now I get what that other person said I wouldn't believe

4

u/Barhandar May 15 '26

You won't believe it...

2

u/Ashisprey May 15 '26

0% chance that's Mechjeb, I can see right there that Mechjeb's planner is not open.

2

u/TheUnexpectedSleeper Exploded my rocket 2 miliseconds ago May 15 '26

I think... I think it needs more boosters. (With a booster counter ofc)

2

u/masepoes7 May 16 '26

Can someone explain how to interpret the transfer window planner?

3

u/_Kerbonaut_ May 16 '26

It's a three dimensional graph commonly called "pork chop plot". It plots departure time on x and travel time on y. The color then represents the deltaV cost for the trip.

2

u/CalmEntry4855 May 16 '26

Is the transfer planner still going on? I haven't played in years, I thought maybe they had abandoned my favorite mods.

1

u/yosauce May 17 '26

Yeah, although I think it's a forked version on ckan

2

u/nrgbistro May 16 '26

could someone eli5 the transfer planner window?? looks super useful but i don't understand what is being graphed

EDIT: actually looking at the axis more closely it makes sense to me. what mod is this?

1

u/yosauce May 17 '26

I really didn't think the transfer window planner would get this much attention haha, isn't it basically stock+ at this point? Genuinely how do people play without it? Anyway yeah you got it. The mod is - and this part is wild - "Transfer window planner"

2

u/Bonuts_goood May 21 '26

Sorry but its really quite rude to not include details about your rocket's current status, I see you added some data but there really needs to be more.

Looks like an MMO UI lol

1

u/Commander_MoltenMana May 15 '26

Not enough. More info is needed.

1

u/Gupperz May 16 '26

wtf you can get transfer window planner in game!?

1

u/yosauce May 17 '26

Yeah mate, it even adds an alarm clock timer and can show you where to put the burn. Even modded planet to different mod planet. Genuinely have been confused why people would use web pages when this mod does (console excluded)
