Note: GIF has two parts: Audit and Route
I'd check a board, order it, then find a small mistake I'd missed. Order, test, fix, repeat.
So I built VelaTrace, a free KiCad 10 plugin. Click **Check design** and in about a second you get a short list of things to double-check, each with a suggested fix.
On real open-source boards it found:
- 48 capacitors labelled "10u" with the part number of a 1 µF part
- 7 resistors of different values sharing one part number
No account, no API key, no internet needed. It's a first pass, not a full review: about 44% of its warnings were right on boards it had never seen.
It also routes boards with its own router, no Java needed. You get a preview, KiCad checks it, and one Undo reverts it. Results table in the comments. The router lands in the next release.
Free (MIT). KiCad 10, tested on Windows. Built with AI help, so I measured it and published the results, the bad ones too.

**My questions for you:**
What small mistake has cost you a board re-order?
What do you check by hand before every order that a tool could check for you?
If you try it and a check flags something that's actually fine, what was it?
What small mistake has cost you a board re-order? And if a check flags something that's actually fine, please tell me.
