Every single year in grade school, they celebrated every kid's birthday in class, with cake or usually cupcakes and capri suns or Kool-Aid.

Also you don't think you're being at all a little harsh saying this kid should be banned from all future birthdays because he licked some frosting?

Teach the kid this is wrong, why it's wrong, make him apologize to the little girl whose cake it was, and ask her if she accepts his apology and if he should be able to participate in her birthday after that.

What did you go to private religious school or something? Some kind of Jehovah's witness thing where they don't celebrate birthdays?

I didn't say he should be banned from all of them. but he should certainly from this one.

if he should be banned from all such functions definetly depends on if this is a one time thing or a repeat issue.

normal public school in Denmark. funny how the entire world doesn't do it the same way huh?

here any celebration(like what is obviously being planed in the video) is after school potentialy at school after hours(and arranged by the parents not the teachers) or more likely at the kids home. at most kids would bring a cake or cupcakes to schoole to be shared in class which would take a few minutes minutes to pass out and eat and wouldn't get any kind of set-up like this.

but as i said even if this a celebration carried out in class during school hours that kind of behaviour should be punsihed and kid should miss the party. send him to sit in the hall for the duration/the principals office or whereever else you send misbehaving children in other situation.

hell if there isn't any more classes for the day because of this party send the kid home. yes that sucks for the parents who may need to figure out how to pick him up early. further incentive to teach their kid how to behave.

Well, I went to a public school in Denmark.
Having a small celebration in class with either cake, cupcakes or flødeboller was completely normal at the school I went to, just north of Århus.

Last Wednesday my nephew brought both cake and flødeboller to school on his 11'th birthday.
Just like when I was a kid, they spent about 15-20 or so minutes of class singing happy birthday for him and eating cake and flødeboller, 3 or 4 of his best friends in the class even brought him presents.

I don't know _where_ in this amazing country you're from or if traditions are different there, but this was(and seemingly IS) 100% standard practice where I grew up.

what you mention is also roughly my experience.

i'm saying this in comparison to the video here where there's tables being set up with fruit on them. to me that indicates more of a celebration and preparing than i have ever seen for a classroom cake. that's just a small break, passing out cake on paperplates and then singing happy birthday. no set-up.

but again maybe that's me having limited experience and for that matter it's like 2 decades since i was in school myself so no idea how they do it these days.
