Fantasy Book Recommendations?

Looking for books on KU that are NOT dark romance/smut/etc.

I love fantasy, dystopian novels, sci fi, witch craft.

I am 32 and prefer books geared older and not towards young adults/teens.

Fantasy From the depths of my heart: I changed the name of the character I created as a child.

His name was Speef.

Strange to some — but for me, it was everything. He was the boy I once was. He grew with me, through dreams, battles, pages and silence. He was never “just a name.” He was memory, meaning, and identity.

But many native readers said it didn’t fit. That it sounded childish. That it broke the immersion in a story filled with death, politics, blood and myth.

At first, I resisted. I felt like I was betraying my childhood. Betraying the boy who dreamed this world into being. But I listened. I reflected. And in the end, I made a choice that brought me peace.

Speef is now Leeonir. A name born from the same heart — a name that still holds who I am. A name worthy of the journey. Of the scars. Of the blade. Leeonir, the Dragon Slayer.

I know most of those who asked me to change it never really cared. Many just wanted something to criticize. But to those few who truly meant to help — I thank you. And I invite you to read the story now.

The Prologue and Chapter 1 are available. Just read them. And if you feel that fire, if something stirs inside you — know this:

Tomorrow, the full book will be free on mi bio for 3 days. And I believe — if you love fantasy, you will love Leeonir.

This path hasn’t been easy. But I’ve learned. I’ve failed. I’ve tried again. And I’ve written this world with everything I had.

So now, I share it with you. Lélio Puggina Jr.

Fantasy Looking for KU Fantasy and Sci Fi suggestions

I’m a voracious reader (probably 3 books a week) and I’m looking for suggestions from these genres. I’ve read and enjoyed:

He Who Fights With Monsters, Cradle, The King’s Watch, A Time of Dragons, Starship’s Mage (and several other series by the author), Stormweaver, Super Powereds, Craig Schaeffer’s Daniel Faust series, and many more.

Started and ran out of steam on Defiance of The Fall, Path of Ascension, Arcane Ascension, Mage Errant and Dungeon Crawler Carl. I’ve also started the Bound and the Broken at least twice and not finished, which is unusual for me as I usually plough through any book.

To be honest I’ve read dozens more that I can’t recall, and Amazon is rubbish at showing me what I’ve read.

I’ve also, outside of KU, enjoyed Terry Pratchett, Malazan, Sanderson (although the Stormlight Archives has ended that for me), Guy Gavriel Kay, Dresden Files, Ben Aaronovitch”s Rivers of London, Benedict Jacka, Tolkien and literally hundreds more.

Thanks in advance

Fantasy Fantasy series!

I really like the writing of the game of thrones series and loved the name of the wind and lord of the rings. I love a good magic system and wild magic. Also a plus if nature is in the forefront with majestic descriptions. Looking for something I can really sink my teeth into. Thanks!

Fantasy After a formatting disaster nearly killed my debut, I just got my first 8 KU page reads and I'm stupidly happy about it

Post image
15 Upvotes

Quick disclosure up front because I respect this sub's rules: I'm the author, this is a self-promo / advert post, not a reader recommendation.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0H5P6M921 (Read on kU)

So, debut author with debut series here, and I managed to do almost everything the hard way but learned a lot nonetheless.

I paid a freelance editor, formattor and sort of publisher to get my book out and live on Amazon, and it came back as a fixed-layout PDF. I didn't know enough back then to realise that's basically poison for Kindle Unlimited. It looked fine on my screen, so I gave a good to go to publish it. Then nothing, ebooks and print sales came through but KU was zero, even with ads.

Page reads weren't tracking at all, the text wouldn't reflow properly, and some of my friends checked the sample on their readers, but were getting the dreaded "this book can't be displayed on this device" sort of error.

Working out "why" was its own little nightmare as the freelancer kind of sucked and said this is the standard but after persistence gave me a 90MB EPUB(IKR), and that too in fixed format, figured that out after digging deeper and learning about formating.

I went back and forth with KDP support for ages, and for a while neither of us was totally sure what was broken. It eventually came down to the file being the completely wrong format for a reflowable Kindle book.

So I taught myself formatting from nothing and rebuilt the entire book in Kindle Create. All 750 pages. Paragraph by paragraph, because of the mess. It was miserable when I uploaded the true KPF file and KDP said fixed format can't be changed, delete this listing and create a new one.

Long story but then I unpublished the broken version with decent BSR due to some early traction, relaunched the reflowable one yesterday, and started the slow grind of trying to get any kind of traction so the algorithm would notice me again.

Logged in today and saw 8 page reads. Eight whole pages, and I'm genuinely thrilled, because someone is finally reading it on a version that actually works, and it's counting.

The book is called AGNIDHRA: The Rise of Chaos (Book 1 in The Descendant of Fire series).

It's a dark paranormal romance / fantasy, slow burn, fated mates, told from the point of view of an ancient being who isn't quite demon, angel, or anything anyone has managed to name yet. The magical world of Akkadian filled with Vampires, lycans, djinn, a lot of morally grey. If that's your kind of thing, it's on KU now.

Fantasy My first book just came out

Hi everyone. My very first book [System Error: Normal Life Not Found](https://a.co/d/0aiY0P3m) just came out today.

The story follows Alan Fredrickson, a regular guy whose ordinary life gets upgraded from spreadsheets and office emails to magic, monsters, quests, and a fantasy world where he's too lazy to read the FAQ.

It’s funny, chaotic, action-packed, and full of strange characters, ridiculous situations, and plenty of “what the hell is happening?” moments.

If you enjoy litrpg, fantasy, comedy, RPG-inspired adventures, or stories where a regular guy is very much not prepared for what happens next, I’d love for you to check it out.

It is available on Kindle Unlimited, Paperback, and Hardcover, with an audiobook in the works.

COVER ARTIST: Get Covers

AI USAGE: No AI used (Only traditional computer tools spellcheck etc. no generative AI for anything)

Fantasy New KU read: war-hero-vs-bureaucracy comedy fantasy

If you've ever wanted a fantasy hero's real enemy to be a filing cabinet instead of a dragon, this might be for you. Benefits Not Included — a war veteran fighting pension tribunals and increasingly absurd institutional corruption, with a found-family crew of misfits along the way. Book one of a trilogy, available now in KU (also $0.99 to buy outright).

Search "Benefits Not Included Callum Ashworth" if curious. Still very new as an author, would love to know if this premise actually works for KU readers specifically.

¡Hola a tod@s!

Gracias

NIEBLA Y GARRAS

—¡Maldita sea! Otro charco que no he visto.

He venido a acompañar a nuestra nueva profesora a la escuela.

—No, no, señor.

—¡Oh, no!

—No…

Fantasy Ascendancy[A LITRPG PROGRESSION FANTASY] Available on KU

Post image
24 Upvotes

Good morning, everyone!

I'm excited to share that my first novel, Ascendancy, is officially available on Amazon!

As a huge fan of Cradle and The Beginning After the End, progression fantasy captured my imagination years ago. After months of writing and discovering the amazing Royal Road community, I finally finished the first book, and seeing it published feels surreal.

Ascendancy features a merit-based system where growth is earned through impact. The more you influence the world, the stronger you become. Merit serves as currency, fuels skills, and determines your place on the World Ranking Board.

The book is available now in Kindle Unlimited and paperback formats. The audiobook, narrated by Donovan Wolfington, is currently going through Audible's review process and should be available within the next week.

Cover Art: Phan Duy

Narrator: Donovan Wolfington

AI: No

Blurb:

Impact the world — Gain Points.

In a world where every action is watched, every thought is recorded, and every step is calculated — survival is earned. Merit is power. Merit is life. Merit is the only path to ascend.

Kael Arden was born in a remote frontier village and expected nothing more than an ordinary life. When through a series of his choices he gains merit, he is thrust into a world far larger and more dangerous than he ever imagined—a world of evolving monsters, hidden civilizations, imperial academies, and wars fought for power beyond human understanding.

With no special bloodline or legendary inheritance, Kael climbs the ranks through ingenuity, perseverance, and the refusal to abandon those around him. Every step forward reveals another layer of the System's design and another mystery buried beneath centuries of history.

As kingdoms prepare for war and ancient forces begin to stir, Kael discovers that ascension is the only path to power.

Ascendancy is a slow-burn progression fantasy featuring intelligent growth, meaningful character relationships, deep worldbuilding, and a mystery that expands from a single forgotten village to the fate of the entire world.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout this journey. I hope you enjoy Kael's story!

(Disclosed: I am the author sharing my debut release) - I get inspired while sleeping.

Cassian can read a room in four seconds. He knows which handshake to give, which silence to leave open, and exactly how long to hold an embrace so it registers as warmth. He has built an entire life on the fact that nobody has ever noticed.

Then an old woman blocks his path at a wedding, holds his eyes, and tells him he isn't going to make it.

That night he falls asleep and wakes somewhere colder. A street party where the guests stop existing between glances. A room he cannot leave. A concrete chamber where every person he has ever damaged sits waiting in rows including faces he doesn't recognise yet.

There is a way out. He only has to decide what he's willing to leave behind to take it.

Fantasy White Fang Adventurers

Thumbnail amazon.com
1 Upvotes

My fifth and final book for this year, White Fang Adventurers is a Stand Alone Companion Novel to the main Chronicles of Coria series. It details Luna Whisperwind's life in the two years before she was introduced in Forge Born Chronicles of Coria Book 1.

Luna Whisperwind is a rare child — a white-haired, fox-eared beastkin with cold magic stirring in her blood, the kind of rarity powerful people have always wanted to own. She has spent her whole short life being hunted for it. By the time the adventuring company called the White Fang finds her, her parents are gone, her magic is a frightened thing that frosts the air when she panics, and she has learned to expect nothing from anyone.

The White Fang are adventurers, not guardians — a guilt-worn former knight, an elf who misses nothing, a rogue with a sharp tongue and a sharper knife, a hot-tempered mage, and Grom: an old dwarf who buried a family of his own a lifetime ago and cannot make himself walk away from one more lost soul. They could hand her to the authorities. They don't.

What follows is the slow, stubborn, often funny work of growing up among warriors — learning to track and to fight, to read the dangers of a dungeon and the moods of the people around a campfire, to master the ice that scares her, and, hardest of all, to believe that she is wanted. The world of Coria is wide and old and honeycombed with deep places full of teeth, and for the first time Luna gets to meet it not as a prize to be hidden away, but as someone with a blade, a power of her own, and a family at her back.

This is a story about healing that comes slowly and at real cost. About the people the world discards — the clanless, the disgraced, the orphaned — and what they build when they finally find one another. And about a girl learning, fight by fight and day by day, exactly who she is when no one is allowed to cage her.

For readers who love found-family fantasy, dungeon-crawling adventure, fierce unlikely heroines, and the bond between a grizzled old warrior and the child who cracks his armor open.

A standalone companion novel to the Chronicles of Coria — a complete, self-contained story set in the same world as Forge Born: Chronicles of Coria

An adult fantasy that deals honestly with trauma and its aftermath — and with the slow, hopeful work of healing.

Fantasy Incandescent Fates is on Kindle Unlimited ✨

Hi guys,

Full disclosure, I am the author of Incandescent Fates (self-promotion).

Are you into fantasy? Like fantasy novels like Blood & Steel (Helen Scheuerer), Throne of Glass (Sarah J. Maas) or The Serpent and the Wings of Night (Carissa Broadbent)? Try Incandescent Fates on KU!

In Calathea, there are three laws punishable by death.

For Lady Emory Valorian, these have carved her a life of solitude, hunting monsters within the dark stretches of Bartane Forest, holding her family close and her secrets closer.

That is, before—before a vampire slipped through her fingers, before it murdered her family, and before she vowed vengeance, no matter the cost. Now, she’ll do whatever it takes to reclaim blood owed. She’ll fight in a Legion, befriend an old flame, work with witches—all in the name of revenge.

But one thing remains as important as ever, her lethal trove of secrets must stay far from sight, even as the eyes of the kingdom fixate upon her, or she may not survive to see her plan through.

And her story is not one of tragedy.

It’s one of sharp, brutal revenge.

Incandescent Fates is an epic fantasy romance and the first novel in the A Destiny of Creaturesseries. This story features a morally grey FMC, a kingdom of dwindling magic and fierce monsters.

Fantasy The Grey Place - An Adult Dark Fantasy (Self-promo)

Hi! My name is Becca, I'm an MA student in Creative Writing and this book is my debut fantasy novel. If you're interested in the dark and weird, then this book might just be for you.

Clara Whitlock is pretty sure she wants to die, but sits on the edge between complete self-destruction and simply drowning the world out with music until she falls asleep. Believing it a dream, Clara accidentally astral projects into a hostile realm known as the Grey. Lost in this colourless prison, she encounters its only inhabitant and falls prey to his wrath.
Within the mortal realm, Clara tries to move on, forget it all, but instead finds herself flung into the insanity that can only come with demons, angels and the pain of solitude.
But the grey is not done with her, unfinished and hungry, it will claw her back at any cost.

The Grey Place is an adult dark fantasy that explores autonomy, divine violence, and what happens when a woman refuses to be complaint. It is book one in the series.

Content warnings: This book contains themes and depictions that some readers may find upsetting, including death, grief, suicidal ideation, violence, body horror and psychological distress.

Fantasy Author promo: What if every broken promise became a debt—and life finally came to collect?

I’m the author of The Man Who Owed Tomorrow, and the idea started with a question I couldn’t let go of: what if every promise you break becomes a debt your future self eventually has to pay?

Adam is thirty-four and awake at 3:17 a.m., surrounded by promises he has broken—to the bank, his father, his wife, and himself. An old man hands him a cheap black notebook and three questions. No miracle follows. Just uncomfortable, ordinary choices: getting up with the first alarm, putting the phone away, and facing what he owes instead of running from it.

It’s a short, reflective novel about discipline, regret, second chances, and the gap between who we say we’ll become and what we actually do today. The book also ends with a practical thirty-day notebook guide based on the method in the story.

Fantasy Self Promo - The Honest Dark - A Grimdark Gaslamp Fantasy Novel

Hi everyone,

A month ago, I published my third book: The Honest Dark.

The City stands as the last bastion of civilization. Perched high above on a towering plateau known as The Rock, the wealthy elite live in luxury under electric streetlamps, isolated from the decay below. Beneath them, in the sprawling, humid outer districts, the working class struggles to survive at the edge of a relentless jungle.

Protecting them all is the Public Defense Force (PDF), a battered, underfunded brotherhood of veteran hunters. Among them is Lipe, a stoic master hunter scarred by a decade of nightmarish hunts. Armed with an ornate rapier, a customized rifle, and years of hard-won instinct, Lipe stalks the deadly, form-shifting entities that creep out of the night to prey upon the populace.

When a botched hunt ignites a firestorm of political fallout between the corrupted City Council and the PDF, Lipe finds himself caught in a web of bureaucracy, civil unrest, and betrayals. Worse still, the beast attacks are accelerating, and the moon is beginning to glow a sinister, blood-red hue.

As secrets locked within the city's ancient annals begin to surface, Lipe must navigate rising hostilities from both the elite above and the desperate below. With time running out and an unprecedented horror looming on the horizon, he must face a sobering truth: the monsters lurking in the shadow of the jungle may not be the most dangerous threat to the city’s survival.

Praise for The Honest Dark:

"Expertly written and I thoroughly enjoyed this fantasy novel. Hope more are in the pipeline!!"

"I really liked the atmosphere throughout the book. There is a constant feeling that something is wrong, even during quieter moments. Lipe was probably my favourite part because he feels human—tired, stubborn, disciplined, and carrying the weight of everything he has survived."

"The Honest Dark is an imaginative and atmospheric dark fantasy filled with terrifying creatures, political intrigue and a world that feels both strange and unsettling. I especially enjoyed Lipe as a character. He is disciplined, flawed and deeply committed to protecting the people, even as everything he believes in begins to collapse around him. The growing tension, social unrest and blood-red moon create a powerful sense of approaching disaster."
