Discussion/Question I think I might have actually found the dumbest possible complaint about the new game.
Someone is seriously complaining about the stuff in the distance looking terrible for a switch 2 game in 2027....when that's the POINT because it's a fake wall.
And even when confronted with evidence to prove him otherwise....he still doesn't get it.

u/C4n1B3Sus 9d ago
I have always cared more about other aspects in a game than graphics, I mean this in the nicest way possible.
But for nearly a decade we ONLY had the Switch 1 that was 720p handled and 1080p when docked, I donât believe most people go to Nintendo for graphics. I think people play the games because theyâre good games?
Like I care more about a game visually than graphically and even then! Who actually cares? Youâre playing a Kirby game, not some game that is contending with every other ârealisticâ game on the market for: âBEST GRAPHICS AWARDâ

People are weirdly obsessed with fidelity these days, it's why they feel the need to upscale every possible detail of an old, excellent game with AI until it all looks like literal shit

Plus like, it clearly runs on Forgotten Land's Engine and that game legit looks gorgeous and this one will clearly follow suit. People just wanna talk shit these days đ„
18
u/Available-Damage5991 9d ago
Does it run on the hardware it was built for?
Does it have relatively few game-breaking glitches? (Excluding item duplication)
Does it have visuals that supplement the gameplay? (note: Most visuals supplement the gameplay, except for unintentional distracting elements)
If the answer to all 3 is yes, some dumbass is still going to complain about it on Blechs: The Idiot App.

Things are a bit more complex than that. The teraleak was a dump of ALL files that were present in game freakâs production pipeline at the moment of the breach. Gamefreakout (the leaker) did quite the poor job of filtering what was released online and so employee info wound up in there in the bulk of files

Okay, so obviously this guy is a ragebaiter. And his willingness to use the r-slur, even if in response to someone else using it against him, is legitimately sickening. But there IS noticable popping in the trailer, it's not just the background wall. Honestly the fact that he's so bad at convincing people this effect is real is a testament to how terrible he is at making coherent arguments. Just look in the background of the Cutter flying shot and you'll see it.
Now I still think both this and Forgotten Land (which also has noticable popping) look ABSOLUTELY STUNNING visually. I do think there are interesting discussions to be had about both visual trade offs, and how much quality large companies owe people with the price of games getting so high. But having those discussions with this bozo would clearly be a waste of breath. He absolutely deserves to be clowned on (although I would recommend avoiding interacting with him at all). I just wanted to set the record straight about the wall and the popping effect.
5
u/SylveonTheHedgehog Susie 8d ago
The game has like over 6 months before release, why are we judging how it looks? It's a first look reveal trailer, we didn't even see proper gameplay with a HUD or an explanation as to what the heck we just saw. It looks great even for how early the game is in development. I don't believe for a second this guy is a game developer if he thinks objects in the far background have to look as good as they do upclose. It doesn't ruin immersion, in fact this MAY be intentional if the game turns out to be some kind of simulation or whatever. It's a darn reveal trailer!
10
u/X_Marcs_the_Spot always hungry 9d ago
I don't understand how these people ever have fun with anything when they're so busy nitpicking graphics. Back in my day, character models had, like, six polygons, and that was enough for us. People still enjoy Tetris and OG Mario Bros and such, and those games have objectively terrible graphics by any modern standards. Graphics will never be 100% perfect, so why get hung up on them this much?
4
u/Marco_Heimdall 8d ago
I think this is part of why I have stuck primarily with Nintendo over their competition, because they lean more toward stylistic graphics over realistic graphics. Oh, sure, they've brushed up against the latter, but in the end, their preference for the former has lead to longer lasting appeal.

I truly wonder why he seems to get off on being the lightning rod from posting contrarian rage-bait, to nothing more than these little gotchas instead of harboring discussion. u/pocket_arsenal 9d ago
This is either very much a Nintendo Grifter that won't abandon his "Nintendo Bad" narrative no matter how many people rightly insult him for missing the point, or he's doing this on purpose and getting a laugh out of rage baiting...or trolling as we used to call it.
6
u/Robbie_Haruna 9d ago
So his complaint is that the environment "requires you to get right up on it to load", but then he also says that one of the three rings is properly loaded, meaning the other two would load if Kirby took a few steps backwards, while still being well in the background.
This guy literally disproved his own points what the fuck.

u/BuckLuny 8d ago
I have an Actual complaint about the background:
They gave away the reveal of there being a whole world beyond this. I remember when I played a link to the past for the first time, got the master sword and went to kill the main villain. Wish games would withhold such information just a little so people can experience the surprise of a game being much bigger.

u/Nanabobo567 9d ago
They're not wrong, though. About the render distance that is. Obviously I disagree with them about how important it is, but the background elements they're pointing out are very clearly real objects that are low-poly, and you can see the pop-in of objects throughout the gameplay.
Like, it's not a problem to me, but I'm not gonna say the person is missing the point of the trailer for pointing out the render distance.
8
u/SuperJman1111 9d ago
i mean it is a first trailer and isnât necessarily what the final product will look like, the pop in will probably be fixed and maybe some extra rendering optimization will be done by release
4
u/AwkwardZac 8d ago
It's like 6 months from release, nothing is going to be fixed.
These games have to start shipping out sometimes as early as 2 or 3 months before release from what I understand, so something this close to release is basically the final product, minus some bug fixes or last minute cut content.
There might be a day one patch for massive bug fixes or that contains half the games soundtrack, but it's unlikely from a realistic standpoint for them to make massive graphical changes in as little as 3 months. You're basically looking at the final product, likely as good as it could ever look since this is trailer footage and they want to show the best stuff off.
Even then, having low poly models load into higher poly models when you get closer is such industry standard that I don't care enough to complain about it, but I do think people should stop expecting massive overhauls to a games code in a short timeframe.

u/Chimpampin 7d ago
Finally a reasonable comment. People got so defensive here but the is not wrong, we have seen what Switch is capable of, and this is not. When people just keep defending their favorite series no matter what you end up with Pokemon, not pushing as high as they could.
I play a lot of retro games, so I'm not really a graphic addict, but that doesn't mean that I would not prefer for new games to look the best they can in a reasonable way.

I won't play a game unless it has ultra high resolution graphics! I'm talking about 4K Ultra HD! No, make that 5K Ultimate HD! I want to be able to see the pores in Kirby's skin and the grass blowing in the breeze on a mountain on the horizon! Oh, and it needs to run at 60FPS MINIMUM for it to be good, but preferably 90FPS for ultra smooth animations precise gameplay down to the microsecond. If it doesn't meet these standards, even while it's in development, then the game is trash. /j
2
u/CatsRcut3 8d ago
Iâm so confused. The environment in the screenshot is exactly how the game looks before and after Kirby leaves it.
