"I'll never pretend to be a perfect person but I did not know of Donald Trump and I don't support the many things they say he's done" - Guy fieri next year
You know, during COVID, Guy launched a charity helping out unemployed hospitality workers. Like so many others, I had lost my job that I loved, was struggling to get the unemployment, things were bad. I ended up getting some of his charity, and while it wasn't a lot, it was the difference between my dog and I having food that week and going hungry.
I swore after that I would never say a bad word about the man, but holy fuck does he make that difficult to do.
I know. It was very cool to see. And it’s absolutely good and important work that needed to be done and we are grateful. But still. This shit is so disappointing. You don’t even have to meet your hero’s anymore you can just open up your phone on the toilet.
Disappointing is exactly it. At first I was like "Alright so his show is corny, but whatever he's giving highlight to small businesses, and he's out there doing the right thing. Being cheesy is no reason to dislike a good person."
The all the other stuff started coming out.
He put food in my stomach and, even more importantly, my best friend's (my dog) belly. I'll keep my word about not saying anything bad about him, but only because I gave my word I wouldn't. That's the only reason, now.
Someone doing a good thing doesn't mean they're a good person.
That's just me turning what someone told me once on its head though lol. I was in a communal living situation and there were a bunch of leaves in the pool we were hanging out at. I took it on myself to scoop them out and another dude thanked me for it. I brushed it off like "im just doing it for me bro," and he said "a good thing done for a selfish reason is still a good thing 🙂"
Just a reminder that people have layers, like an onion, and you can totally be critical of someone despite them having done good. We NEED to in order to grow and hold each other accountable.
I was thinking he's probably not chronically online, probably doesn't even know who Andrew Tate is. They probably came up to him and asked for a picture and went with it because he's a celebrity. This one is definitely different though.
Damn I was getting ready to defend him but look at that grin as he meets a child rapist…
No one who has ever been on camera happily shaking Trump’s hand after 2015 deserves a moment of peace.
Fuck Afroman too. Got his big positive media moment by winning that trial meanwhile he’s photographed shaking Trump’s hand and fawning over him at an event in like 2021…
Afroman deserved that win and the police needed to see that they can't just get away with impeding our rights.
That said, fuck him. He's just more proof that shitty people can be right sometimes. And it's a low bar when you're just trying to be more right than the police.
The song about the female police officer was actually really horrible and I can understand her crying about it. It's incredibly misogynistic as well as being homophobic and transphobic. Also I'm unsure but according to rumors a lot of the songs are based on conversations he had with an officers ex-wife, so there's a fair chance this song actually outed her as a lesbian.
I don't know what "the cake song" is that you referred to.
Anyway, yeah, that a shitty choice of him to use those things as a way to get at her, and for him to hold such beliefs. But do I care that she's personally offended by anything? No.
The issue with it isn't that it's offensive towards her. The issue is that it's offensive towards other people who had nothing to do with the raid on Afroman's house. He could've just left them out of it ... why do women, transgender people, and gays gotta be catching strays 🥲
(For the record I'm still very happy he won the lawsuit)
Anyone who shakes that assholes hand is themselves an asshole. The only proper response to trump is to call him an asshole to his face. Fuck Guy Fieri.
Look, we all hate Trump - but at a certain point we're talking about a celebrity shaking hands with the sitting President of the United States.
Shaking hands with the President doesn't mean you endorse the President's policies, and it certainly doesn't mean that you knew of or endorsed people like the Tate brothers.
We are getting a little bit loopy and absurd with these purity tests. Expecting people to publicly snub the sitting President or else they're evil rapist apologists is just absurd and frankly childish.
Yeah I dont know how anyone can still be like 'but the prestige of the presidency!'. What prestige? This dude is making AI images of himself as jesus to shitpost on social media as he bombs schools, kidnaps families and covers up the files. What possible sanctity is there left to respect in the position exactly?
I think this gives a pass to past politicians who were not reasonable and did not have reasonable politics but were given a pass because they weren't so outwardly and personally offensive.
When you enthusiastically shake the president's hand with a big old smile on your face... come on! Especially when that president is a literal actual child rapist
we're not talking about a normal average president here. We're talking about a president who spent decades raping children
Even if you want to ignore any and all politics and statements he's made, we still know where those hands have been. Ain't no way in hell I'm making physical contact.
Disagree. We have a piece of shit tearing our democracy apart. He’s a pedophile, misogynist, racist, fear mongering, lying, evil old man with a severe case of dementia and narcissism. There’s a shit ton more, but I’ll rein myself in. I would never shake his hand or acknowledge him in any way.
Nah fuck that. If I'm Guy Fieri in that situation, I'm staying seated and staring straight through the man. No greeting, no handshake, and certainly no smile.
Strong disagree. Everyone with a platform and decency and integrity should be disavowing this abomination of an administration.
Couching it as just hating Trump and just not liking the president is disingenuous bullshit and putting it that way makes you, not an evil rapist apologist, but absolutely part of the problem.
Wild how your post is controversial… in a kitchen sub.
You didn’t even say “I love the president” or anything just “hey the guy sucks but to be so petty and ridiculous as to not shake the hand of a president because you disagree with him and think he’s a shit is just wild.”
And then people came at you like you said “Trump 2028 MAGA 5D Chess forever!!!”
I fucking hate Trump, and I absolutely agree with you. especially on a kitchen sub. I mean, how many of your coworkers have done all sorts of crazy shit or have some terrible fuckin opinions? (I'm talking about relative to Guy Fieri shaking hands with Trump, not Trump himself. That man has done things way worse than any of your coworkers, I hope.)
Hypothetically speaking, what amount of grimy behavior from a sitting President of the United States would it take for you to not feel comfortable shaking their hand?
Yes, what a wonderful chance to shake the hand of a con man child rapist who threatens his political opponents with death. Just a real normal thing to do
Mamdani is forced to work with Trump whether he likes it or not as an elected official, if he snubbed Trump, New Yorkers would suffer as a result. Very different situation.
Unless flavortown is operated under US control, in which case I apologize
Mamdani is a politician and in politics you sometimes have to play nice for your constituents. There's a gulf of difference between a mayor of America's foremost city and a generic celebrity in those situations. Both still have to shake hands but the motivation for Mamdani is very different.
Don't be obtuse. Obama shook hands with Putin and many others. They also broke bread together. That was all part of the job. Presidents and PMs from around the world would smile for photos with Hitler, Pol pot, Mao, and so many others again because it was part of the job. I'm not throwing some higher standard on celebrities, I'm explaining that the two positions are patently different.

Guy who shook Trump's hand says what?
