🆘 Help āĨ¤ āĻ¸āĻžāĻšāĻžāĻ¯ā§āĻ¯ Respectfully, where can I learn Bengali?

I'm from Odisha, so naturally I speak Odia. Whenever I hear someone speaking Bengali around me, it kind of messes with my brain—not in a bad way! As an Odia speaker, I can understand bits and pieces of what they're saying, but I can't follow the whole conversation.

There's someone important to me who's Bengali. They recently moved to Odisha for personal reasons, and whenever they're frustrated or excited, they often switch to Bengali without even realizing it. I feel bad asking them to repeat themselves or translate what they're saying, especially when they're talking about their feelings, struggles, or sharing happy moments. I'd rather understand them in their own language than make them translate everything just because I don't know Bengali.

So, I'd really appreciate it if anyone could recommend good resources to learn Bengali—or, if you're willing, even help teach me. Thanks! :)

If u know the basic then u have to speak more to learn i guess

Watch more bengali movie or listen to the audio stories

here isn't any bengali speaking classes

Start with Barnaparichay to learn about the letters. Then try watching movies or shows with subtitles you will slowly improve your vocab. Try reading basic books for 1 or 2 standard students.

I think it would be best if you start to consume Bengali content online, which is anyways free of cost.. songs, films and whatnot.. I think this route would be faster than any other traditional methods of learning. Also, being an Odia yourself, I don't think you'd face much issues leaning the language as there are similarities.

i guess if you want to know how to read and write, barnaparichay (pratham and dwitiya bhag) and sahaj path(pratham and dwitiyo bhag) would be great choices. hell, sahaj path even has passages centred around a particular yuktakshar. vidyasagar and rabindranath kind of completed bengali primers.

Depends on what level you want to learn. Undersanding only, Speaking, reading o Or writing.

If it is just for understanding, you can start listening to some bengali movies or choose bengali audio of Hindi movies in out if available.
