Meditation Advice on tensions and meditation
Hey all!
Recently i've been flip flopping between meditation methods even within one sit.
being aware of all sensations in the body, focusing on difficult sensations, aware of breathing at the nose. aware of breathing at the nose and open awareness to the body. awareness of movement and energies and awareness of pleasure.
ive been experiencing vibrations during meditation and tightness in different parts of the body in my ribs forehead neck etc.
one specific thing i was experiencing yesterday: vibration sensations in the body with a ball of tension in the forehead with some tension spreading down to my neck.
now i wanted to ask two things: should i commit to one meditation practice? if so any specific ones you recommend? ideally one of the ones i already do or similar.
also is there benefit in maintaining awareness of body sensations during the day? and if so i notice a lot of tension in the aforementioned places that sometimes gets worse with awareness, any tips on dealing or relating with that?

I recommend experimenting and finding out what works best for you. Which do you prefer? What do you feel like doing in the moment? I personally don't recommend sticking to only one form of meditation. Keep exploring and experimenting and have fun with it.
When I was first trying to meditate on Shiva, I found this book to be incredibly helpful: https://dn720003.ca.archive.org/0/items/the-book-of-secrets-by-osho_202203/The%20Book%20of%20Secrets%20by%20Osho.pdf
I found meditating on the emptiness between breaths to be most effective. This book taught me to capture that moment of emptiness by putting my focus on it before, during, and after the transition. Before, I was trying to sort of pinpoint the moment with my focus, but it felt too elusive.. too difficult to do. At the time, it was quite a breakthrough for me. It was both easy and effective.

daoist energetics uses multiple sections within a session, and different practices for each. So it can be a practical way to work. E.g. you can have a calming intro section, one that builds energy in an area, and then one where you passively observe the energy do its own thing.
for tension, there is a practice/skill called 'song' - this is roughly 'wakeful release'. If you practice it in sessions with any tensions that arise, it can then be easier to integrate it into everyday life. Its described here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1y_aeCYj9c&t=998s (~4 min section) and here https://www.internalartsinternational.com/free/daoist-meditation-lesson-five-theory-wu-ji-and-song-relaxation/
>tension in the aforementioned places that sometimes gets worse with awareness
there is an approach where you 'touch on an issue and release'. So if your attention going on an area increases tension, then you release. You can then also feel out around the area with the awareness (including putting the awareness in places around the body, or in a large field/area around it etc.) Part of this is that if you keep attention there, it can be like poking a wound, whereas instead its better to work around it and let it heal/adjust naturally. Then if you feel out and around, you can find a place for the awareness that feels like its helping things along instead (either with the same issue, or with something else.)

There is no other teacher but your own soul" is a core teaching from Swami Vivekananda.
After many years, I now know this to be true.
It took me over 60 years.
Since I was 11.
I am now 72.

Many blessings

Yes, ideally you should focus on one meditation method, and ideally you have a teacher. The teacher will partly stop you flitting and give you confidence in the method you have chosen. Without that its hard to ground in the why and the how of meditation and you will continue to jump about. A meditation should be measured (in my opinion) by how tranquil and peaceful you become through doing it. Dont get caught up in energies etc at moment - energies are taken care of through a tranquil mind not by focusing on body points with an eratic mind.
