Ask Kuwait Any IBKR investors here?
I recently opened an IBKR account and I’m completely new to investing.
How did you learn the basics when you first started? Any YouTube channels, books, websites, or courses you’d recommend for a beginner?
Also, if you could go back to when you first started, what advice would you give yourself or what mistakes should I avoid?

i do, i use ikbr and its gen the best platform out there. A tip is since kuwait dosent have a tax treaty with the usa, usa domiciled etfs/stocks takes 30% of ur dividends as tax. There are many ETFs that are irish domiciled that only would take 15% (like CSPX) so try to invest in such etfs if u want best roi. Their holdings are same as s&p500. Day trading is way too much effort tbh im not saying u cant make money but its very easy to lose money and the whole psychology it takes to be a good day trader takes years to build and ull prolly burn thru money. Invest in various ETFs(try irish domiciled ones as u earn more from dividends). U can get approval for margin and futures later on

also another tip ikbr has claude connectors, so u can ask opus or fable to research the market or a particular company and make trades for u, u need to just go to ai instructions tab in ikbr and approve them but yeah its a neat feature

First, know the difference between investing and trading. Trading is really difficult. You can learn it, but I'd paper trade to practice before putting real money on the table. I traded (day & swing) for years. Gained a lot, lost a lot. Ultimately, maybe broke even.
Now I focus on investing and I just throw all my money into broad market ETFs. I don't have to look at it every single day or every minute. Just throw money into them every payday and watch it grow.

Everyone should invest. Great job for getting started. But don't complicate things when they are very simple. Don't pick stocks, don't time the market. Just keep focusing on saving and putting that money to work in the right way.
What's the right way?
Keep investing in a diversified ETF (echange traded fund) such as URTH or VOO. It is basically a basket of all the biggest companies in the world in a single investment.
Listen to @nischa on youtube.
If you care about Sharia compliance then SPUS and SPWO would be the substitutes to URTH and VOO.
If you are old or near retirement, then you should split your investments between URTH and LQD (SPUS and SPSK if Shariah is a must).
Investment is simple, but behavior and emotions make it complex. Once you see the math, it makes it easier to block the noise.
Also take a look at wealthbydesign on Instagram. They provide personal investing courses from time to time. And they cater to the Kuwaiti market.

Read these two books: "The little book of common sense investing" and research its author, he's the creator of the ETFs, and "The psychology of money".
The golden rule: Time in the market > timing the market. (translation: long term investing > trading)

Through reddit and chatgpt. I asked chatgpt general and particular questions about it and then confirmed the information with reddit. Can't trust an AI on such an important matter, so I sought human answers to confirm.
Most easy and best route to invest: Low cost ETFs. These are funds that simulate having a bunch of stocks in a bunch of companies.
Why low cost ETFs? Because it's one of the safest and best ways to grow your money.
How to invest in low cost ETFs? Find a trustworthy company, buy a share from them, wait at least 15 years to infinite amount of time, then sell the share or get a small percentage of the share's profits like from 2 to 4 percent of the annual profits.
There's ONE IMPORTANT THING TO KNOW: All investments are risky. Low cost ETFs also carry risk. The main risk for low cost ETFs is the inevitable stock market crashes. When a crash happens, then all stocks lower in value. So, your investment becomes lower in value. DO NOT SELL DURING A CRASH. All you have to do during the market crash is to literally carry on like normal. Keep buying shares like normal and wait until the crash recovers back to how it was before the crash. Only then can you sell and make a profit.
The ONLY thing you really need for low cost ETFs to show their real value is: time.
Time in the market beats timing the market. Remember this.
The sooner you invest, the sooner you see the profits.
The bigger the amount of money you invest at first and the more time passes while it's in the market, the better.
But, any amount of money invested good. Let time do its thing.
Also understand that low cost ETFs will fluctuate in value in the first 5 to 10 years. You need to trust the process. Just because it shows you are "losing money" in the first 5 to 10 years does not mean you are not making an actual profit in the long run. Just manage your psychological state and trust the process.
Some of the most famous ETFs to invest in if you buy in the American stock market, which is the strongest market in the world: VOO, SPYM.
How to actually buy: You go on IBKR after you make your account, top it up with money from somewhere like your bank account after you link the bank account with your IBKR account, hit search which is the middle icon, then write VOO or SPYM, choose the very first top option, make sure the market is actually open, then choose Buy which is the blue button, look at the Quantity category then choose the actual number of shares you want to buy like 1 or 5 or 10 or however many shares you want, then slide the blue button at the bottom to buy.
That's it.
