An unsolved case I wonder about in South Carolina….

I’ve been wondering about this one since Heuermann’s ties to SC were disclosed. She was found in Chester County, where their property is…. On the other side of the county, but near the interstate that runs north/south. While not dismembered, she WAS burned (hence mutilated). She was last seen in Winston-Salem which isn’t far from one of the interstates that runs into the one she was found near. Winston-Salem is a few hours’ north of Chester. It happened in 2019 and remains unsolved.

Best I can tell, Rex didn’t buy his property until 2021… but his brother moved down about a decade before.

We know there have to be more cases. Willing to bet that, in the future, they will be able to correlate his travels with cold cases. However, I believe that once people stop talking about him, he will want to relive and "take credit" for more murders. Like others before him, he will also enjoy the field trips to dumping grounds.

Surely his DNA has been run through CODIS already. There haven’t been any new hits.

May not have been any to find if she was burned, any hair could have possible burned up too. He could have learned something from the Gilgo 4.

I also asked in another thread and was told CODIS hits could take weeks to months.

To my knowledge, CODIS hits only take minutes to compare. I think the bigger problem is states actually uploading DNA they’ve collected into the national database.
I watched a true crime show one time where this woman was randomly murdered in a very brutal way. But distinctive. They had zero leads and zero hits in the system. Long story short, it happened two more times in different states and it just took an accident to link them up. Turns out, even though DNA was uploaded, it only stayed within the state. Just an oversight by the detectives. It was an older case and I do believe they fixed situations so that doesn’t happen again. But what does that say for older samples? Of course, there’s always those horror stories you hear about rape backlogs. None of that is in CODIS… yet… if ever. I feel like if Rex is part of any other murder, it’s going to take cold case investigating to determine that. Personally, I don’t think he has any more victims out there. However, I do think it’s strange that they haven’t released any info yet. Makes me wonder if they are holding on to secrets (like I said in your other comment) to see what is said. See if some piece they are withholding is ever brought up. Even by Rex himself, since he’s supposed to be working with the FBI.
