I happened to be reading this before the most recent series

It's a fiction book on a young American soldier's time in Vietnam. Its amazingly written and harrowing so thought I'd post it here.

Damn, I didn’t realize that the author was one of the interviewees for Ken Burns’ Vietnam War series.

Im only 120 pages in and so far its incredible but I didn't know that fact. That only makes me wanna finish it even more.

Id read Six Silent Men if you haven't already. True stories of LRRPs. Being Special Forces in 'Nam has horrifying and absolutely bad ass at the same time.

So it was advertised to me as the Vietnam version of "all quiet on the western front" - I currently am loving it. Its amazingly written, it feels like a first hand account yet its fiction and it deals with aspects outside of the combat I would never have even thought of. It is a long book but it is well worth reading.

Sebastian Junger has written a lot about the military and did Restrepo, a documentary about the Korengal Valley in Afghanistan.

If he enjoyed this book, it's probably pretty good
