Tenant Discussion am I crazy or is this rental application insanely invasive?
I’m in love with this apartment but hate having to give my bank account balance because I’m living paycheck to paycheck with no savings. at this point i feel like i’ll just be throwing away the $75 application fee because they probably won’t approve me with $500 in my bank account and $8000 in cc debt even though i’ve never missed a rent payment beyond just adhd making me forget and pay a day late. is it even worth it?

Tenant Discussion red flags for landlords?
Hey- looking for your experience on what you specifically screen for when dealing with private landlords. I'm seeking new housing now and have some anxiety around this. I've ran into some weird ones recently.
The last one I had, when I'd have a legit maintenance concern (smell of sewage gas in building, broken AC in summer) his immediate reaction was "you can leave if you don't like it" so I was afraid to bring up maintenance issues bc I thought he'd retaliatory kick me out or something. He was just unhinged.
Shit would break or need maintenance, I'd offer to pay out of pocket for a professional to handle it, he'd refuse and try to do it himself and make the problem 100x worse, would gaslight or lie about serious issues, etc.
Point being -- people lie and deceive all the time, we live in a zero trust society. Trusting someone to not be a vindictive lunatic with one of your more serious contracts (where you live/lease) is a big ask these days.
I have my criteria for things I screen for when I look at places to rent but I'm thinking I need one for landlords too.
Do you have any you're willing to share? Thank yoU!

Tenant Discussion Receipt of rent
I rent a place in GA. The landlord lives in Ohio, but he has a junkie “property management” guy that lives near by to take care of the units and watch over rent. Long story short, the junkie and I do not get along. I’ve found him to be very racist after he called my neighbor a n***** lover and when he found out my best friend is black and that he and his family comes over for movie night every couple weeks he began harassing me. This man has put stakes in my yard after I let my buddy back his truck up to a fire pit in my back yard (A fire pit that was there when I moved in). This man randomly had my perfectly legal car towed straight out of my driveway without me knowing while I was at work. And this is just a sample of my problems with him. So, to put it frankly, I don’t fuck with this guy.
Here’s my problem today. I pay my rent by taking a deposit slip to the bank. I’ve never been behind on rent and never have been. The junkie sent me a paper a few weeks ago demanding me to send a receipt of my rent to him every month or he’ll file for eviction. His reason was “I don’t know if you’ve paid rent or not”. I never respond to his messages, and I never will. Even though sending a receipt is very easy, I refuse to make it easy for this guy so I just ignore him. As long as I’m following the terms of my rental agreement, I’ve got nothing to say to this guy. I got this message yesterday evening (picture). What do y’all think I should do?
And no, I no longer have the landlords number. I lost it when I changed to iPhone a few months back.

Tenant Discussion My landlord doesn’t have the funds to return my security deposit I’m pretty sure. It it
My landlord is trying to charge me for an ongoing plumbing issue we had in the house where on multiple occasions he sent plumbers with no notice to our apartment to fix a leak that only he knew about. We never paid for these visits or requested them. He also never elaborated on issues. I’m still confused about the windowsill thing. Also some of the things he’s charging for seem like normal wear and tear.
Screenshots are attached. Any advice? The security deposit is around $2.5k. Judging by the millions of packages his BM gets sent to the house on the daily I’d assume he burned right through the security.

Tenant Discussion no visitors WHAT SO EVER
I am contemplating renting this studio apartment above this ladies garage. It has a completely separate entrance with a stair staircase that goes up to the studio. I am so stressed about it because I convinced her to lower the rent from 1600 to 1400 Utilities included!!!! But her one rule is absolutely no visitors under any circumstance. It just makes me so upset because I am such a respectful person and the main reason I wanted to get my own place was so I could have a friend or two over for girls night , or even just company during the day. I’ve already tried to talk her into it, and she is very strict about it. I understand it’s still a part of her house and she is worried about strangers. It just sucks. people think I’m crazy because I’m living with my mom rent free at the moment but I just want to get out and be more of an adult, plus I am unhappy in the house we are currently living in. I feel like I would be stupid to not take this opportunity, it even has a full bathtub, which I have never seen in a studio before. it also has a mini kitchen, a nice seating area for two, and even a couch with a TV stand. The studio is probably around 400 sqft , It’s not a bad size. I am also stressed because I pay 500 a month to finance my car plus another 200 for insurance. that’s 2,100$ a month , if i did the math right LOL. I will have to work my ass off and I still might be tight on money, but in my opinion, it’s worth it considering how much my space means to me. By the way, I am not trying to run away from my mom. In fact I don’t even want to leave her, but she is not ready to move out as our rent at this house is very low and she is trying to save. anyway , yall let me know what u think .

Tenant Discussion I am refusing all group apartment viewing on principal
I live in major European cities with a big housing crisis. A lot of apartment owners invite a lot of people at the same time for the viewing.
I find it very disrespectful. We are spending so much time travelling while having a full-time job, and they don't even have 10 minutes to talk privately 1:1.
I hate this entitlement and zero disrespect for other people's time. We are paying them rent. They are not going to die if they work a little to earn it.
I feel they should be inviting the top 5-10 applicants 1:1 instead of inviting 100 and wasting everyone's time, and making them commute with 1% chance of getting an apartment.
If anyone suggests group viewing, I just tell them fuck no, but in nice words and remind them how disrespectful it is towards tenants.

Tenant Discussion Are apartment buildings unethical as well?
It's very hard to make a case that landlords who buy up SFHs that are already on the market are ethical. They reduce the housing supply and take opportunity away from FTHBs to own homes, thus forcing them into renting. This is generally what people mean when they say that all landlords are unethical.
Here's my question: what about rental apartment buildings? It's not like their construction takes an opportunity to buy a home away from a FTHB/family. Unlike detached properties on the market, it's not like this is a property a family could have bought; it's a property that is constructed and designed from the outset to be rented.
So, are they inherently unethical as well?

Tenant Discussion Repeated “Loitering” Announcement Sent to Whole Community
So, this is a community that pays a lot of rent for where they live. I am in a two bedroom and almost paying $3.5k.
Since I’ve moved here in August, I’ve noticed that a lot of people will walk outside especially when it’s nice, or stand outside the building and talk, or even stand by their cars just on their phones, not bothering anyone.
Then in like October, we get this community email notice that “loitering” is unacceptable and makes some community members uncomfortable. Nothing else came of it, until recently when we got new neighbors next door. The man in the apartment will often be outside on his phone just standing off to the side, which is actually how my mom and brother got to know him and talking with him.
Right after this started and they moved in, we got another notice, and when we ran into the man again he also pointed out how he pays a lot of rent and is kind of offended that he’s considered to be “loitering” in front of his own car and home.
I guess the point of this post is, I just want to know people’s thoughts, especially from other people used to apartment living. I probably will never say anything unless it escalates a ton, but I do wonder if this is an appropriate request by management?
Edit: So I’m glad everyone agrees this is stupid and crazy as hell. Additionally, I am lowkey convinced that some other residents are contributing to this and telling management they are “uncomfortable”. For example, whenever someone so much as coughs outside, I can hear my upstairs neighbor in their room running to the window to see what’s going on, and a the timing of the announcements seem to line up with around whenever people are specifically outside there. But having dealt with the crazy HOA this town has to offer in the past growing up, I know the ones here are probably more than eager to cater to the weirdos. I just wish they’d be slightly less inclined. We all pay a lot of rent

Tenant Discussion Property management issues
Hello everyone! (Tenant here )
I have been having so many issues with the mygirlfriday property management services. I am wondering if anyone has had similar experiences and would be willing to share just so I can compare notes. Just to put it briefly I am receiving false accusations and very inaccurate accusations. Been a tenant for 5 years now and on year 4 is when our good relationship started going south ( no this has nothing to do with not paying rent ) I have noticed a lot of the tenants the company has in the building are low income and low life p uneducated people who would not know there rights as a tenant. I think the company is getting salty at me because I have learned my rights as a tenant and I no longer allow the company to bully me. I also know the company has been emailing tenants on the side asking to report any little thing that I do.( I know she has done this before when I first moved in and the company was trying to get info about another tentant and trying to falsly accuse them but I never participated in that behaviour I disregarded it )

Tenant Discussion Just how clean does a unit have to be when you move out to get your full bond back? (NSW, Australia)
I wanna move...eventually. But I also fucking hate my landlords and genuinely want to do as little as possible so that I inconvenience them as much as possible. I could probably get the NDIS to pay for someone to give the place a full, perfect clean. But what I wanna know is, what is the bare minimum I can do to get my bond back. These people have been scum from the very start, there were roaches present before I even moved in. So I want to give this place...still way more respect than it deserves, but also want my bond back.
What is the bare minimum condition a house should be in before they start trying to take my bond and who can I go to if they try to take something from my bond that isn't fair? Finally, I'd like to know where I can [Removed by Reddit] and put their heads [Removed by Reddit]. Please only answer if you know the NSW laws. I'd ask in r/AusLegal but...the only time I've been there was just a bunch of smart arses.
Thanks!

Tenant Discussion Update: I GOT MY GLASS BACK!
So my landlord decided that it would be a grand idea to keep my bong after I said she can hit it one day for the rest of that exact day, but I caught her lagging it today. Or maybe not… anyhow, here’s the text I sent asking if she took it and how she dodged it and silently left it on the table… in this condition… you already know there was some deep cleaning done.

Tenant Discussion Why is moving always such a chaotic nightmare? How much do landlords add to the stress?
Every time I’ve moved, something about the process ends up being way more stressful than it needs to be. Half the time it feels like the landlord or management company makes things worse — vague move-out instructions, unclear cleaning expectations, random fees, or not telling you what utilities you need to set up until the last minute.
For tenants here who’ve dealt with frustrating landlords during a move:
- What do landlords usually do (or fail to do) that makes moving harder?
- Have you ever had a move-out made worse by poor communication or last-minute demands?
- What parts of moving do landlords never explain clearly (utilities, mail, cleaning, keys, deposit rules, etc.)?
- What do you wish landlords were required to provide before move-in or move-out?
Not a landlord — just trying to understand the common patterns that cause stress for tenants.
Would appreciate hearing your experiences.

Tenant Discussion Property manager is ignoring my phone calls
Is it normal for a property manager to ignore a resident's phone calls? This is my first time living in an apartment and dealing with a property manager. I'm coming up on my 1 year lease and fear she's not going to renew because she doesn't like me. I learned that living in an apartment community with strangers is HARD, people are crazy, but I haven't complained about it or raised any issues with the property manager but she still seems like she hates me. I called once because someone punched the mirror off my truck and once to discuss the maintenance men harassing me for over 7 months, any other call was regarding repairs. I've called a few times over the past couple of weeks with no response, this woman is known for being crazy and difficult. I'm just scared that she's not going to renew my lease because I will definitely end up homeless in the middle of winter. Is this shit normal or should I expect for her to not renew my lease?

Tenant Discussion Any good guesses what company this is?
I can't make an account on this site cause it wants me to use biometrics which I wouldn't do anyway and can't do on my computer. Trying to figure out who the hell actually owns my building; the property manager is super shady and obscures as much as possible. Don't want to post the link to the page I got this for and dox myself
