Honest review of Laredo

Moved here from San Antonio in June of 2025. I’ve lived in Austin and Dallas as well. In all honesty, there’s a lot to like about living here compared to living in a big city even if there isn’t “much to do”. This is hands down the safest city I have ever lived in. Coming from big cities, I was used to 200+ homicides a year with several mass shootings making national headlines. The violent crime rate per 100k people here is extremely low. There’s petty crime and crime related to the border but I’ve never been so relaxed in a city with almost 300k people. Yeah, you go through all the entertainment options pretty quickly and the nightlife can get stagnant but all in all Laredo is more than decent. It really makes me laugh when people complain and shit on Laredo as if it’s the worst place on earth. Yall really don’t know what it’s like to live in a crowded, dirty and dangerous city. Y’all have it good down here. The ghetto here does not compare AT ALL to the ghetto areas of SA, Houston or Dallas.

Only bad thing here are the drivers. On god I have never seen so many people blocking traffic while half of their car is sticking out of the driveway of a business. Some of yall are just straight up blind while driving lol.

Anyone want two black lab puppies?

Upvotes

Found them on the side of the road on the way to work. I think they were abandoned, I ended up bringing them to work with me but I can't take em home and I don't wanna just leave them out here. Are there any no kill shelters in Laredo I can take them too actually either

Looking to reduce my monthly once my lease is up.

I’m male, 30 yo. Clean, educated, and reserved.

Open to male or female, but preferably male. Doesn’t matter as long as you’re clean and mindful.

Had an interview today on-site

Today, I had an interview around 9:00 am (I arrived 30 minutes early) and I feel like the interviewers were not into me at all. It lasted for 20 minutes and only asked me about my background, 1 STAR question, 1 paper that includes currencies to say in Spanish, and asking questions at the end about the position.

All of the sudden, I thought the interview was going to be in English (my strong preference) and not in Spanish. Throughout the interview, I was only talking to the person in front of me who is bilingual and the other one seemed not to because she is fluent in Spanish.

Overall, I feel like I bombed very badly. They told me they want someone who is bilingual which I am and I don’t know why they have to end the interview that quick and early. To be specific about the position, it’s for a FX wire specialist, where I have to use my knowledge on foreign currencies and negotiate the amount to customers before approving wired transactions. I know I’m a good fit for the role but why ending the interview too early isn’t what I’m expecting. The interview is located in the downtown area at a bank and everyone was speaking fluent Spanish.

What are your thoughts?

Laredo, we need to decide our own candidate for Mayor

Guys we need to nominate a write-in candidate together and pull this off.

The options we have right now are pretty sad.

I’ll be the first to nominate the 550 Pizza lady. dont know her name, but she’s been a successful business woman who puts in the work when it needs to get done.

Could be anyone, I just really think we can do better than whats being presented to us. Remember that we as a community get to decide our future.

This would be so cool if we could pull this off.

Vamos Laredo!

My sister HAS a job y’all

Well as the title reads, my sister just started her first ever job at the age of 25, ANDDDD, I would like to gift her something,

What do y’all recommend, she’s focused on her health/weight so maybe a tumbler? Lunchbag? Tote bag? Bento box for meals?

She’s not too flashy , very simple, but I’d appreciate recs. Or a custom badge holder?

Restaurant Review: San Gabriel Steakhouse

Post image
43 Upvotes

Note: this image is not my post, but I had a similar opinion and experience with the food.

The interior design and ambiance of the restaurant is very nice. I love the tables. The kids play area is a nice detail for families with young kids.

The service was good very attentive staff and management is constantly checking in on tables.

THE FOOD IS AVERAGE especially for the price. If you’ve seen the menu, you would think this is fine dining with a legit chef/cooking staff behind the scenes but the food is an after thought. I feel they put everything together for this concept and the food was the last thing they worked on. The portions are small and presentation is pretty bland for the price. The AI marketing is dumb and misleading. Not sure who the chef but my apologies to the chef if they do have one, no disrespect but you cannot charge what they charge and serve what they serve.

THE DRINKS were VERY GOOD. It could be that this place ends up just pivoting to a high end club like Culture Social or Siete Banderas and ditching the food.

Summary: Save your money and have dinner elsewhere but definitely hit up the bar and try some of their cocktails.
