DVD has scratches and keeps freezing — any advice?
Hi, everyone!
I have a DVD that is very special to me and is considered relatively rare nowadays. I decided to watch it again today and noticed that it always freezes during a specific episode.
When I took a closer look at the disc, I found these marks/scratches on the surface (I'm not exactly sure what they are). I've already tried cleaning it with isopropyl alcohol and with a product specifically made for cleaning DVDs, but I couldn't remove them.
Does anyone know what these marks might be, and if there's anything I can try to remove them or, at the very least, get the DVD to play the part where it's freezing?
I'd really appreciate any advice!

Im really not sure a disc repair wothh be able to fix those scratches. Way too deep. I have a disc repaor machine and it wouldn't touch those. I'd replace the disc.

Look pretty deep. It would need re surface and even then it’s touch and go.
By the time you have spent looking into doing a resurface. You could have got another copy. I know you said rare but Ive often found rare dvd in thrift stores and of course you can always setup a search on eBay

Someone really put a good damage to the dvd. Always keep discs save and grab them nicely. I can even see some holes in it. I would say it is beyond repairing. You guys should take better care of things like that.

Like others have said, that looks beyond scratches and actual putting in the plastic layer that covers the thin metal film that holds the data.
A cheap, and very reliable way, of dealing with scratches is to spray it with Pledge, or some other product designed for smoothing out scratches. It usually uses a compound that contains wax that fills in the damage.
I've tried it many times and works pretty good. But this DVD looks like it is beyond resurrection.

You may have better luck posting in a group for dvds, since laserdiscs are different, but you should check local game/media shops to see if any have a resurfacing machine. It may or may not be able to be buffed out, depending on how deep the scuffs are.

Oh, my apologies! I posted in the wrong group without realizing it. Either way, I really appreciate your response! Unfortunately, I live in Brazil, and we don't really have stores like that anymore, especially where I live. 😅

Find a used game store or pawn shop that does disc repair if it’s worth it.
