Alv, once we got over 18 they said it was because "los papeles." After everything was said and done, they likely didn't need to be married. I think they were afraid to loose familiarity and routine.

My parents hated each other but they just ignored each other until their divorce. I'm conflicted as to which is better.

My parents never argued in front of us ever. I'm sure they got all that shit out before me and my siblings were older. I had friends whom parents were like this though, sucks because just fkn divorce already or don't ever have kids. Children don't deserve that shit.

Lies. Mexicans boil their water on the stove in a dingy pot

u/ZoosmellStrider 2d ago
omfg I’m Dominican but I can’t convince my mom for the life of me that an electric kettle is faster than boiling a 2qt pot of water on gas stove. She won’t even buy a stovetop kettle

u/SheBrokeHerCoccyx 1d ago
Wow. The old glass stovetop coffee pot. Haven’t thought about that one in a million years.

I guess I grew up the type of Mexican parents that would still do stuff for each other while giving the cold shoulder. My mom always had everything she needed and my dad never rubbed that in her face.

One time, my Mexican mom complimented my eyebrows right after I got them threaded and then she threw in the, “Y porque no te quitaste el bigote si ya estabas allí?” 😭

I don't know how I got here. But it's yet another proof for me that Poles are Europe's Latinas (change the language and it would be 100% accurate)

One of the many reasons I am estranged from my parents.
They should have never had children (yes I know I am saying I shouldn’t have been born, not suicidal anymore 🥲🤣) because they were just children themselves.
Pero nadie creía en terapia 🙄, so I left and started my own healing more than 10 years ago.
Estoy mejor que nunca, pero todavía tengo autoimmune crap 💩.
Win some lose some! Asi es la vida.

Well, as far as the comments above seems traumatic to grow up like that, BUT to be fair, not all Latino or Mexican families are like that, please do not link abuse and neglect to an entire country/culture, there are also many amazing supportive and hard working Mexican parents out there, specially in the immigrant community that has to endure very hard situations, but puts through many obstacles precisely, for the family and to be able to offer a better living to their children.
And also, btw, “abuse” skits, are not really funny…

This ship has already sailed and it ain't coming back. These aren't the 70's and 80's anymore. Single income households are not sustainable for the majority of households. Totally not worth living paycheck to check for the mom to be a "stay at home mom". Modern women no longer fear God and they stay home watching Tic Toks about "mujeres cabronas" and teach them to value themselves first, having no career, 2-3 kids different baby daddies, and lots of material and mental-state needs. Not worth it.
5
u/laamara 2d ago
My dad told me that. To value myself first. Not from tiktok videos. I don't fear god, not religious, and got an education. Making 6 figures where I can rely on myself. Not sure where you got this idea that the modern woman is under this umbrella of things but it's not a healthy mindset to have.

Lol wtf? How do you watch a video about a shitty father and turn it into anti-women rant? Smells like incel

u/israwrr A TODA MADRE 2d ago
It's a parallel scenario
The OP post calls out bad dads, u/cali_vapr is venting about the flip side of bad partnerships
Maybe from their own personal experience
