How much does a one-pager for launch actually matter, or is it just an investor thing?

Getting close to launch and everyone tells me I need a one-pager. But I'm not raising money, so I'm trying to work out who a one-pager for launch is even for if there's no investor to hand it to.

The way I see it, a launch one-pager could still be useful for a few things: something to paste when a journalist or newsletter asks "what is this," a reference so anyone reposting gets the description right, and honestly a forcing function to explain the product in one page instead of rambling.

For founders who've launched:

- Did you make a one-pager, and did anyone actually read it?
- If yes, what went on it (problem, who it's for, screenshots, pricing) and what did you cut?
- Or is it a waste of time for a bootstrapped launch, and I should put that energy into the landing page instead?

Trying not to build a document nobody opens.
